What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

Help me remember the title of a novel. It is about a woman who goes to a new town to investigate a series of missing people. She may have been a detective or maybe an author? She stays in a cabin. But there was something weird about it when she arrived. She befriends a local bartender who helps her.
Spoiler: she discovers the killer has been living in an abandoned place through the woods near her cabin, his chilhood home. She finds the bodies of those he has killed preserved and set up in various scenes in the house.
I read this book sometime between 2021-2023.
