I am looking for clean read buddies as well. Thanks to everyone who is contributing to this conversation.

I don’t write long reviews, but I do say if they are clean or not.

I'm trying to review every book I read - and for the last year I've done that. I've started mentioning the clean factor in most reviews. It is a shame that publishers won't tell us before we buy a book, but it helps when people on Goodreads can clue us in on the various elements of a book that might be offensive. I'm also looking for friends here who care about clean literature.

I like to do the same! It's so helpful to me when reviews mention language, sexual content, etc. I have a podcast that rates books this way if anyone is interested. Cleanishreads

I always try to mention if it’s clean or not. But I do rely on Goodread readers and common sense media webpage.

I will make a better effort to note if there are offensive language and sexually explicit content in my book reviews. Subscribing to Clean-ish Reads podcast!

I finished reading the Henna Artist and the second book in the series Secret Keeper of Jaipur. Just wanted to let you know that in each book there is one rather graphic sex scene, I didn't find it particularly offensive and honestly when reading I can just skip over it but thought I would share anyway. The scene in the second book is between husband and wife by the way.

There is no place for that in a..." Agreed - those are very inaccurate in so many ways! The Amish lifestyle seems to be all about modesty and humility. And that's what makes them so beautiful! I really enjoy some by Jan Karon and Amy Clipston. I'd love to hear some of your favorites, if you want to share!

I recently stopped listening to Remarkably Bright Creatures, and I was BUMMED about it. I was really enjoying the book. It's so well-written and creative. There were a couple of F-bombs, which I don't like but might have ignored. However, the Lord's name was also used as cuss word and I'm just not okay with that at all.

I had to mark “City of Nightmares” as DNF. It’s hard to find good, clean fiction. This book was not clean at all, and not recommended as clean, but sometimes I branch out. However, I can ignore a lot or skip, but this book singled out and mocked Christians. That’s not okay, so this book is going in the trash where it belongs. It’s so dumb, why limit your audience?

I basically have a three strike system, and this book hit all three with anti-gun and masculinity rants, F-bombs, and the last strike was the mocking Christians rant. Goodbye to bad rubbish!

I agree about this so if I read a book that has language I don't like (I do sometimes read them) I will almost always write that I lowered my rating due to language.

Yes! I loathe books that mock people of any ilk even if I don't agree with them because it's just plain mean.

I'm not a fan of the "F" word at all. I don't like hearing it (from people or on TV and in movies) and I really don't like reading it in books. Whenever I'm reading a book and it gets to a point where the F word is used, it's a big disappointment. That sounds weird, probably but it's kind of like they throw in the word as a wrench. My favorite author uses it a lot and it's disappointing because I really like her books.

oh I know right! i had put down the bible once it got to judgin people. i cant stand judgement!

I know, right!!! The worst thing is when someone swears! I once saw someone getting hurt and they swore! My poor ears!

I just had to put down The Rose Code, I was so invested in the plot, and was really sad not to finish it, but after some sexually explicit content, and trying to make adultery seem ok, it wasn't worth it.

Books I've put down & why:
*The Clockwork Girl by Anna Mazzola- some iffy details regarding prostitution & language (s-word is where I tapped out)
*The Last Protector by Andrew Taylor- Language (f-bomb)
*A Good Man by Ani Katz (sexual content)

It isn't always fool-proof, but posting in case it helps someone :) Checking the one star reviews on Amazon often helps me find content issues in books. It works better with more famous series (ACoTaR, Fourth Wing, etc.) than it will with lesser-known reads, but it has saved me time and energy.

I recently had to stop reading High Country by Nevada Barr. ( I read a previous one of hers years ago, liked it and didn’t remember it being full of swear words) Well I had to quit!! The “F” word was all over the place. The plot was pretty raw also. Are all her books full of filthy language? What a waste!!!

I put down A Frugal Wizard’s Handbook to Surviving Medieval England. Half a million swear words every chapter 😑 (obvi exaggerating but still whyyy) also Arena by Karen Hancock. There was sexual abuse in it and i had no idea 😳💀

I just quit listening to Beautiful Ugly by Alice Feeney. F bombs and a lot of sex and masturbation… silly me thought it wouldn’t get worse. It just kept on with it. I’m out.
