If you have any books that you would like to giveaway, swap, etc. and/or you would like to adopt books from a list that somebody wants to get rid of; you may post the book or books and lists you would like to swap, books you hope somebody might want to give you to adopt or any books that you simply would like to giveaway here on this thread.

You may post your responses, lists, swaps, giveaways here and if somebody posts a response to you then you can then handle how and where to send the books via PM.

Please respond here so that these good club samaritans will not be bombarded with PMs.

Good luck with hunting for your reading needs, adopting unwanted reads and/ or giving away books you no longer want. Folks usually work out the postage costs so that everybody comes out whole.

Bentley

Note: There is no solicitation of any kind on this thread or anywhere on The History Book Club site.

This thread is for swapping a book you have for a book somebody else has, it is for adopting a book that somebody no longer wants or it is a thread for posting a book you want to give away free with no strings attached except that the person pays the postage to get the book.

But the book itself is free; this is not a thread to advertise or solicit for any other site; nor is it a place to advertise getting a book if you do a review (then the book is not really free - is it? - you would have had to do something to get it). Any book put here is free of all entitlements.

Our rules state: no solicitation of any kind and we mean just that. This thread is not for self promotion, promoting anything, selling anything, advertising, marketing, or any other spam.

If you want to give a book away free and you expect nothing in return and no promise of reviews either, then this is the thread for you. We also do not promote any book review sites.

Joe (blues) I own an extra copy of American Sphinx by Joseph Ellis. It's a hardcover, 1st edition, in excellent condition, and I would like to give it away in anticipation of our up-and-coming Presidential Series read. If anyone has any suggestions on how we can do this, please respond.

Joe, you might want to look at the folks who have signed up to do American Sphinx and maybe one of those folks might not have their book as yet; so they would appreciate the give away. This is a great deal.

My suggestion is this: first, the person should be signed up to be part of The American Sphinx discussion which begins in February and if they are not signed up yet; then they should do so right away.

There are 12 yeses and 9 maybes:

The yeses are:

You, Me, Betty Dravis, Mark, Simon, Liz, Sera, Bryan Craig, Rick, Viviane, Dhenning 1950, Vince

These folks should get first dibs.

Then there are the nine maybes: if anyone of these members changes their maybe to yes, then they also can be considered.

I would do it on a first come first served basis; first those who have said yes, then the maybes if in fact they agree to change their maybe to yes. There has to be somebody in the group who would appreciate a free book especially if they have signed up for the book discussion already.

If you are interested in the giveaway...please post here.

Joe will then contact you via private PM.

Welcome...since we have our copies already...this really is a great opportunity for a group member.

Joe (blues) How about we give the book to the person who joins our group on Christmas, or closest to Christmas, if everyone has a copy. But I do like the idea you suggested. We can wait till then and see what happens.

Yes, I cannot believe that all of the folks who signed up for the Jefferson read have their book yet...they probably have not found their way to this thread yet.

Your idea is a great one. It is easy to tell who joins in the membership area and also on what day.

So if there are no takers...then Happy Holidays it is.

message 15: by Craig (new)

Craig (twinstuff) I know this thread hasn't been used in awhile, but I do have some extra copies of several books I'd like to make available if anyone wants to do a 1-for-1 exchange. The two books I could offer new copies of to anyone are:

A People's History of the United States 1492 to Present by Howard Zinn Howard Zinn
Howard Zinn
and

The Right Stuff by Tom Wolfe Tom Wolfe Tom Wolfe

If you're interested in either, post the book you want to trade and we can exchange addresses in a PM. Each person would just pay postage to ship the book.

Great opportunity but we allow no self promotion - very strict policy on our site. Otherwise we would be filled with billboards disguised as posts. Please do not self promote on our site again.

Jack Tappe is looking for some books to share - here is his message - he is getting kind of desperate. I think he is a good candidate for book swap - our policy is that postage is paid by the recipient to the sender at the very least unless other arrangements are made on both sides. As you are aware we ban solicitation of any kind so this is just a way that group members can work with each other and do some exchanges if they like - we do not get involved whatsoever in any aspect of these exchanges nor are we liable for anything - for example - if somebody does not pay your postage due. This is between both of you.

Jack | 32 comments To all, this may be the wrong forum for this request, but I am getting desperate. I am a military guy and I move often. My personal library is huge and the wife is getting annoyed. I am looking for a good overall book discussing the seven years war. My local library is fairly weak on this certain areas of my interests. I have mailed books to other folks free of charge for them to keep. Most of you probably will not go for that and I completely understand. I would entertain some of you to ship a book to me and I will gladly send it back with a sincere thank you and some cash.

Regina Lindsey | 26 comments For anyone in the Irish challenge, I ended up with two copies of The Celts: A History by Peter Berresford Ellis. I'm happy to mail someone a copy if they are interested in it. PM me

Regina - hello - you have to do the citation for the book this way:

The Celts A History by Peter Berresford Ellis by Peter Berresford Ellis Peter Beresford Ellis

Book cover, the word by, author's photo if available and it is for this book, and then the author's link.

Folks this is very nice of Regina to offer this extra book, those of you doing the Ireland challenge might want to take advantage of this offer.

This is also the thread for bookswaps, adoptions and giveaways from your personal collection. This is not a thread to promote your book or any self promotion. All such posts will be deleted.

Many members will pay shipping fees for a great book and the shipping fees are usually low for books - special media pricing at the post office. Some folks offer to mail their books for nothing to you.

You can work out the details.
