Daphne (daph_reads) | 24 comments It was a bright, sunny day, but Laurent sulked into the Big House. Some young camper had snitched and told the adults about the gambling ring she had started to make a few dollars on the side. $5 entrance fee, plus the dealer(her) won blackjack quite often. Laurent had thought her father would be more understanding, but it seemed like he was disappointed when he called her down. She sighed, sitting down on the couch outside the office door.

Becca {Book Enthusiast} (littlesweets313) | 77 comments Ezra walked out of the office, shuffling the papers between his hands into a neat stack. The lack of direction in this camp was starting to get on his nerves. Hands off wasn't his favoured approach to rebuilding the snack shack that was recently burned down.
He clutched his plans tighter, his jaw tightening when he noticed the girl sulking in the corner. He paused in the hallway, she was frowning.
"Are you okay?" He asked after a beat. She didn't look particularly in need of help but it was always best to ask.

Daphne (daph_reads) | 24 comments Laurent looked up, not noticing the guy when she walked in. But to be fair, she wasn't in the best headspace nor aware of her surroundings. Her thoughts were filled with wondering what Dionysus would say. How mad he would be. She was focused on the punishment possibilities. Cleaning up camp, being unable to visit her mother, her bunk getting ransacked. Laurent shuddered, thinking about what they might find in the hole covered by a poster.
She gave the guy a once-over. His eyes were a startling shade of grey. "I am absolutely fantastic," Laurent said, fixing her posture. "Never been better." She shot him a sarcastic smile.

Becca {Book Enthusiast} (littlesweets313) | 77 comments Ezra raises a brow. His frustration with the rebuilding was completely forgotten as he assessed the girl in a new light. Her purple hair was striking against her pale skin but for once in his life the colour purple didn't get on his nerves.
"Uh huh, next you'll be trying to convince me the world is flat and we all live in the matrix." He said with a small chuckle. "I'm Ezra."
He extended a hand out of habit but quickly regretted the decision as he took in her close off posture. But it wasn't like he could take the hand back now, that was even worse.

message 6: by Daphne (last edited Nov 21, 2024 12:58PM) (new)

Daphne (daph_reads) | 24 comments Laurent visibly relaxed. Talking to people was a good way to calm down nerves. Better than cigarettes, but she's been trying to break that habit. The ones in America were worse than the ones back home. She gasped. "Wait, you mean we don't live in the Matrix?" Even in her stressed out state, Laurent could appreciate a good late '90's action film reference.
"I'm Laurent," she said, accepting his handshake. She smiled, genuinely. He seemed familiar to her, she'd probably just saw him around camp. But after being here so long, the faces have just blended together.

Becca {Book Enthusiast} (littlesweets313) | 77 comments ((im so sorry for going MIA, literally swamped with studying right now. My responses are gonna be super far apart for like the next week and a half but then I'm back to being able to respond every day))

Ezra's shoulders dropped and he chuckled at her joke. He looked down at their attached hands and noticed the purple dye on her fingers. His lips pinched as he attempted to guess their origin.
"On a scale of one to ten how obsessed are you with the colour purple?" He asked as he tilted his head. His nose scrunched as he looked between Laurent's hair and hands.
He had always disliked the colour. If he was being honest her hands were giving him flashbacks to a particularly traumatic event.

message 8: by Daphne (new)

Daphne (daph_reads) | 24 comments ((It's completely fine, I get it.))

Laurent laughed. Out of all the questions he could have asked, this was the one he'd gone with? Not that it's a bad question. In fact, it's one with the simplest answer. Memories flashed through her head of the countless nights playing card games and drinking grape juice in her younger years with her mother. As she got older, the more complicated the games got and the stronger the drinks became.
"I wouldn't say obsessed, that implies the love is unhealthy. But, on a scale of one to ten for how much I like the color purple, I'd have to say seven,” Laurent answered.
His body language when asking wasn't lost on her. She's been around people enough to know some things were unsaid. It wasn't like her to push, so she let it be.

Becca {Book Enthusiast} (littlesweets313) | 77 comments Ezra's lips tipped up at her response. He had neer been much of a chatty person but her words had him hooked. There was something about her playful and nonchalant behavior that invited him to continue the conversation.
"I'm surprised you didn't say ten. What's your favourite colour then?" He asked. They were dumb questions but he just wanted to keep talking with her. The girl who's whole body shook with laughter. The girl with eyes that betrayed a calculating intelligence she hid beneath her humour. Right before she spoke he watched as she internally calculated thoughts and memories.
Okay now he was starting to sound creepy. Maybe he was starting to like talking to this girl to much. Ezra had always been on board with sow and steady wins the race. The speed at which he was becoming fascinated with her alarmed him.

