Everyone has one now. They were a cool thing to own for most of 2009, and were the gift to give this year for Christmas.

Most of our friends are young marrieds with two incomes who can afford to give each other such things. I hear about every second or third friend on FB status updates: "had fun playing our new Wii with dad..." etc.

What I want to know is:

Who doesn't have, want, need, enjoy a Wii?

Sure they're fun. You can bowl right in your own home! But I just loathe trendy fads like this. I hate hate hate them.

In ten years I'll buy one at a garage sale for 5 dollars.

message 3: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Sorry Sally, we have one. We love it. We've had it since it came out, if that helps.

I think I need to eat some breakfast. I just reread this first post, and what I thought was witty just sounds grouchy.

message 5: by [deleted user] (new)

We've had one for about three years now, and it's still fun. Sorry Sally.

message 6: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments i do not have one and apparently cannot operate one. at a friends house i tried one once and their son Vance who is like 6 kept telling me how to do it and then finally took the controller out of my hand and said "i'll do it" which i was fine with. i am not into video games at all but i guess the wii is fun.

i will play the wii when you can totally sit in your chair and just blink your eyes to control something

Thanks, Kevin. I'm glad you're with me on this.

message 8: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments maybe bun. that is why i am inventing something new. it is a game where you imagine yourself playing sports and such. in this game you are the best, win every time and do Matrix like moves. i am calling it the gii as in: "gee, i am awesome at pole vaulting (or whatever)"

No game cartridges, no controller or console. it is eco friendly as there is no fat packaging. you just download nothing after paying me at my online web site Gii Whizz (the second z is silent)and off you go to gaming heaven

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments My grandmother got one for Christmas. Go to my FB page, check out the pics I'm tagged in - my cousin tagged a couple of pics of my grandmother kicking everyone's collective butts in Wii Bowling. :) She's so awesome.

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments My kids are playing right now. I never get to play. Little punks.

Get your own Wii, RA.

message 12: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Or tell them they need to take a break. Parents can do that. You claim it's for their own good, and then they resent you. Circle of life.

message 13: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I do not have one and do not plan to have one.

I kick them off sometimes but they'd notice if I was on then. Maybe if I sent them to their room...

There are a lot of Wii games that don't require physical activity. You know, I've just never been a video game person, at least not since I was ten and kicked ass at Tempest at the mall's Alladdin's Castle.

message 15: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Swordfighting also has my attention. What game is that?

There's a great game called Rayman's Ravin Rabbids 2 in which you get to slap alien bunnies that are singing off key, and see how far you can toss a cow and other extremely random things. No exercise but really funny.

message 16: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Yes, my kids love all the rabbit games!

message 17: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments swordfighting? now i am in. i was going to invent wii jousting but you really have to use smaller ponies in the living room and they are generally sort of cantankerous plus you have to have air holes in the boxes they come in

message 18: by RandomAnthony (last edited Jan 01, 2010 11:19AM) (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments If Kevin and I were to swordfight on Wii I'd insist we wear costumes like this:

http://www.dvdtown.com/media/news/com...

(I think Wii jousting already exists on "Medieval Games".)

Edit: Yep...

http://www.amazon.com/Medieval-Games-...

message 19: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Oh, my kids have the new skateboarding game where they have a skateboard and tilt it back and forth to steer...that's pretty cool.

message 20: by Jaimie (new)

Jaimie (jaimie476) | 664 comments Swordfighting! Jousting! Now I want one! That rabbit game looks fun too.

Wii is one of the only systems we don't have. My husband still has an Atari, Nintendo, Super Nintento, Sega Genesis, all in working condition. We've also got Playstation, PS2, Xbox, Gamecube (mine!), Gameboy Advanced SP (mine too!), and I just bought him the Xbox 360 Elite for Xmas.

I don't really have too much patience for gaming anymore. But if I'm swordfighting that might be different.

message 21: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments dangit. beat to an invention again.

yup. i would totally wear that RA. and i want all the TC girls in barmaid wench costumes cheering. they totally do NOT want me in those medieval re-enactment events with the guys who speak elvish and wear leggings. they would be all proper courtesy and out comes Mr. 300 with a real mace

Count me in! I never pass up an opportunity to be a lusty wench! :-)

message 23: by [deleted user] (new)

Is that the only type of wench? :-)

message 24: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments well jim, you got your lusty wench, your busty wench and of course the famous crescent wench

message 25: by Félix (new)

Isn't sword-fighting a euphemism for gay man sex?

I guess it's every day one sees a grandmother (and greatgrandmother) kicking some Wii butt...

message 38: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Hee. I dug those pictures. But yes, can't walk down the street without seein' a grandma play wii...

message 39: by Her (new)

Her Majesty (hermajesty) | 122 comments I honestly never wii'd, played it a couple of times but I feel silly jumping, ..kicking or just moving the remote thingi around, plain silly!

my 5 and 6 year old nephews can kick my butt anytime

message 40: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments We tried the Wii Fit Plus this weekend, since we had liked the Wii Fit a lot.
The Plus has a game called "Rhythm Kung Fu", which utterly defeated me, to Zu's endless entertainment. I couldn't mirror the motions on screen at all. The music and the moves were off from each other, so that I kept syncopating the motion. Then the game dropped virtual urns on my virtual head to shame me.

message 41: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments oh i've wii'd but i still don't have the game

message 42: by Bonnie (new)

Bonnie I absolutely Love my Wii...I play it at least twice a week. It's great entertainment for company as well.
I just bought the new Super Mario brothers game, It's just as fun as it was when I first played back in the 80's. If only I could find the New dance game everyone wants. Every store here is sold out :(

Catalina | 268 comments I want a Wii so very much.

And I hear they are doing wonders in senior centers and assisted living homes.

I understand not being on for trends, but many things start of as "trends" and become a part of everyday life (cars come to mind).

message 47: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Trend resistance is often futile.

message 48: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Wii just became even cooler! Starting this spring, Netflix will stream over Wii as well as Xbox 360, and without a membership fee!
I'm very excited about this since I hate watching Netflix on our stuttery laptop, and it doesn't play on my just-pre-Intel-Mac.

message 49: by Kelly (Maybedog) (new)

Kelly (Maybedog) (maybedog) Without a membership fee??

My almost-nephew who just turned 5 has been able to kick our butts on most WII games for months now. His mom is an addict and plays all the time, and I'm not too shabby, either. But he puts us to shame.

message 50: by Kelly (Maybedog) (new)

Kelly (Maybedog) (maybedog) Misha wrote: "I just wanted to comment to say I am completely in love with Wii boxing. I'd really like to know if I can make "Mii" characters to fight against. Say, a Rush Limbaugh "Mii" to beat the crap out of...."

Ooo, that would be awesome! The five-year-old of which I speak made a Darth Vader Mii to battle.
