Julianna (authorjuliannad) | 1888 comments I'm reading Shaken And Stirred by Kathleen O'Reilly. I read a couple of her books last year that I loved, but I'm about 60 pages in and having a hard time getting into this one.

Claudia Jones (roaree1213) I am currently reading "Outlander" I have to say I am loving the book. I have a stack that I am currently trying to get through.

Both of those are classic "bodice ripper"ish HR - my favourite! Hope you like them :)

message 62: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments dang it - someone should have told me about the addiction of the in death series! I've had naked in death on audio for a while and finally started listening today and just bought the next two to listen to...blah! so much for not buying anything!

message 63: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (melaina) | 1339 comments Lol Dee! Tell me about it!!! I only had the first four books, and finished all four between Monday and Friday: I'm so impatient (waiting for the next 6 to arrive from bookdepository) that I'm listening to the books I already read!!!! :-)

I blame Yz!!! She got me hooked by recommending it to me!!! But I love her for it;-) although I'm already thinking of ordering books 11 to 15!!:-)

Isn't the narrator fabulous?? I love the different voices she does!:-) I don't usually do audiobooks, but this is my exception!!!! They just get better and better!!!

message 64: by Dee (last edited May 09, 2010 03:04PM) (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments I have a feeling i'm going to be buying some more audiobooks in the near future! lol! I've been trying to read and just couldn't get into them, but the audio is doing it...so I think i'm going to stick to them...but I have an audible membership and get a monthly credit - so I can get 1 a month, and then I bought the second one which only cost me $12...so not too bad at all...and they are like 9-10 hours long!

dang it al Yz!! its all your fault!!

the narrator is great, she is easily comparable to davina porter who does the outlander series (I highly recommend this if you are looking for something else to listen to - but each one is like 30 odd hours long)

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments After finishing Ain't She Sweet?, I've started The Spellmans Strike Again. I think if I was a Spellman child, I'd have killed my mother long ago!

message 67: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (melaina) | 1339 comments Outlander audio is 30 hours??? Wow! I just ordered the book last week (gotta wait for it to deliver now!)
What's your take on it? As good as In Death?

I had a hard time starting the first book as well, but I forced myself past the first 50-60 pages, and then got hooked: I like reading my books, gotta say! But for rereads or the car, audio isn't bad! I just started:-)

message 68: by Dee (last edited May 09, 2010 03:48PM) (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments yeah - outland is like 30 hours and they just get longer...but then the books are huge, so it doesn't surprise me...I listened to outlander on my drive to MI from VA over christmas - between the there and back, it lasted the entire trip! I'm doing my annual re-read on audio before I read Echo, but I have to find some place that has a breath of snow and ashes because audible doesn't have it unabridged...

but davina porter is awesome as a narrator - she does a great scottish brogue for jamie and his family...it gives you shivers

Hey Melanie,

Yes, I've read each and every one of them at least once, but since I've discovered the audio, I just can't go back. I'm hooked!! Susan Erickson does a fabulous job. She really makes me believe that's Roarke's voice, and Peabody's is fabulous! Okay, if I don't stop now, I'm going to run out of adjectives.

I bought her latest, Fantasy in Death, in MP3 format. On that format, each section is one chapter. I have Chapter 5 from that book on my player, and have never taken it off. I play it whenever I want a good laugh. I usually buy mine at Amazon.

And as far as audio books in general go, I love them. But it has to be a good reader, and sometimes certain books, like long descriptive ones are better in book form.

message 70: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa (vanessamc) | 394 comments Well, I finished Claiming the Highlander by Kinley MacGregor, and have moved on to Black Silk by Metsy Hingle and Silver Master by Jayne Castle. I'm not that far into either of them, but so far, I like both.

message 71: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) I just finished Undead and Unwelcome by MaryJanice Davidson and Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins
I am also reading This Time Together: Laughter and Reflections by Carol Burnett
The Last Child by John Hart 2010 Edgar award winner for best novel)
Trust Me by Jeff Abbott
A Day Late and a Dollar Short byTerry McMillan AND
Outlander by Diana Gabaldon

I'm enjoying all of these books and they are all very different. Probably Outlander is the only one that I would consider a romance though.

I'll start A Certain Slant of Lighttonight or tomorrow for the Pick it For Me challenge. then I have Dark Princefor this month's FAC. (I've read the first chapter and am not impressed so far but I hope it gets better!). This month I also need to read Brideshead Revisited, The Grapes of Wrath, and The Lost Symbol. I don't know... I enjoy the written word more.. I have the next In death book on audio, but I want to wait to read it :-) weird, I know.. I'm still listening to Rapture in death in the car :-) But it's true, the reader makes a huge diff! I once heard an audio (in french), which sounded as if the reader had just lost his dog.. depressing :-)

message 83: by Kelley (new)

Kelley (shewolf0316) | 0 comments More like what am I NOT reading? I have so many going at various locations and in different formats I'm not sure I will remember them all. But I'll try. LOL

Bathroom Book 1 - Hot for the Holidays (Includes Breeds, #20; Mageverse, #9; Stormwalker, Prequel) by Lora Leigh

Bathroom Book 2 - The Cinderella Mission (Family Secrets) (Silhouette Intimate Moments, #1202) by Catherine Mann

Bathroom Book 3 - My Guardian Angel by Kay Hooper

Yes, THREE bathroom books. LOL I saw someone in anotehr group say that was how they started gleaning the book shelves now that they have an eReader and are trying to get rid of print books. I thought. "Duh, why haven't I done that?" I have two bathrooms at home and one bathroom at work (small building and only two women who use the ladies room) so a different book in each one.

eBook - Play Dead by Meryl Sawyer

Print - Chasing Shadows (Steeple Hill Love Inspired Suspense) by Terri Reed

Audio Book in Car - Testimony A Novel by Anita Shreve

Audio Book at Home - The Thrall's Tale by Judith Lindbergh

I *think* that's all of them currently...