Owlisaloafofbreb ~DUCK VIBES~ | 1247 comments Jin sat quietly on a weathered wooden chair, positioned under the dappled shade of a sprawling oak tree. Sunlight filtered through the leaves, casting playful patterns of light and shadow on the ground around him. A book rested comfortably in his hands, its pages slightly worn from use. He cherished these rare moments of solitude—time that felt like a precious gift, snatched away from the demands of his busy life. As he flipped the page, he let out a soft sigh, a mix of contentment and longing. The words on the page flowed through his mind like a gentle stream, but he knew he had to cherish this fleeting tranquility, as he rarely found time to unwind and indulge in his love of reading.

Owlisaloafofbreb ~DUCK VIBES~ | 1247 comments Jin buried himself in the pages of his book, the words blurring together as he tried to escape the world around him. His brow furrowed, a clear indicator of his foul mood, and he hoped that his concentration would deter anyone from approaching. Despite his best efforts to shield himself with the story, the chatter and laughter of his campmates filled the air, incessantly nagging at his focus. A few of them glanced his way, recognizing the tension that hung about him, yet curiosity often proved stronger than caution. They still wandered closer, eager to intrude on his solitude, oblivious to the storm brewing beneath his calm facade.

Owlisaloafofbreb ~DUCK VIBES~ | 1247 comments He shot a fierce glare at one of the kids nearby, the irritation radiating from him as he abruptly closed his book with a decisive thud. “Get the hell away from me,” he spat, his voice low but charged with a palpable intensity. He remained seated in the chair, arms crossed, his body language conveying a mix of frustration and defiance. As his attention shifted, he briefly glanced toward the source of the music that filled the air, catching sight of Robin in the distance. “Hmph...” he muttered, a hint of curiosity breaking through his annoyance.

Owlisaloafofbreb ~DUCK VIBES~ | 1247 comments He shut his eyes, sighing. The kid that he screamed at ran away. ``That's their fault`` He said to himself, chuckling softly. He kept his eyes shut, yawning slightly.

Owlisaloafofbreb ~DUCK VIBES~ | 1247 comments He let out a weary sigh, his shoulders drooping as he leaned back in his chair. Too exhausted to bother opening his eyes again, he simply let them rest closed. “I don’t know what their problem is,” he muttered, a hint of frustration creeping into his voice. As he spoke, he playfully stuck out his tongue, a sign of his annoyance mingled with a touch of childish defiance.

Owlisaloafofbreb ~DUCK VIBES~ | 1247 comments “Being nice doesn’t lead to real progress,” he remarked, pushing himself up from the chair with a slow, deliberate motion. His eyes glinted with a hint of mischief as he added, “But anger? Now that really gets things done.” He let out a soft chuckle.

Owlisaloafofbreb ~DUCK VIBES~ | 1247 comments Jin smiled softly, a hint of laughter still in his voice. "Based on my experiences, I would say it really does," he remarked thoughtfully. "But let me ask you this—when has showing kindness actually helped anyone achieve their goals or find success?"

Owlisaloafofbreb ~DUCK VIBES~ | 1247 comments "Hm...? That's an interesting ring you have there," he said softly, his voice trailing off as he caught sight of her anxiously twisting the delicate band around her finger. The way she fidgeted with it suggested it held some significance for her, and he couldn't help but feel curious about its story.

Owlisaloafofbreb ~DUCK VIBES~ | 1247 comments Jin leaned closer, examining the shimmering ring that caught the light just right, creating a dance of reflections. His brow furrowed slightly as he turned it in his fingers. "What’s the story behind this ring?" he asked, his voice laced with curiosity. “It’s really quite exquisite, isn’t it? The craftsmanship is impressive.”

Owlisaloafofbreb ~DUCK VIBES~ | 1247 comments "Who’s your godly parent?" Jin asked, a playful grin spreading across his face as he leaned back against the cool stone wall. The warm sunlight seemed to highlight the excitement in his eyes. "Mine’s Apollo," he continued, his voice filled with pride as he spoke about his divine connection, the words rolling off his tongue like a well-rehearsed melody.

