I'm about halfway through the first book and I was wondering if it's necessary to have to read the novellas in the series or would I still understand the story without reading them.

i would say they aren't needed to understand the plot they just add some extra detail to how some characters are feeling at the time especially in the first 2 novellas because they are from different peoples perspective not just Juliette's but if you don't want to spend extra money they aren't needed to understand the story
someone can correct me if i am wrong because i'm only on unravel me (2nd book) and i read the novella (destroy me) in between
i listened to the audiobooks of 1,2,3 on youtube before i got the books and i understood what was going on so i should be able to
my friend told me not to waste my money on the novellas but i'm enjoying them

the novellas are actually really good, you should definitely read them, but they're mostly fill in the gaps/ other pov's like @flopsy said.

I would totally recommend the novellas! In my opinion, they helped me better understand the characters and what was going on. You don't HAVE to read them, but I would recommend it, (view spoiler)[especially if you want to see more of Kenji x Nazeera (hide spoiler)]

I read the series first and went back to read the novellas afterwards and thought they were ok but it's not a necesity to understand the story line. The only ones i liked were the ones from Kenjis perspective.

i read the series and the novellas in order, and to answer your question- no. i don’t think it’s necessary to read them, they just add a bit more to the story that i really appreciated. if you’re not planning on reading most of them, at least read the last one. it’s just really cute and a great ending to the story imo

i don’t really need the novellas tbh in my opinion.

I read the whole series and think most of the novellas are a must. They help understand the side characters as well as the overall world of the books. They are not absolutely necessary to understand the story but if you have the opportunity I highly recommend reading the novellas in between.

I think they are needed bc you get to learn about everyone’s backstory and personality

they are not necessary. anything important to the plot is addressed in the regular books, but it helps you understand all the characters much better

I read the novellas after the series, u don’t need to read it but it does add character development and all that honestly they’re pretty good. Only one I would say u have to read that I don’t count as a novella and count more as an actual book is believe me ♥️♥️
