Hannah | 3301 comments I had such high hopes for this book having read a number of 5-star reviews of it recently that I felt a bit let down by it. As I was reading, I was also comparing it to other books I had previously read about Russia under Putin, which I felt were more interesting. The second part of this book was definitely better and more interesting than the first, as much of the first part of the book was taken up by Browder discussing how he wanted to make money by working in Eastern Europe and taking advantage of the situation at the end of the Cold War. Whilst the content around corruption scandals and human rights abuses was interesting, I found it disappointing that Browder did not seem to be able to see much beyond his own perspective, and the need to make money for his investors, and I did not particularly like Browder’s writing style.

Joanne (joabroda1) | 12593 comments I too was very keyed up to read this one. The story sounded so interesting. However, it ended up as a DNF for me. I think it is his writing that is not my style either, because I recall trying one of his other books and know that was also a DNF, I won't be picking anything else by him up
