Paul (paullev) | 206 comments I guess there's a list for everything http://concord.wikia.com/wiki/Drug_Re...

Andreas | 164 comments Nice :)
The article only leaves out the huge amounts of nicotine consumed in Zelazny's work!

Trike I've read a couple books recently (I forget which ones) that specifically called out caffeine as a drug. Considering it's the most widely-used drug in the world, I'm surprised it's not on the list.

Oh, one is The Icarus Hunt by Timothy Zahn, where some aliens are addicted to it, but another one was about humans.

Donna (earthreader) | 19 comments I've read most of Iain M. Banks Culture series, and I think it's fascinating how The Culture not only consumes drugs to alter their mood, but their bodies can manufacture drugs at will by a process called "glanding." How convenient would that be? :)

Jen (jenlb) | 174 comments They've got some of Norman Spinrad's books, but I find it odd that they ignore Child of Fortune. It's pretty much a story about recreational/addictive drugs- technically it's the journey of a young woman (who lives in a very interesting universe), but drugs play a huge role.

Carolyn (seeford) | 203 comments Interesting, thanks for sharing.

"Interest in the drug consumption of aliens is rare. Exceptions include the sale of catnip and anisette to the feline Salariki in Andre Norton's (Andrew North) 1956 novel Plague Ship and the sale of marijuana to the Hjadd in Allen Steele's 2008 novel Galaxy Blues.[1]"
This, made me think of the aliens' addiction to ginger in Harry Turtledove's Worldwar and Colonization series.
