Cool, I'm looking forward to reading those. I have read one modern classic as well, The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath.

Cool. :) So, what classics are you most looking forward to reading?

Well, I should be finishing up Great Expectations withing the next week or so, so I'll probably move on to Anna Karenina or Pride and Prejudice, though I'm not sure. There are several that I really want to read.

Cool :D
Cool :D

Mainly a handful of Shakespeare, but not too many. But I am hopeful to get into them and read a good bunch of them in the next year.

Sounds like you are the rest of us, wanting to read more of the classic genre. May I suggest that you add Middlemarch to the Suggestion Topic made by Alyssa?
Have fun reading!
:)
Welcome to the group Rachel!
I can promise you that we will be reading plenty of Dickens here. And I'll put Middlemarch onto the voting list for April!
Thanks for joining!

Well, I can put those books on the voting list too, maybe we'll read one next month! :)
Go for it! I myself will be starting it hopefully in a day or two.

I've only recently discovered the greatness of classics, thanks to my AP English teacher, so I have a lot of reading ahead of me. Fine by me!
I'm currently reading Jane Austen novels, just finished Pride and Prejudice, now I'm starting Persuasion.
Jane Eyre was fantastic!
My favorite classic so far was The Picture of Dorian Gray. Very intense.
I've read: Pride & Prejudice, Sense & Sensibility, The Phantom of the Opera, The Count of Monte Crisco, The Lord of the Flies, Dracula, Little Women, The Yearling, Anne Frank, Anne of Green Gables, and I'm pretty sure theres more.
Old Yeller, Where the Red Fern Grows, The Outsiders.
@Emma: Wow! I think you've read more than the rest of us!
Or most of the rest of us, that is. Awesome!
What have been your favorites so far?

Hmm....I loved Jane Austen's works. OH, and Phantom of the Opera and Dracula! Lord of the Flies was really good, Old Yeller and Where the Red Fern grows made me cry. Little Women was great too!

i also loved to kill a mockingbird as well. it is one of my fav books. currently reading the unabridged version of the count of monte cristo cuz i heard a lot of good stuff about it. so far its pretty sweet and i have really hig hopes

i couldn't really get into Little women. i felt that aside from its lenght it could very well be a childrens book. it seemed very simplistic to me.

didnt really get into anna karenina cuz i was reading it online and it just felt complicated. might give it another shot if i get a hard copy of the book.

have u started reading the count of monte cristo? make sure to read the unabridged cuz the abridged just feels rushed

Here, here - i read it, but it took like forever as it kept going on and on and on....unfortunately not one of my favs

Here, here - i read it..."
i know right and it was so shocking for me as a lot of peoplehave splendid things to say about the book. i was so scared i was dimwit when i realised how much i wasnt liking the book.

I just finished Anna Karenina.
I've also read Great Expectations, Sense & Sensibility, Pride & Prejudice, The Portrait of Dorian Gray and Tale of Two Cities.
My next choice is Moby Dick. I've been wanting to read that for ages.

I love classics and I've read quite a few of them...around 62 (I have a classics shelf on goodreads so I can keep up with how many I've read). My favorites are The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter, The Great Gatsby, The Bell Jar, The Fountainhead, The Brothers Karamazov, and Franny and Zooey.
I'm currently reading Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier and I have Persuasion on hold at the library.

I'm hoping to read The Picture of Dorian Gray next month.

It was awful reading the hard copy, I can imagine trying to read it from a computer. I love the classics, but Anna Karenina was different from what I expected. They try to make it seem like it's a book that empowers women because Anna is strong-willed and independent, but really, she's just a (warning: potential spoiler ahead) cheater and a weakling. IMO.

Uhmm, on the top of my head , I've read:
Jane Eyre
Wuthering heights
Great expectations
Persuasion
Sense and sensibility
Pride and prejudice
Mansfield park
Northanger abbey
Emma
Little Women
Good wives
Little men
Jo's boys
The picture of Dorian Gray
Heidi...

I saw the BBC production and just loved it.
