message 102: by Charity (new)

Charity (charitydlikesit) | 1 comments I have spurts where I will only buy a couple a month and then I have spurts like this past month where I bought a whole series of about 7 books in one day, then the next week several other books, then I bought a couple lots of books used from ebay...so I think my total for this past month is 47 (but I did get an incedible deal on ebay) LOL!

message 103: by Jessica-elise (new)

Jessica-elise | 4 comments I keep a list of the all the books I buy, and since the beginning of 2011 I have bought 42! 8 yesterday alone! I just love the look of an overflowing bookshelf though, and I will read them all eventually...

message 104: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Dillon (ashniss) I can not pass up a good eBay deal ever!!

Oh my gosh you are so not helping with my problem lol. You buy a lot of books and you make me want to buy more! I have a Kindle AND a Sony reader that I do use a lot but something about a good ol' paper book is just soothing. I've always had this problem, even before I actually started getting into reading. I collected books just because. Now I buy faster than I can read!

message 106: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (sarahandherbookshelves) I usually buy 2-3 a week. Spending the most 50$.

message 107: by Deeps (new)

Deeps | 1 comments Ok the way I see it this is more for enabling the addition rather than help control :)
Yeah I am new and I too have a need to own books. If I borrow and like I need to own. Never mind if I never read it again, when I see it in my book rack I heart soars.
We are fast running out of space so I am doing my best to control but some times it is so hard.....

Yes I do think that this group was meant to let us addicts know that our addiction is OK lol. I never even realized I was like this until I stumbled on this group. But now I feel good because I know that other people get just as much enjoyment out of a full book shelf as I do!

message 109: by Chiaralletti (new)

Chiaralletti | 4 comments I'm so stressed...now 30-35 a month...too much, because I don't have the time to read. :(

message 110: by Paula (new)

Paula About 5-10 a month. Last friday I got two. I love new shiny books.

The Devil's Songbird (sweetxsurendyr) "I love new shiny books." lolz, me too, i buy like 20 new books a month. i cant help it!

The Devil's Songbird (sweetxsurendyr) lol no problem...i feel the same way

message 114: by . (new)

. | 4 comments I'm averaging 25 books purchases on amazon a month, plus a few here and there at B&N. I'm on a steady S.Vanilla Latte and Book diet.. that's normal right?.. my hubby calls me a nerd =0)

message 115: by Mandie (new)

Mandie Bloom (adhrtkrn) | 6 comments I'm not sure if any of our addictions is normal, or abnormal for that matter. LOL. Either way, it's good to know you all are out there with me!

Kerra | 127 comments Toni wrote: "I have been buying 5-10 a week lately in the last couple months. Addicted I AM!"

I normally buy around 4 books a month. Not bad, you'd say, but the problem is that I get so many free ones I am getting over loaded. I wiil splurge for new books I have been waiting to come out, but it seems when you are waiting it takes forever! However, lately since getting a Kindle and joining Amazon and Goodreads I have been buying a lot more than usual. Can't help myself. Even if they sit of the shelf for a while waiting for me to read them, but I usually read several books at once, so the new ones don't last for long. Then again I have tons of free, used, and collected books that I havn't got to yet. I have about 300 non-read books in my room :)

message 117: by Kristy (new)

Kristy (darkly) | 7 comments I don't buy very many but that's only because I'd have to ask my Dad for money. But when I have the opportunity, I might hit up a used book sale and get a bag full of books for like a dollar or make a trip to a bookstore to search around (takes me hours). If I had it my way, I'd buy new books every few days most likely.