Owlisaloafofbreb ~DUCK VIBES~ | 1247 comments Jin smiled thoughtfully as he recalled his time spent in the cabin. “It’s been about five years now, I believe,” he said, his eyes reflecting a mix of nostalgia and amusement. “But to be honest, I don’t really spend that much time there. Life seems to keep pulling me in different directions, so the cabin mostly serves as a quiet retreat I visit occasionally.”

Owlisaloafofbreb ~DUCK VIBES~ | 1247 comments "It's just fine, honestly. Most people tend to overlook me, going about their own business without a second glance. The only time I seem to draw attention is when I raise my voice, which catches them off guard and makes them pay attention for a moment."

Owlisaloafofbreb ~DUCK VIBES~ | 1247 comments "I'm not really a talkative person either," Jin replied with a slight nod, his eyes reflecting a sense of understanding. He seemed to appreciate the quiet moments, comfortable in the silence that settled between them.

Owlisaloafofbreb ~DUCK VIBES~ | 1247 comments “Eh, it’s alright,” Jin replied with a slight yawn, stretching his arms overhead as he settled back against the wall. He glanced around the room, searching for inspiration. “Well—uh—I’m not really sure what to talk about now,” he added, a hint of uncertainty in his voice. He paused for a moment, tapping his fingers on the wall as he contemplated his next words.

Owlisaloafofbreb ~DUCK VIBES~ | 1247 comments "That's fine," Jin replied with a relaxed smile, stifling a yawn that escaped as he stretched his arms above his head. "I'll see you at dinner then," he added, his voice filled with warmth as he glanced at the clock, mentally noting the time they had agreed upon.

Owlisaloafofbreb ~DUCK VIBES~ | 1247 comments "Just call me Jin," he said, pushing himself away from the wall where he had been leaning casually. As he straightened up, there was a hint of a smile on his face, making the introduction feel warm and approachable.

Owlisaloafofbreb ~DUCK VIBES~ | 1247 comments He nodded thoughtfully, his mind weighing the implications of what he had just heard. Robin, hm... The name lingered in his thoughts as he turned away from the imposing structure of the Big House.

skyler_st4rz | 268 comments After a very unfortunate encounter after capture the flag, Alpo was sat on one of the couches in the Big House. He wouldn't of gotten in trouble if the person hadn't waited to instigate him until after the game. If only they fought him during and not after, he wouldn't be wasting away in the Big House. Fights are fine during capture the flag! Just not after. He won the fight though, of course he won. Never pick a fight with a Nike kid.

"Gods this sucks.." Alpo groans, resting his face in his hands as he looks towards the ground. He would rather be cleaning the Pegasus stables than be in here. He couldn't remember how long he's been waiting for Chiron and Mr. D to work out his punishment.

"Chiron, I really didn't mean to! I was just having a rough day and I put my emotions onto him--" The girl said defensively as she walked backwards from the big house. She seemed genuinely concerned for the boy on the other side of the walls, who she accidently transferred her stress too while bumping into him. Despite being at camp for a little over a year, her powers were still uncontrollable and had a mind of their own. Even the slightest touch could inflict pain on someone.

Her shoulders drooped and her expression fell flat as she realized another boy was out here, his face burrowed in his hands. She suddenly felt embarrassed, wanting to shrink into the shadows.

message 31: by skyler_st4rz (new)

skyler_st4rz | 268 comments Alpo glances up from the ground when he hears another voice, as well as a mention of Chiron. He perks up slightly, glancing around to see if Chiron was coming out. Nope, still no sign of him. He looks at the girl that walked out, wondering what she was talking about. He was curious, to say the least. His brows furrow as he slumps in his seat, trying to figure out which godly parent gives the power to put your emotions on somebody.

"I don't mean to pry," Alpo starts, resting his hands on his knees as he leans forward, "But what do you mean put your emotions onto someone?" He couldn't help but ask, the curiosity was killing him.

Anastasia looked over again, noticing how he perked up when Chiron was mentioned. "No, uh, you're not prying at all." She seemed dumbfounded. Nobody had particularly asked about her powers before.

"Well, my dad, Algos, he's the god of pain. Really a super minor god, hardly anyone knows him..." She realized she was rambling now, the same embarrassed tint returning to her cheeks. "He gave me the gift of transferring emotions. Literally passing my pain or happiness, even, on to someone else."

message 33: by skyler_st4rz (new)

skyler_st4rz | 268 comments Alpo listens like he had nothing better to do. Well, because he didn't have anything better to do. He was interested, and that was easy to see because it was plastered across his face. Like he was dying to know more, just anything that would get rid of the painful silence.

