So I, maybe like your friend, was in need of an Ugly Cry book....too much to go into. Anyway, here are four contemporary books that I would highly recommend if you want those emotions you just can't hold back.

The Last Letter - Rebecca Yarros
Regretting You -Colleen Hoover
It Ends With Us - Colleen Hoover

They each have a few smexy scenes, touch on heavy life situations, none are dark-dark, but they had that "hard to breathe" emotional pull.
