rania (raniayay) | 4 comments Basically any book that’s set at least a 100 years back and gives off Sherlock Holmes vibes
Just solving crimes and a lil bit of thriller and maybe some romance

Why am I making this post?

Bc I just finished reading book 4 of kelley armstrongs a rip through time and can’t find anything else like it

Actually scratch that I’ll love any book that just has two people solving crimes tgt with slowburn rom

here is what is came up with:

Historical Mysteries with Duo Dynamics & Slowburn Romance

“Veronica Speedwell” series by Deanna Raybourn
Victorian-era, butterfly-hunting heroine + grumpy taxidermist partner. They solve crimes together across books with TONS of banter, slowburn, and danger. Very Holmesian but funnier.

“Lady Darby” series by Anna Lee Huber
Set in 1830s Scotland. Lady Darby is a scandal-ridden widow with artistic skill + inquiry partner Sebastian Gage. Gripping mysteries, great romantic tension, and classy vibes.

“The Agency” series by Y.S. Lee
YA but so good. A secret all-female detective agency in Victorian London. Spy girl + love interest + layered plots = ✨chef’s kiss✨

“The Charles Lenox Mysteries” by Charles Finch
More gentlemanly than gritty — Victorian detective with subtle romance threads. For fans of old-school Holmes with a heart.

🕯️ Super Sherlock Vibes (Solving Crimes + Slowburn / Vibes > Romance)

“Wrexford & Sloane” series by Andrea Penrose
Regency-era! A sharp aristocrat + fierce female illustrator tackle scientific mysteries. Witty, slowly romantic, and dark in the best ways.

“C.S. Harris’ Sebastian St. Cyr” series
Historical thrillers with a nobleman investigator. Dense mysteries, darker themes, and a very compelling central relationship.

“Murder Most Fair” by Anna Lee Huber (Book 5 in Verity Kent series)
Set post-WWI. Espionage meets detective work. Married couple with actual growth and tension. Less Holmes, more Downton Abbey but with blood.
