Hannah | 80 comments Hi. This mass paperback edition (ISBN: 9780062471628) says 370 pages on Goodreads (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...) but shows as 384 on Amazon (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...). Please update the Goodreads page to reflect 384 pages.

Thank you so much for taking care of this!

Greg | 9209 comments Hi Hannah,

WorldCat.org is the preferred source for page counts for printed books and they have this ISBN listed with 370 pages.

Do you have the book in hand? What comes after page 370? Some things we can count and others we cannot.

Included end material may include acknowledgments, afterwords, appendices, bibliographies, glossaries, indexes, notes, and suggested discussion questions.

We don’t count the pages used for advertisements, preview chapters for other books or introductory material paged using roman numerals.

Thanks.

Hannah | 80 comments I already returned the book to the library, and I only noticed the discrepancy when I was updating the status for it in Storygraph. Then I googled the ISBN to see which was right, and I usually go to Amazon because a) librarians have previously and consistently said Amazon and publishing house websites were acceptable sources too, and b) I find Worldcat really difficult to navigate (I'm probably too old to understand the internet as well as you do).

It's a work of fiction, so there weren't any appendices, bibliographies, glossaries, etc. I read it several days ago, so I can't recall if the pages counted the acknowledgements (no afterword or discussion questions).

By the way, I can understand why reference and acknowledgement pages wouldn't count, but do so few people read the afterword and discussion questions? I must be such a minority!

Anyway, what would you like to do with this? I like my page numbers to match between Goodreads and Storygraph (I'm weird like that). So it would be helpful if this version was updated, but that's obviously for my satisfaction alone. Thanks.

Greg | 9209 comments Amazon and publisher's websites are valid sources but WorldCat is the preferred source because actual librarians enter the data into the WorldCat database.

Since multiple other valid sources have 384 pages listed, I've gone ahead and updated the page count.

Next time you go to the library, maybe you could verify which is correct.

Thanks.

Hannah | 80 comments Yes, will do. Thanks for the concession. Next time I'm there, I'll also see if they can give me a lesson in Worldcat. I wish their website was easier!
