There are five categories for the challenges for 2010: 1) Author Challenge (Long list), 2) Author Challenge (Short list), 3) The Brontë Sisters, 4) Scandalous Works, and 5) A Little Diversity. In total you can achieve 500 points for the year!! Go directly to the folders for detailed instructions of each category. Each month, e-mail me directly with your points for that month and I will keep a tally with you for the end of the year results. So that we can all follow our scores, and motivate ourselves to read more and more, record your works read and points gained EACH MONTH under the folder “Challenge Points!” When you record your lists for the month, please use the author/title feature for the book in the comment section and give the points according to each challenge. Some challenges require that you complete all the works before you can gain points, so just record the book(s) you completed for that list in that month if you wish to. I also suggest that you record your points separately – some may want to keep track of points in the “Notes” section of your Goodreads profile, for instance. If you have read any of the books listed in the challenges DURING THE YEAR 2010, then you may record the points. Also, the monthly discussion books DO count for the challenges. For example, if you read this month’s discussion, Jane Eyre, then you can count the points for that work under “The Brontë Sisters” challenge.
We can also discuss the books within each category as you’re reading. Posting questions or comments will generate a lively discussion! Some categories will require commentary for the works read to gain the points (again, go directly to each challenge folder to see these instructions).
As we all know, there is a vast amount of information available to us right at our fingertips with the Internet. I have gathered some information about authors and works for these challenges from the Internet which, as we also all know, is not always the most reliable source. Please forgive any mistakes with dates or any other information. Also, whether you research as you read is entirely up to you. If you find a helpful link or come across a useful book, please feel free to list that information in the appropriate category so that all of us can share the insight.
Any questions about the challenges or the point tally can be posted HERE in this folder.
