Hi, all! Is anyone else on PaperbackSwap? I'm there under the name midori-se7en. I just finished reading Bitten and I'm going to be posting it soon. If any of you have it on your wish-list there, I can post it directly to you if you have the credit for it. Otherwise it just goes to whoever is first in line. If anyone wants it, drop me a link to your profile and I can post it to your wish-list!

Also, I figured this thread could be used so that anyone who is about to post a paranormal romance can list it here first and give people in the group a chance at the book before anyone else. I know a lot of the books in the paranormal romance genre are on people's wish-lists on PBS.

So I am a little slow on the inner workings of PBS, if I post a book do my buddies see it first?

No Dawn they don't see it first. Just go to your buddies wish lists and check and see if they have it on their wish list before you post it.

Yep, what Sherry said. If you post a book, it just goes into the general PBS library. If it's something someone has on their wish-list, it would just go to whoever was first in queue. If you want to post specifically to a buddy, you'd have to go to their wish-list and post it to them that way. If it's not a wish-listed book, they can just go to your bookshelf and request it from there.

I don't think PBS has a site for Canada, or allows us to request books from other countries; however, I think BookMooch does and it's a similar concept.

I love PBS, LL. I've sent out almost 150 books and received even more. :)

Oh wow, Harper. That's cool! Unfortunately I won't be able to order any books until the three I sent get checked as received by the sender (which could take forever). Mostly due to me not signing the barcode thingy while sending & also me not having two free credits for being a first-time member. Apparently someone who used to live in my new place was a member of PBS at one time & screwed their account up. I explained to PBS that it wasn't me because I've never been a member but they still disabled my two free credits because I live at the same address the previous resident did.

Looks like I'll have to join this shindig. My stack of already read books is getting pretty high these days.

I've never looked at paperbackswap before. How exactly does it work?

Once you join you can add as many books as you are willing to swap. If you post 10 you get 2 free credits just for posting. It takes one credit to request a book and 2 for audio books. Once you have requested a book the user will have to accept and ship the book. You pay nothing when you request a book. When a book is requested from you, you can select a day the book is due to ship. You can mail before that date, but whatever you choose is the deadline. For me, shipping is about $3. Once the book is shipped you will not get a credit until the member you shipped it to marks it received. That is, unless you mail it through PaperBackSwap with the postage printed onto the packaging. Shipping it that way gives you an instant credit.

For books that you want, but are not available right then for request you can Wish List. The Wish List tells you what position you are (like a library) how many wishes have been sent that week, and the approximate time it will take for your book to become available. You can also put books on hold, if you do not currently have the credit or you are going on vacation.

I really like it. A lot of the older PNR, UF and HR books are on there. I generally find that the first and last books in a series are hardest to come by, but the books in between you can usually just order. YA books, however, are really pinned after, so if you post those they will most likely go quickly.

Oh, that sucks, LL! Books get delivered fairly quickly, though, so you should have credits to use soon.

Yes you can give your friends first dips on the books that you post. You have to find the book on the friend's wishlist & then click "post this book." Doing this will post the book to the person & then they can decide if they still want the book or not.

I always post books to people on my buddy list before instead of just doing a general post.