I totally feel your pain! I'll borrow audiobooks from the library and if I like the book, I'll go on ebay and buy a used copy for $5 just so I can see it on my "read" bookshelf. (I have a huge bookshelf downstairs of all the books I've read and my unread books are all upstairs). My husband thinks I'm totally nuts, but I love looking at my read bookshelf, it makes me feel like I've accomplished something besides racking up my credit card at Borders!

message 119: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne (esmerelda1) | 36 comments I too go on spurts. When I go to the bookstore I have to think about when I'm actually going to get around to reading the book and if it's worth buying it now, rather than waiting for it to go on sale later. So I end up buying Hardbooks used online and buying my mass market paperbacks new in the store. The Quality paperbacks are a toss up because I love a good "Buy One, Get One half Off" or "Buy 2 Get 3rd Free" sale. They're running out of QP that I haven't already purchased or read though...

message 120: by Lori (new)

Lori (ellevio) I can't even pass a book store without going in to check what is new or on sale.

Neither can I, they pull me in.

message 122: by Noortje (new)

Noortje de Graaff (lordkiwii) | 5 comments It varies. Back in Holland (where I'm from) I don't buy that many books because we don't have that many English books (and I refuse to read them translated) and the ones we do are really expencive.
But I'm in England for a year now and here I buy about 2 books a week average. But it's more like series of 4 a 5 books. Lately it has been pretty bad at about 10-15 books a month because there have been some serious sales going on >.<
I love it, but my wallet suffers.

message 123: by Nyla (new)

Nyla (nilly21) | 24 comments I never really was much of a reader, then just last year I really got into reading & now I just can't stop buying books! This year alone, I think I have bought atleast 6 or 7 books!

I was doing really good, (I'm a bit of a slow reader so it takes me a little longer to read books) and I had read 4 books in about a month and a half and then I read a book that took me about a month to read (I FORCED myself to finish it, cuz I hated it soo much) So now my wanting to read is a lil torn...but I'm going to be starting a book either tonight or tomorrow & hopefully make a good dent in my TBR pile that I have built up over the past few months now.

I'm living in a really small town, the nearest book store is about 45 minutes away (I'm thinking). So my average weekly/monthly book buying is pretty low....BUT I'm sure if I lived near the book store, I would be there almost every day.

I was pretty proud to buy a book that is out of print :) best $13 I've spent!

message 124: by Lori (new)

Lori (charm72) | 11 comments I love my books. I read the books I buy except I have so many I haven't read them all yet but I love buying them,my husband would like for me to sell them or trade them in but I keep them all. I do read some of them more than once.

message 125: by Ashutosh (new)

Ashutosh Karhale | 1 comments I am a student, and i still live on my parents money thats why i dont get enough money to spend on my books. But i still manage to save money and and buy atleast 2-3 boks a week. I buy books online so usually i get 30 to 50 percent off thats why i can buy lots of books. But after joining this group i got inspired by fellow book lovers and yesterday i bought 17 books. I spent all of my months money on that. I think i should go on book diet for next month.

message 126: by Paulo (new)

Paulo Martins (paulomartins) | 1 comments Because I feel guilty of buying more books when I have at home hundreds of books I have not read yet, I took an important decision to feel myself better: I can only buy a new book after reading two of the books I have at home. This way, I can still buy books without feeling bad, and I am reducing the number of unread books I have in my shelves.

same here, god forbid i go to park city or pass Barnes and Noble

message 128: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Dillon (ashniss) Barnes and Noble is way too expensive! Thats prob the only bookstore I can honestly pass and not buy something!

The Devil's Songbird (sweetxsurendyr) lolz, but the conditions are really good. and they have places where you can sit and read books for HOURS

What kind of books do you read?

Thats true, but I like to cuddle up on my couch and read. The amount of books I buy, I could not afford that place! Most books are almost $20!

message 132: by The Devil's Songbird (last edited Mar 10, 2011 07:35AM) (new)

The Devil's Songbird (sweetxsurendyr) yeah, but still. i love the fact that they dont make you buy the book, if you are a fast reader

message 133: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Dillon (ashniss) You could just go there and read it over time and never buy it!

The Devil's Songbird (sweetxsurendyr) i know, thats what i love

Kerra | 127 comments Debbie wrote: "I get most of mine free from library giveaways, friends, swaps, etc."

