HeatherREADS | 78 comments Hi!

My name is Heather.

I like mysteries, literary fiction, and some science fiction but I'm working on reading more widely than that. Lately, I have been reading a lot of cli-fi, even though it terrifies me.

I have a 12 year old kid and live in Western New York.

I've played uno before - I think this is the third year I have played.

I very rarely watch movies, so this is a tough question! I did just go see Wicked so I'll pick that as my favorite movie.

We have two cats: A big bushy-tailed black cat named Pippa, and an orange and tan scaredy-cat named S'mores.

https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...

I can't wait to start playing! Looking forward to meeting everyone :)

Welcome Heather!! Wicked is awesome!! I have read it 3 times, seen in on Broadway, on tour and theatre (3times) so I am a little nerdy with musicals!! Can't wait to see what you read!! Always looking for good books!! TIF

Shan ~A~ | 95 comments Some get to know you things to share in your post!

1) Shan
2) Romance is my favorite genre, but that has changed throughout the years. At one point it was mystery/thrillers which I still read
3) I think I've become pretty boring in my older age. I work from home; all of my kids are 19+ (even though we are not completely empty nesters). I read, listen to music, binge tv shows movies, join too many reading challenges.
4) I'm not a newbie to UNO
5) E.T is my favorite sci-fi movie, I remember watching as a kid and crying my eyes out. Outside of that I love classic movies (I miss TCM since we cut the cord), rom coms, comedy movies because I love to laugh. My favorite recent movie is Wicked.
6) No pets currently ~ however we are partial to cats

I feel ya - 16+ for me on kids - lots of reading all over the place, love to binge watch shows and Wicked!! - glad you are back at UNO and I am almost certain we have been on teams in the past for challenges!! Glad you are here!! ET - same - boo hooed as a kid!!

message 26: by Shan ~A~ (new)

Shan ~A~ | 95 comments Shan ~A~ wrote: "I claimed a Wild Draw 4 with The Bodyguard by Katherine Center for Yellow 8 ~ CLN"

Should I move this from Wild Draw 4. I thought someone had already claimed the Yellow 8, which is why I put my book in for Wild draw 4 because I thought it had to be a separate book.

I have to be honest and say in the past I just read and put my books on the SS without paying attention to the special and their meaning as much, so I could be misunderstanding how Wild Draw 4 works.

message 27: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany Martin (tiffany_martin) | 125 comments My understanding is it is a colored card - maybe I mixed it and Draw 2 - I will follow up and let you know - we have 2 Yellow 8 - feel free to read whatever and we can plug it in as needed as we go!! I will get back on this draw 4 - good to catch it now not in later on!!

Tiffany Martin (tiffany_martin) | 125 comments Wicked The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West (The Wicked Years, #1) by Gregory Maguire Please mark all the options for your book in case we need to use it somewhere else - like Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West
So I would mark - under 8 & 4 I would mark CLN - Elphaba/ Fiyero, 6 - place - Shiz and 0 stand alone etc - this way we have as many options as possible!! Thanks a million - let me know if you have any questions or suggestions!! Tif

Not photographs, I take objects and coat them with different kinds of photosensitive chemicals. The chemicals determine the color of the art. I then place other objects on top of the coated item and expose it to the Arizona sun. Then it goes back into the darkroom for processing. Right now I'm using a lot of glass.

That's awesome! My kid is really into musical theater too, so I get a lot of second-hand knowledge about different musicals. Lately it's been Newsies. But I think my favorite musical that I've seen is Six. Loved, loved, loved it!! I have not actually read Wicked but I remember hearing good things about the book, way back when it came out. I have to ask - what was the best: the book, the musical, or the movie?

Hi Gustaf!
Thanks for the welcome! My kid loves the Sims also! I like it too, but haven't played for a while. How old is your dog? High energy little one, or mellowed wise dog? I confess, I had to look up pictures of a whippet since I'm not really familiar with the breed, and the pictures of whippet puppies were adorable. Such an elegant looking dog.

I had to look at my 2024 reads...
Classics - The Murder of Roger Ackroyd (Hercule Poirot, #4) by Agatha Christie
New Release - Only If You're Lucky by Stacy Willingham
Series - Deputy Donut by Ginger Bolton Boston Scream Murder (Deputy Donut Mystery, #4) by Ginger Bolton

How have I not heard of We are Watching? There are 79 people ahead of me on the hold list at my library?

megan | 268 comments Hi everyone, I'm megan. My favorite genre is literary fiction, but love the thriller/mystery/suspense books from Kindle Unlimited.
Fun facts: My new years resolution is to read more non-fiction.
I went to Space Camp, which lead to engineering school. Now I'm one of those lucky kids who gets to do what they wanted when asked as a kid.
This is my 4th or 5th UNO
My favorite sci-fi movie is Contact.
I have a pit bull named Eleanor and a 17yo cat who was supposed to die last spring.

We also have Yellow 4 available if you have something that will fit. I'm not picky, but I like NF about historical events and people the most. Especially if it's a topic we didn't learn in school.

Melissa Watson | 7 comments Hi guys. I am Melissa. This is my first time playing UNO. I signed on a few days ago to check in and got distracting trying to figure out what books I could use.
My favorite genres lately have tended towards magical realism, retellings, contemporary romance and psychological suspense.
I have three boys, 11, 9 and 5. They keep me busy.
The Fifth Element is one of my favorite sci-fi movies.
We lost our dog last February and our cat this past Christmas. Currently we are pet less, but I'm working on it. ;)
Quick question about the categories, if I am working on a yellow 4 do I choose a book that fits the number and cover color or just the number would suffice?

message 41: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany Martin (tiffany_martin) | 125 comments I am so glad you are here!! 3 boys - what fun!!!

So we have certain colored cards that deal are specific color and hit the category. We also have cards that are not related to the color but just the # - so either way works - we still need Yellow #4 so it is yours if you want it - you can place it on the spreadsheet!! So glad you are here!! Our team is complete and here we go- lets get to reading - well wait until Saturday to begin for this challenge. I am finishing up a couple this week and can't wait to start UNO!! See y'all!!

It does need to be one or the other - so I threw it under the Yellow 8 - We can always move it if needed. The draw 2 lets you get 2 for 1 so that was my mistake!!

Thanks! No idea we had a spreadsheet. I was going off the colorful things that caught my eye in message 6. Should probably do more than just skim.

message 48: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany Martin (tiffany_martin) | 125 comments No problem - it's a lot of information - I tried to put it all in one place for reference through out the game - when you find a book that you aren't sure will fit a color - there is a place to check it etc. Hope this helps!! Happy Reading

message 49: by Faith (new)

Faith | 124 comments Hi Team! Looking for an audio book recommendation. I've DNFd 3 books this week because I didn't like the narrator. Last time I asked this question Julia Whelan was recommended, but I've listen to everything that she has produced. :) Thanks!

message 50: by HeatherREADS (new)

HeatherREADS | 78 comments Hi Faith!

I know I sound like a broken record, but We Are Watching by Alison Gaylin was great. Gripping and engaging, lots of twists and turns. Sometimes the narrators bug me to, but I didn’t not that for this audiobook.

Black in Blues: How a Color Tells the Story of My People by Imani Perry was fantastic. Nonfiction read by the author, it connects Black/African-American history of all sorts to the color blue. It was really informative and I enjoyed Perry as the narrator.

What Happened to Ruthie Ramirez by Claire Jimenez was good also. It’s a little bit older, from 2023, but the plot really drew me in and I quickly became invested in the characters.

Hope you can find something you like to listen to!

Heather
