The final (and longest) story in James Joyce's short story collection "The Dubliners," "The Dead" is one of Joyce's most beloved works of short fiction.
Taking place at Christmastime, the tale revolves around Gabriel Conroy and his wife Gretta, who are attending a holiday party hosted by Gabriel's elderly aunts. In typical Joycean style, this seemingly mundane setting hides many of the guests' secrets and mysteries, not the least of which is shielded by Gretta herself. When her great secret finally spills forth, it has a profound and immediate effect on Gabriel.
A powerful and elegiac examination of life, love and the very nature of the Irish identity, this volume is presented in its original and unabridged format.

Eline | 4607 comments Hi, we appreciate your patience as we work through the tremendous backlog. The websites you provided seems to be bookstores and Storytel is also not an acceptable source. We need a webpage showing the ISBN/ASIN and other book data to validate the info and if available we need it for the cover image. It should be non-bookseller site (Amazon & AbeBooks excepted), so from the publisher, library or another acceptable site: https://help.goodreads.com/s/article/..., if you have the book, we can use a scan/photo of your copy for the cover and the page with the publication information (you can upload a scan/photo of your own to the "more photos..." section of your profile (https://www.goodreads.com/photo/new) in the browser, not the app), then copy the link here and a librarian can add it. Make sure you state the source of the photo in the text and that your account settings are public (not private).