"Well, you're right when you say hardly anyone knows him. Uh, no offense." Alpo gives a smile, trying to relax in his seat. Yet, he felt strangely giddy over the fact he had someone to talk to while he waited. "I mean, it sounds like a cool power. Having a friend that's in the dumps and you can just.. pass your happiness to them. It's a good battle strategy too.." Alpo trails off, his mind racing with ideas of how he could use that power in a fight.

"Like, imagine, you're wounded on the battle field, and you can just.. pass your agony to an enemy by bumping in to them! Do you have any idea how useful that would be?" A smile breaks out across Alpo's face as he looks at Anastasia.

Anastasia's anxiety depleted at the smile forming on his face. "None taken," she said, her lips turning up in return. The way the boy talked... he brought such ease over her. She couldn't help but laugh at his rhetorical remarks.

"Yeah, yeah, you're right! They won't even know what hit them," she jokes back. Realizing now, Alpo looked beat up from whatever had caused him to be at the Big House. "Um, can I ask why you're here?"

message 35: by skyler_st4rz (new)

skyler_st4rz | 268 comments Alpo noticed that the girl seemed to be in a better mood that she was in earlier. He's glad he helped, even if it wasn't directly. At the mention of why he was in here, he sighs, leaning back in the couch. "I got into a fight. Some kid.. guess he got mad during capture the flag or something. Waited until it ended to start a fight, just so I would get in trouble," he sounded exhausted now that they had changed topics as to why he was in here.

"So now, I'm just waiting on Chiron and Mr. D to work out my punishment. And since you just came out, I'm assuming they haven't talked yet," Alpo pauses, thinking some more. "Also assuming I'll have to wait out here even longer."

The thought of spending more time in a silent room, aside from the sound of the clock ticking, made him want to break down. He was tired of waiting, it wasn't something he did all too well.

Anastasia nodded along, listening to the boy. "It was just self-defense, I'm sure." She walked over to him, taking a seat on the Adirondack chairs.

"I'll keep you company," she said, which sounded like an offer but really, the boy looked tired. Whether that was from the fight, or waiting for his punishment, or even just talking about the events-- Well, Anastasia knew pain and emotions. "Can I try something?" She asked. "It's not painful, but um... Since we were talking about my powers and all that."

message 37: by skyler_st4rz (new)

skyler_st4rz | 268 comments "Self-defense, yeah. I guess it counts as that." Alpo leans his head back against the chair, staring at the ceiling. At the mention of the her keeping him company, he looks over, the corners of his lips twitching up into a smile.

Alpo sits up a little straighter, curious what the girl wanted to try. It must be about her powers. "Sure, go ahead," he seemed curious. If his guess was right and the girl was going to use her powers on him, what would it feel like? Would he even notice, or would it be like drinking an energy drink? Or well, whatever emotion she was feeling, drink.

Anastasia noticed the smile on his lips. Huh, she thought to herself, her own lips turning up. She was glad to see him smiling, granted a few moments ago he appeared stressed.

"I'm Anastasia, by the way. Annie for short, if you want." Anastasia reached over, placing her hand on his forearm. "Don't freakout," she warned him, taking a deep breath. She thought about his pain, how he was feeling, and pulled it all away. You could literally see gold flowing out of him like a river. It shimmered away into a thin mist. Similar to a weight off his shoulders, Alpo would be care free for... Well, the rest of the day. She was still working on that.

"How do you feel?" She asked, a sheepish expression on her face.

skyler_st4rz | 268 comments "Nice to meet you, Annie. I'm Alpo." He watched Anastasia carefully, curious as to how this would work. He doesn't seem why he would freak out, though. If there was a reason to freak out, that means whatever it was had to be exceptionally cool.

Alpo watches the gold flow out of him, his eyebrows raising with interest. A quizzical look finds its way on his face, before his lips turn up into a grin. This was cooler than he thought it was going to be, that's for sure. His eyes flit back and forth between Anastasia and the gold, watching as it shimmered away.

"How do I feel? Well, better than I felt before, that's for sure," Alpo sighs in content, relaxing into the chair.

She glanced up, relief washing through her. A small smile grew on her face at his reactions. "Yeah? Well, good. I wasn't sure if that was going to actually work," she said. Anastasia had prayed that it would, but it was still a 50/50 chance it could've backfired... Maybe..

