I have done a quick search on this, but I couldn't find it mentioned.
When editing a book and specifically editing the title of the book, the sort-by title field is automatically updated, e.g. placing “, the” at the end of the title. This is great, but... when editing a non-English book or rather a book with a non-English title, the sort-by title field is first always overwritten by the changed title when saving the book.
This means having to go back into editing the book, change the sort-by title and save it again. You can't do it in one step.
For example, if change a typo in a French book title that begins with “Le” or “La”, etc., the sort-by-title is changed accordingly, even when I edited it to be correct in the same process. I have to edit the book again to fix the sort-by title if necessary.
I understand the complications of fixing this, but maybe a checkbox like “freeze sort-by title” may be an idea.
