This is probably one of the greatest sci-fi books of all time:

Dune

I have so many friends who love "Dune," and I didn't care for it. I had it assigned to me in Honors English back in high school, and it just wasn't my cup of tea. Overall, I found that I prefer the fantasy type of sci-fi to "hard" sci-fi. Like I said, though, lots of my friends think it's brilliant. The best thing, to me, is that there are so many books and ideas that no one has to like all of the same things. :-)

Gary Ballard (gary_ballard) | 54 comments One of my favorites is:
Snow Crash

Even though I probably like Bruce Sterling more as a whole, Snow Crash just hits all my buttons.

And of course, I have to recommend my own book:
Under the Amoral Bridge A Cyberpunk Novel
