R | 1 comments I’m in my mid-twenties and just now getting into reading for real. Like, I’ve read stuff before, but never on the level of my peers—barely finished any full books. Now I’m looking around like… oh, shoot, I’m behind academically, socially, financially, and emotionally. So, if you’ve got tips or book recs to help me catch up, put me on.

Marcie | 8 comments Hi! Here a few suggestions for you to look at to start you off. I would encourage you to find a local black book store to go in and browse and hopefully attend some events. This can expose you to a lot of different genres. Audiobooks are your best friend!

*Classics
James Baldwin- Go Tell It On The Mountain, If Beale Street Could Talk
Toni Morrison- Bluest Eye
Zora Neale Hurston- There Eyes Were Watching God
Richard Wright- Native Son
Disappearing Acts- Terri McMillian

*Good Romance- Kennedy Ryan- Skyland Series (3 Books)
*Mysteries and Thrillers- James Patterson (Alex Cross series- fast reads)

Sounds like you're asking for non-fiction recs. I realize I don't read many nonfiction books myself. Something I hope to incorporate more of later

I recommend :
Wake The Hidden History of Women-Led Slave Revolts by Rebecca Hall Weirdo by Tony Weaver Jr. Bone Black by bell hooks Yummy A History of Desserts by Victoria Grace Elliott NYC Basic Tips and Etiquette by Nathan W. Pyle She Memes Well by Quinta Brunson Lost in the Mountains (Survival Scout #1) by Maxwell Eaton III Marriage Be Hard 12 Conversations to Keep You Laughing, Loving, and Learning with Your Partner by Kevin Fredericks
