I am trying to make a dent in my TBR pile myself. Just need to stop adding to it. Wish I could go on a book diet :)

(Of course, I've been focusing on paying bills and getting ahead for a change, so that might be why. LOL)

I have noticed that I am driving an awful lot in the used bookstore hunt though. I have been visiting neighboring towns, even neighboring states (AL & MS). So I guess I might need to budget in the fuel I am using in that 15mpg HEMI I drive. LOL!
Books are a healthy hobby as far as I am concerned so I see no harm in the adventure to find my books.

I average about 4 new books a month, but my purchasing of used books may range anywhere from 50 to 0 depending on what I come across at the library.

Depending on what money I've got, I'll usually buy about 5-10 books per month; but that doesn't even begin to take into account my comic book addiction...
It makes me feel so bad for the trees!

I haven't a clue how many per month over the years other than it has to be a double digit number on average to have amassed the current collection.
For several years it has to be at least 5 new books a month. Several used on top of that.

I buy a lot of books with the intention of doing the same. But my book hoarding tendencies tend to get the best of me at times. =D

You might try some of the book swapping sites; most are very little cost and I have found quick to be received. this way you get book for book instead of 50 cent for a book you will have to pay 3.50 and up to replace.

I recently got 46%off 2 new books by preordering them online-- this seems to be a great way to get books that you know you'll enjoy

I have found a way to get books I want without having to spend lots of money-I go through a lot of books since I have authors I collect, as well as books I have been wanting that are no longer in print- I joined a book swapping club online- it has helped tremendously and gives me something new to look forward to- getting new(to me) books in the mail. lol! I also am taking advantage of book clubs like Borders to preorder at a very good discount so a book that would have sold for $26 I only paid
$14.50 for. It makes me feel less guilty about the amount of money that goes for books instead of bills..

Hello Rene,
I always look to find books I wish to collect at the lowest cost to me. I don't know any book swap sources, could you get me pointed in the right direction?

There's paperbackswap.com. They may also have hardcover books available, depending on what other members have posted to trade. When you first sign up, you have to list 10 of your own books to trade, and you get 2 free credits. You can get one book per credit if I understand correctly. After that, you get a credit for every book that you send to someone else, or you can buy more credit. I just signed up earlier this week myself, and haven't used it much yet.

I am really looking to trade hardbacks, or trade paper for hardback. It's amazing when you learn to really shop what you can find.

Hi Clay; paperback swap lets you choose which you want whether paperback, hardback, audio or CD. I have been a member for a while, and really enjoy it- I have found books that I've been looking for a long time, although if it is readable I'll take it. haha when you look up a title or author it will list all forms available- if hb isn't listed you can wishlist it and if someone posts a hardback version they'll notify you by email that "your wish has been granted"

That's a great idea. Especially getting books at the library for so cheap. Thanks for sharing this!
