Dean | 1 comments Hi.
I’m a social worker who has been working with the chronically mentally ill for 35 years. I wrote a novel stemming from my years of experience, and I need a developmental editor. Someone to cull down my overwriting. Below is my pitch letter.

Query for [insert agent name] - Chasing Sisyphus: A psychological thriller

Dear [agent name],

I am seeking representation for my 117,000-word, debut psychological thriller, "Chasing Sisyphus." It has the dark, brooding, and humorous sensibilities of Fight Club and pairs those with the fear-inducing, spine-tingling suspense of Silence of the Lambs.

Benjamin Prater is a psychiatrist living and working in New York City in the 1990s. Ben works for the Police as a freelance psychological evaluator and profiler as well as working in private practice.
A feared serial killer Ben had profiled years ago, who has a bizarre penchant for fingers inserted into odd places (Phil Clanden, aka The Digit Man), makes a reprisal in Ben's life as New York is once again terrorized by a spate of copycat murders. Ben is forced to dive back deep into the darkness that he thought he put behind him as he waxes philosophically about his own purpose and mortality. Plagued by his existential angst predicated upon losses around death and dying, a never-ending session schedule, and a blossoming alcohol problem, he helps his clients come to grips with their issues as he loses his grip on his own.

Think, if Sigmund Freud and Hannibal Lecter ate Albert Camus.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (BA in Psychology, Masters in Social Work). I'm originally from New York and I have been working in mental health for over 30 years. The psychologies and philosophies behind the novel are real. The dark, morbid, and often deranged humor you will find in the book comes from deep within my own psyche.

Thank you for your consideration.