"I'm kidding, by the way. But uhm, you look more relaxed, so that's a plus!" She beamed, "Now you'll just have to find a way to repay me with your powers, or something."

Anastasia herself even felt relaxed, the summer breeze sifting through the air, the smell of the campfire in the distance. Everything about it was so peaceful.

message 42: by skyler_st4rz (new)

skyler_st4rz | 268 comments "You're kidding, right, right," Alpo rolls his eyes, an almost teasing grin on his face. Obviously, he didn't believe that. Every power had to have some kind of chance of backfiring. Even his powers backfire from time to time. "And repay you with my powers? I mean, if you get into a fight or something, I could make you win?"

He's never really tried using his powers on somebody else. Usually, everything is a group effort in the camp. So if he used his powers on himself, then his team won by default. He'd never really had to use his powers on somebody else.

"I'm also joking. I'm not too sure how well that'd work," her lips turned upwards. "I'm guessing you're a child of... Nike? Nemesis?" She guessed. "I'm still trying to wrap my head around all the gods and goddesses."

She'd only been here for a year, and she could barely remember half the minor deities.

message 44: by skyler_st4rz (new)

skyler_st4rz | 268 comments "First guess is right, son of Nike. I was lucky to have met her earlier than most people in camp, so got sorted immediately," Alpo shrugs, like it was very normal to meet your godly parent so casually. Usually, half bloods don't see their parents in person much. But, having a good relationship with your kid means you're victorious as a mother, right?

"And not knowing all the gods and goddesses is valid. There's a ton of them, there's a god for everything in the world honestly."

"You've met her?" She asked in awe. Anastasia had never met her father. Granted, he was probably busy, doing whatever gods did wherever gods lived. "I had to stay in the Hermes cabin for ages..." She thought of how she slept on the floor for weeks. Thanks, Dad.

She laughed, "Right? I swear, there's a new one every week!" Thankfully, camp offered classes on Greek mythology, so Anastasia occasionally joined in and attempted to learn a thing or two.

message 46: by skyler_st4rz (new)

skyler_st4rz | 268 comments "I met her when I was.. twelve? Yeah, around twelve," Alpo struggled to remember when it was exactly, and that was clear. He had that entire day blocked out in his mind. Only good part was when he met his mom. "I haven't heard many good things about the Hermes cabin, doesn't that place smell like sweat all the time? With all the people in there, y'know?"

Alpo smiles at Anastasia's comment. He gave up on trying to memorize all of the minor gods. He really only bothered to memorize the major ones. And his mom, of course.

"Wow..." Anastasia said, "Do you guys keep in touch?" She asked, picking at the bracelets lining on her list. She always dreamt of going to a camp and making friendship bracelets with other campers. While she didn't particularly get along with them, she'd often find herself by the lake, threading the knots and beads.

"Oh, it's disgusting. Do you know how many socks I'd find by my bed? Those campers are... something." She shook her head in disbelief.

message 48: by skyler_st4rz (new)

skyler_st4rz | 268 comments "We... kind of keep in touch. We don't talk much, but she'll pop her head in with an Iris message. Usually she's too busy being a goddess and all," Alpo shrugs, not seeming too bothered by it. He was a busy guy, she was a busy god. Well, he wasn't really busy, but he did have camp work and stuff to worry about.

"I could only imagine the socks. You'd think they would be cleaner, since their dad is the god of thieves. Would a thief not want their space clean, so another person couldn't come and steal it?" He sighs, truly believing Hermes kids made absolutely no sense.

Anastasia nods along to Alpo speaking. "Well, that's great. I'm glad to hear some parents actually keep in touch with their kids," she smiled at him. While she didn't mind not having a relationship with her dad, she wished he at least reached out once in a while.

"Ugh, it was awful," she says through a grin. "One would think, but you know..." She shrugged. "My new cabin is much cleaner though. Quieter, too. Thank the gods."

message 50: by skyler_st4rz (new)

skyler_st4rz | 268 comments Alpo leans his head back against the chair, staring up at the ceiling and tracing the lines and bumps with his eyes. If only she kept in contact without some underlying reason. He looks over at Anastasia from the corner of his eye, a smile forming on his face. "I mean, it's not all good. Surprise contacts from a goddess aren't the best when monsters are around. Very booming voice."

He stretches his arms above his head, before letting them fall lazily onto his knees. "I wish my cabin was quiet. We don't have a lot of people, but it's still so loud," he shakes his head, shuddering at the thought of having to go back to the loudness before curfew. "So loud.."
