carmen reads | 1 comments I mainly read thriller and romance books and have also started with dark romance but now I am also very curious about fantasy books. I see a lot of ACOTAR and The empyrean. What do you recommend to start with fantasy?

I was really curious because of tiktok, I didn't read in general and I started with ACOTAR but it is an ongoing series and there's 4 books and 1 novella.

Also Fourth Wing, ongoing but it's 3 books at moment.

I'd start with either of these ☺️☺️

Helena T. S. | 15 comments I think books like Divine rivals, Once upon a broken heart and The Crimson Moth are good places to start as they are not that fantasy heavy or long series so you can get to know the genre before deciding if it's for you. But ACOTAR is amazing and it was that one that made me obsessed with reading!

Beth :) (booksbeth) | 276 comments I would say cruel prince is a great beginner fantasy trilogy! the books aren't too long. the politics are fun but not too complicated and there's a really great enemies (actual enemies) to lovers subplot across the 3 books.
Raybearer is also a great beginner fantasy duology! there's also a cute romance subplot. books aren't too long or difficult to follow.

Aiden | 58 comments I think Graceling by Kristin Cashore is a good starting point

kitkat (inked-pages) | 196 comments my first fantasy was powerless and i read acotar next. i think all of the ones people recommended above are good for starting romantasy. if you would like to read ACOTAR though, i’d say go for it because it’s a good representation of the romantasy genre.

Malissa (malissa1578) | 54 comments Fantasy itself is not romantasy, which is more romance geared than fantasy.

Start with Travis Baldree's Bookshops & Bonedust and then Legends & lattes, maybe Shadow and Bone, the inheritance cycle, steelheart, and actually the harry potter is a good one to start. These are all pretty easy to read and go by pretty quickly.

If you are looking for romantasy... Taming Demons for Beginners, The very secret society of irregular witches, assistant to the villian, stone-cold fox, crescent city and ACOTAR.

Avery (thanos version) | 70 comments Divine rivals is a great beginner fantasy bc it’s mainly romance but it also interprets fantasy about gods and such. Also maybe actor because it’s easy to understand and also a fun read.💗

SObooks | 482 comments I think powerless because it not to heavy on the world and it easy to understand

message 16: by Sanpaku (new)

Sanpaku | 57 comments If you are looking for actual fantasy, then Harry Potter.
The Empyrean is pretty hardcore, I wouldn't recommend it for a beginner.
ACOTAR is good if you wanna read a romantasy.
Some recommended the cruel prince... I'd recommend you to first watch/read Spiderwick, by the same author. She has a specific type of fantasy. It's a good rec, imho.
If you wanna start with something slightly more mature, I'd recommend the name of the wind by patrick rothfuss.

Baruj E. Cohen | 5 comments I think that Earth Sea Cycle is a good place to start into fantasy. The Night Circus, Storm Front, and Good Omens (very humorous fantasy book)

Liesel | 40 comments I don't read fantasy very often but I recently read A Darker Shade of Magic and liked it!

If you haven't read Harry potter then go for it!

Other than that: Six of Crows!

or What the River Knows

message 20: by Ann (new)

Ann | 25 comments acotar is definitely a good place to get into fantasy though i wouldn't recommend the empyrean series for fantasy beginners cuz even though i love that series its pretty complicated and it is a incomplete series...
and also six of crows is also really good as it doesn't have a too complicated magic system, and if u like thrillers it is also a great book as it is abt a heist