How does a book swap work on here? Just curious. Also I get a lot of my books for free too. The only ones I have been buying lately are the ones that I have been getting to put on my kindle. They are cheaper than buying the real thing at a book store, especially new releases.

message 138: by Kim (new)

Kim (kimflo) | 14 comments I created an Amazon account and recently started thrifting in 2011, which significantly increased my book-splurging. So far this year I believe i've purchased a little over 30 books. Not bad. Before 2011 I probably bought 30 books over a span of 5-10 years.

message 139: by Kim (new)

Kim (kimflo) | 14 comments Our local Goodwill sells used books an average of $3, and another local thrift store called "Rocket Reuse" sells used books for no more than $5. WIN!

message 140: by Alison (new)

Alison (allylex) | 2 comments I have always wanted a library and when we bought our home I made sure the front bedroom had enough room for book shelves now I have run out of room and need more.
I buy on average 4 books a month, but this does not include the ones I get on my ipad. If I include them I tend to get about 10 a month.
I love books, not just reading them but buying them, adding them to my collection.

I had preordered my books for 2012 last year so I know I will get them as soon as they are released. :)

So glad I am not alone in this addiction

message 141: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Dillon (ashniss) I would love to have my own library at home! That would be soooo amazing!

message 142: by Alison (new)

Alison (allylex) | 2 comments I have one side with all my Science Fiction (paranormal Romance) and another side for all my history fiction and biographys
I am now looking for a really comfy chair so I can enjoy sitting in there surrounded by books.
How is that for heaven lol

Wow, you really have bumped it up a notch. Not bad, but great. I support any book addictions :) It is better than being addicted to something else. I didn't buy very many books either until last year. I usually got them for free or borrowed them. However, I feel the need to own every book I read, so the borrowig and library thing doesn't really work good for me. However, there is a spacific book store I go to two towns over from me that sells Stephen King hard back and paper backs used for no more than $8! Can't beat that. Though I have never spent more than $4 in that book store. Very good deals. Also when I go to our close by Goodwill they sell used books for .99 cents if they are paper back and $1.99 for hard backs. I make a killing there. Love it! I only buy new books when it is a seires I have been waiting for the next book to come out or if it is a book I have been dying to read.

message 145: by Toni (new)

Toni | 18 comments Wow, I started this thread a year ago!!! and just happened across it and it is still going strong. So I am glad I am not alone. I still buy a ridiculous amount of books. I even got a kindle and a nook for Christmas and went crazy on those for awhile and now I am back to needing to buy physical books again. I spent $70 today on books. This website fuels my need to buy more. I have been checking some books out at the library and buying a bunch of used books. But I did spend $60 of that money today on new books. I probably spend a few hundred a month on books.

message 146: by Luciana (new)

Luciana | 26 comments I limit myself to about $100-120 a month. How many books I buy with that amount greatly depends on the books. I almost never buy them second-hand though. I love the smell and the feel of a brand new book.

message 147: by Bobbye (new)

Bobbye (bobbyez) | 1 comments For myself, I usually buy 6-10 books a week. Most from thrift shops and half price book stores.I'm a single mom of two and full time employee so the only time I have to read for myself is when I ride the bus to/from work (about 1 1/2 hour each way). For my son (7 year old) we average about 4-5 books (the independent reader kind). However, I go back to school this summer and I'll have to stop buying books for pleasure and get to studying....

message 148: by Krista (new)

Krista (stfuattdlagg) | 26 comments I try buying monthly so id say 20 or more a month I get thru a book within a day or 2 and I always make sure I have books to read! I read by the series so when Im almost done with a series I make sure I buy another series before im done!

message 149: by Marjorie (new)

Marjorie Seward So many books to read and so little time. I have 11 books coming in the mail. One that came yesterday that I have started. Bring one the extra time!!!

message 150: by Jack (new)

Jack (echoicglory) | 41 comments It depends on the price. I usually limit my spending to around 100-150 a month. I can't afford to exceed that budget or I would have to live off leftovers food. If I bought more used books compare to new ones, I could get around 15-25, but... New books I can get maybe around 10 of it... Or more, depending on whether or not there's a sale going on.
