This is the first book I ever read by this author, maybe around 1990. At the time, I thought his prose deserved to be read aloud, but there were no audiobooks of his work yet. Now it has been long enough that I had forgotten large parts of the plot, so it was like a new book.

This author should be much better known, and those millions of fans of GOT should appreciate the brilliant job Kay does with historical eras and just a touch of magic. This one has feuds, war, priestesses, troubadours, and more.Like all his books, it is based on a real historical era, in this case the Troubadour era in Southern France. It isn't tagged Sad and but it does have many tragic elements.

Joanne (joabroda1) | 12584 comments I am now completed with his library and have plans to go back and read them all-I loved this one too, his description of the area had me feeling as though I was walking through the fields of France.

Yes, the singing was great!

Theresa | 15559 comments This may be my favorite by this author, though I still have a few to read. But this discussion of the audio has me thinking I should get it and have it on Audible for when I have an upcoming road trip. I've thought about re-reading it - and it would be a great travel audio.