Lizz (Beer, Books and Boos) | 809 comments Done with Love In The Corner Pocket by Marlene Perez and starting Just Listen by Sarah Dessen

Sorry it didn't work for you, Nikki. I used to think that the Carpathians series would be one of the best PNR romance had to offer, but since reading (and disliking) Dark Prince, I've run across a lot of other people who didn't care for it either.

I see you're starting Stranger in My Arms. LK is almost always a winner for me, and I really enjoyed that one. Hope you like it too.:-)

message 86: by Erin (new)

Erin (erin-b) I keep picking up books and then deciding to start something else, so I have quite a few going at the moment. Listening to The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress by Robert A. Heinlein and Undead and Unwed (Undead, #1) by MaryJanice Davidson , and reading At Grave's End (Night Huntress, #3) by Jeaniene Frost , Blood Bound (Mercedes Thompson, #2) by Patricia Briggs , and Grave Peril (The Dresden Files, #3) by Jim Butcher .

Yeah Melanie,

I still read mostly in book form and love it. I like the audio books for getting me through tasks I don't quite enjoy, like cleaning bathrooms, ugh. I can't really hold a book while I'm cleaning the toilet. Okay, kind of gross, but you get the picture. They're also great when traveling if you get tired of music. And there's really nothing wierd about liking both or either one. If I've learned anything on this site, it's that everyone has their own personal tastes and preferences.

message 88: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (melaina) | 1339 comments LMAO Vanessa - I get the picure :-) (although I might try it, lol).. Thank God everyone has different tastes/preferences... I've gotten so many recs and ideas from GR!!

Kelley, wow... I usually read one or two books at a time, I don't like interrupting the story once I've started:-) I usually have one (sometimes two books, and nowadays one audiobook for my drive to and from work..

I reread Ella Enchanted last night (one of my favorite books, if you can believe it ;-p), and have finally received.....

****drumrolls, edge of seat anticipation****

Ceremony in Death, the 5th book in my new addiction (after reading the first four, I went ahead and ordered the next ten on BD!!) Hooyah!

I wasn't impressed at the first couple of discs but she is starting to grow on me. Her reading speed is a little too slow for my taste, but when she does the 'lisp' with her fangs out, it had me laughing like crazy.

Wow...you've caught up with me with this series. I'm glad that you are enjoying it so much. Isn't Roarke just fabulous? And Eve, despite all her prickliness, grows on you, too.

I don't read series books consecutively because I picked up writing patterns easily and then the new book doesn't feel fresh to me.

But I'm working slowly on this series, savoring every book so to speak. : )

Dee, it took every bit of willpower I have to not open Voyager last night! I'm trying to think of it as a treat to savor when I finish the other May challenge books. I know if I try to read it at the same time as the others, the other books will NEVER get read. I have some GREAT reading to look forward to! :-)

Vanessa (vanessamc) | 394 comments Melanie and Yz, wait until you get to Vengeance in Death. That one's definitely one of her best! I just finished that one a while ago. I hadn't read in awhile and so I really enjoyed it all over again. I'm going to have to buy the next couple on audio. Borders' copies are too expensive. Hopefully my father-in-law will send me another Amazon gift card for my birthday. Ah, the anticipation!

I'll be on Vengeance in Death as soon as I get the freaking book, lol (probably be waiting for it after tonight!).. I am not a patient person!!! :-)

I do that too Melanie. It makes the cleaning time go so much faster. I also listen to and from work. It's great since I count those book on challenges :)

message 96: by Carolyn F. (new)

Carolyn F. I finished Wicked Angel, sweet book. I'm reading Lion's Heat which is super intense, love it!

message 97: by Daffodil (new)

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 1058 comments I finished Avenging Angels and Tales of the Otherworld over the weekend. I finished Burning Lamp last night. I'm still in the middle of The Taste of Innocence. I've started Wolfsbane and Mistletoe and I'll start Dead in the Family tonight since it finally arrived in my mail last night. I actually read the first page and had to make myself put it down so I could finish and return the Amanda Quick book to the library. Topping my TBR pile is Wild Ride, another library book.

message 98: by Carolyn F. (new)

Carolyn F. How'd you like Tales of the Otherworld Daffodil?

message 99: by Daffodil (new)

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 1058 comments I enjoyed it very much. I zipped through it in just a few hours on Saturday. My favorite story had to be how Elena and Clay first met. Armstrong did a great job of conveying the desperation that drove Clay to first bite Elena.

message 100: by Carolyn F. (new)

Carolyn F. I pulled it for a May read, so I'm going to try to get to it next.
