I read 200 books a year, so count me in a group.
Guys unfortunately that's not how it works 😭 you might not be in the same teams as your friends and that's bc we look at the number of books you read each year to create balanced teams and so that it's fair for everyone :)
Friendly reminder to keep the group rules in mind when making a comment, paying special attention to rule #1. There are a lot of new members and mods are here to clarify the way this challenge works. Please be mindful and considerate of what you post in the group 😊

I'm currently at 185 books read this year but I will be on holiday the first two weeks of October. I'm very excited to tour the Republic of Georgia and not sure of how much reading will get done.

I have been averaging 10+ books/month but did have some slump-y months earlier in the year (fingers crossed won't happen again).

Thank you! ❤️
Guys I may or may not have forgotten to include the prompts for you (hehe honest mistake) but I've updated that now (see the top of the thread)!!

I would like to be on a team please! In the past I have averaged about 120 a year, but I have already blown past that this year so use your best judgment on where to put me :)

Hi, sorry for not answering the message you sent sooner I wasn't checking GR.
Fright night is one of our seasonal games, at the beginning of the year we had Spring fling. So these exact games happen twice a year, and every year they switch between Spring Fling/Fright Night and Summer Days/Winter wars (next year's seasonal games).
We have other challenges in the group, although this year we were late with the quarterly ones. And of course there's the annual challenge. Both of these are less strict with time and books you read.

k, thanks! <3

1. classic horror novel - Would original Stephen King count (i.e. ’Salem’s Lot specifically) or truly classic like Frankenstein, Portrait of Dorian Gray, etc.?
2. with a skull on the cover - Does it have to be a human skull or would an animal/creature skull work (i.e. The Paleontologist)?
3. with blood and or bone in the title - Can they be combined words (i.e. Bonedust or Half-Blood or Bloody) or do they have to be standalone?
4. fairytale retelling - Does it only have to be fairytales (i.e. Cinderella) or do myths/legends from other countries work (i.e. Legendborn/Arthurian legend or The Night Ends With Fire/Mulan)?
hey so:
1. Originally I meant just the actual classics (Shirley Jackson Edgar Allan Poe etc) but after much thought I think any more "modern" classics would count so think Stephen King/ H.P Lovecraft/ Richard Matheson etc (for anyone else: if in doubt about this category ask before picking out a book bc not all modern horror books are classics x)
2. Any skull counts for this
3. Combined words are fine
4. Legends and myths definitely count here!

Thank you Hafs!

1. Would Interview with the Vampire count for the classic horror novel pompt?
2. Regarding the various "colour"-prompts, would something like this

3. For "Read a book with blood and or bone in the title" does the word need to be in English or would a translation be accepted? For example if the title included the German word "Blut" which translates into "blood"
Sorry if I'm making this too complicated 😅 Thank you for all the work you put into organizing these challenges!

HOW TO JOIN
1. Reply to this thread with "I want to participate in a group" or "I want to participate by myself," and the number of books you read/listen to each year (this isn't to judge your reading habits but to attempt to create balanced teams).
2. The deadline to join a team is September 25th.
3. Anyone can join Fright Night as long as the competition lasts, but after September 25th all newcomers will be soloists.
RULES
✧ Members will be broken out into up to 3-5 separate teams (or go solo) before the start date (October 1st). You will work together to complete a series of tasks together and complete as many of them as you wish.
✧ Books must be read and reviewed during October 1st through November 30th. Any books or audiobooks started before October 1st or finished after November 30th will not count.
✧ If you read an Audiobook version of a book convert the hours to pages using this site: https://alamantus.itch.io/time-to-page or use the print equivalent on Goodreads.
✧ Graphic/Manga novels are accepted but will only count for half of the listed page count
✧ You must post at least 3 status updates OR a review. It doesn't have to be super detailed but try to not just say "this was good" for the book to count.
✧ For prompts: if it doesn't fit, it doesn't fit, and it will not count.
✧ Minimum Lengths:
• Books: 150 pages
• Graphic Novels: 200 pages (halved=100 pages)
• Audiobooks: 150 pages (use GR print equivalent length)
POINT SYSTEM
+1 point for every book that has been read and reviewed that correlates with a prompt
+2 points for participating in a buddy read (must take place in the group)
+3 for one completed category
+4 points for reading/participating in a group read (must take place in the group)
+5 points for every 1,000 pages read
Note: Mods keep track of all points in a shared Google Sheets spread to keep everything as organized as possible.
Note 2: You must actively participate in a buddy or group read for the points to count. Lack of participation means no points!
