Dave Robertson | 1 comments Hi,

I'm Dave Robertson, author of Strange Hunting, an Adventure/Horror novel that takes place in various locations throughout the world: Mali, Finland, French Guyana, the Philippines and more.

Berk Willis is an ordinary young man with a normal life in rural Nebraska. During a trip to Africa, he finds that the world isn't always so routine. There are exotic people, new customs and different beliefs. He ends up in a remote village where people still protect themselves with magic and where deadly, evil things prowl in the night. It's an eye opener for Berk. Are there other monsters in the world? Are trolls real? Vampires? He decides to research ancient folk tales and legendary beasts, to experience the traditional ceremonies and to hunt the old monsters.

Dave,

Please post this in the Bulletin Board section, or the genre folders that apply to the work.

This is not the correct thread.

Mary Bey | 23 comments Why don`t we have a place for realistic fiction and sad stories.
And what about a place where authors can give advice with budding authors.

Vincent Lowry (vlowry) | 1126 comments Mod
Hi Mary,

The Bulletin Board is a great place where you can start a thread asking for author advice, or giving it. You can also use that section too ask about sad stories or the like.

I'm not sure why they aren't appearing as live links on your end, but here is another link for historical fiction (you can post your work here too): http://www.goodreads.com/topi..."

I'm not seeing live links, either. Don't know how to get to my genre folder

message 57: by Vincent, Group Founder (new)

Vincent Lowry (vlowry) | 1126 comments Mod
I need to update that first page so the links work.

It's going to be a bit of a project--we have tons of folders--but when I find the time I'll do it.

In the meantime, you can scroll to your genre on the group's front page.

Thank you,

V.W. Singer | 141 comments Hi Vincent,

Any chance of an erotica folder? After all, there are writers presenting erotica in the group. I don't mind if there is a "no nakedness on the covers" rule or something.

Mary Buras-Conway (maryeconway) | 176 comments What is normal thinking? Who's to judge? As long as it doesn't hurt anyone I believe anything goes. As a lover of fantasy and starting to write a fantasy series, I think it is amazing where our minds can take us. Is it normal or sane? Who's to say. But if it is insanity, all of the fantasy/paranormal authors out there that I love I hope they never find sanity.

Tatter Jack (TatterJack) | 4 comments Greetings, elders and wise :-)
An' if I may, 'tis a fine thing tae walk among ye, aye, an' a thing I dinnae deserve! But if a vagabond with delusions of literature is welcome here, I'll try tae be less o' woe than I am o' weal, an' my thanks for the welcome!
Ahem. Yes - right. Back in your closet for now, Tatters (blush).
So if I may, and at the risk of once more beating a long dead equine, might I seek your wisdom? And while the thought was sparked by wandering the discussion boards here, and trying to work out where to put some of my own titles, I don't want to distort this with the Great Sin of Marketing(tm) (blush) - so I won't mention any of my own books. But this was the thought (and not for the first time).
When does one cross the line?
It's a lot easier in the Land Called Real. For a lot of lines, like the ones between countries, there are clues. Some of those clues have guns strapped to their waist, and some are just signs in the road. But what about writing genres? For instance, when does Fantasy become Paranormal, or vice and verse? How many kisses should occur in a crime novel before it's really a Romance? How many times must Lucy and Edmund come back through the wardrobe, looking for someone to genetically analyse the tuft of hair they stole from Aslan, before the Narnia books become Urban Fantasy and not straight Fantasy?
OK. So I'm kidding about Aslan's hair. Well, probably... :-).
But there it is - the thought I had. Well, had again :-). What do you think, elders and wise, wise ones and fair? :-)))

Groovy Lee Hi, Vincent

Would it be okay if you opened a folder for authors to list their Suspense novels for all genres? Thank you for your time.

Ju Ephraime (juephraime) | 96 comments Hi Vincent,

I hope I'm posting this in the right spot. We have a group starting out for authors of steamy romance, it's not erotica, but heated, all genres. Our aim is to provide support to each other, promoting, reviewing, beta reading, etc. It's by invitation only. Message me if you're interested.

David J. Bookbinder (davidbookbinder) | 7 comments It would be great if there were a folder for Art and Photography. It's a genre my book Paths to Wholeness: Fifty-Two Flower Mandalas happens to fit in, but also a category that many of my favorite books also share.

Thanks for considering it,
David

Gail Meath (goodreadscomgail_meath) Hi Tatter, can't stop myself from replying to you, altho Joy's post brings up a great subject and David's post about art...my dad was an artist so a favorite subject of mine. Anyway, ahem, Tatter - had to read your post several times to...uh...grasp it all, or, perhaps, to enjoy a few more minutes of your humor. As an elder (not wiser), STOP blushing and let us know your titles!!! I'm dying to know now....and welcome.

Deepti Sharma (deeptilsharma) | 4 comments Hi
Not sure if this is an issue at my end, but none of the folders are appearing as clickable links on my system. I wished to navigate to the Mystery/Thriller folders, though if there is a Romantic Thriller genre, it'd suit my English version of 'Chandrakanta' admirably. Thanks in advance.

Best

I've put up an intro to the book (rather long), but so far, I've been unable to locate the poetry foler, and I don't want to post in an incorrect place. Any suggestions? Thanks, Victoria Leigh Bennett (Vicki)

Mattia Lorenzo Zonno (mattiazonnoauthor) | 9 comments Hello fellows,

I trust this message finds you well.

I am reaching out to this community seeking guidance on a matter of great importance to me as an independent author.

My recently published book has garnered around 170 positive reviews, particularly from Advance Reader Copies (ARCs), on platforms such as Amazon and Goodreads.

While the reception has been heartening, I find myself facing the challenge of effective marketing. In an effort to boost visibility, I have implemented a strategy of reaching out to my TikTok followers.

Specifically, I have engaged with those who possess Kindle Unlimited subscriptions by providing them access to the book through a video plot of the novel and I asked readers to share their experience through simple, faceless videos showcasing the book cover with a "currently reading" caption, aiming to boost the visibility of the book's hashtag.

However, I now find myself at a crossroads. I can't sustain this approach indefinitely as it is very time-consuming and hinders my ability to focus on writing the sequels.
In light of this, I've explored alternative avenues and even reached out to publishing houses with the intention of republishing the book, as marketing is not my forte.

If any of you have experience or recommendations on effective indie author marketing, or if you have insights into approaching publishing houses, I would greatly appreciate your valuable input.

I am particularly interested in understanding how to leverage social media and other channels to broaden the reach of my book and connect with a wider audience.

Thank you in advance for your time and consideration. I look forward to learning from your experiences and receiving any suggestions you may have.

Patrick O'Connor | 17 comments A few years ago, I partook of a free week of lessons on indie Amazon publishing by a fellow named Bryan Cohen. It helped me find ways to reach readers and improve my sales. He's doing another Profit Challenge on the 17th of January. It doesn't cost anything and may prove worthwhile in improving profitability in your books.

https://learn.bestpageforward.net/jan24

I'm joining it again for the sixth time, because there's always something new to learn. It doesn't cost anything but time, and I understand how you're short on that as-is, but it's only a week, an hour or so per day, and I, for one, found it useful!

Peter Jones | 6 comments Hi Vincent

I find it odd there is no philosophy section, thus nowhere to place my book. Perhaps it's not a busy genre here, but still...

Great group though.
