Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments audible is a site for getting audiobooks for cheaper than it normally costs to buy them - its an amazon affiliate (I think) - you pay a certain amount per month for a membership (depends on how many books you want to get) - you can get one that gives you 1 book a month or 2 included...or you can buy a yearly credit which gives you like 12 or 24 credits straight up...plus they have like huge sales - they did like a first in series sale and the books only cost like $4.95 vice the normal $12-14...

Thanks Melanie, for adding me. Steal all you want; I'll be perusing yours as well! Boy you went through Conspiracy fast, girl!! Of course, you know about the novellas, right? They're all really good, so don't forget them. If you haven't checked them out, I have a book where there's three of them in one book. It's called Three in Death. And there are at least three more. I have 4 of them on audio.

Barbara ★ | 3901 comments Competed in a Read-A-Thon yesterday and read the following:

Pirate Latitudes
Bad Boys With Expensive Toys
Some Like it Kilted
Me and My Shadow

Started Wicked Lovely but couldn't finish last night. Eventhough this has great reviews, I 'm having trouble getting into it. Keenan is getting on my nerves. He's trying to act human but his actions are anything but human. It's a wonder that the other kids don't out him. And I'm not sure what's bothering me about Aislinn but I'll figure it out.

Certain things happened near the end that made me want to see where the author was going with the series...I've been more interested in the mythology the author is building than the characters themselves...I'm not sure who the cover artist for these books are, but they are simply gorgeous.

I'm 100% there with you, Daffodil. I liked the setting of the story more than the characters and I have to say that the explicit sex pulled me out of the story a bit (I read erotica so the sex per se didn't bother me but I felt that it didn't go with the story Strong was trying to tell here.) By the end, I was definitely intrigued in some developments to want to continue reading the story.

And I agree with you about the covers...they are beautiful!

D.G. | 4477 comments Right now I'm reading Running with Scissors Running with Scissors by Augusten Burroughs for a reading challenge I'm hosting at Paperback Swap. I've barely read a chapter so can't tell anything yet but it's had great reviews. It also fits in some of my other personal challenges for this year - non fiction, male authors and 1st page of TBR.

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments i'm currently reading Second Sight and The Lovely Bones and listening to Undead and Unwed (after finishing up the 2 In Death books I had to listen to and not wanting to buy any more right now - although we'll see how long that lasts...)

message 166: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments Melanie - haha!! i'm holding off buying the next two off audible, because I have a whole bunch of audiobooks i've picked up that I haven't listened to...but i'm sure i'll get the next two/three/four in the near future...lol!

message 167: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (melaina) | 1339 comments Lol Dee, where you at in the series?

message 168: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments i just finished listening to immortal in death - I don't have any of the others right now, and i'm trying to save money and not buy any because the government is still holding my tax return hostage and i have to go to Dallas, TX in a couple of weeks...so i might have to wait!

message 169: by Melanie (last edited May 16, 2010 02:46PM) (new)

Melanie (melaina) | 1339 comments Poor you:-( Rapture in death was one of my faves:-)

Think we can get a couple cover types to release the hostage? ;-)

Whenever I tell myself I need to save money is when I end up splurging the most! I just spent the last of last month's paychecks, lol:-)

Good luck with the saving up! (I'm heading to bed, it's getting close to the witching hour:-))

message 170: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments I have the next 4 sitting in my audible shopping cart...the quesiton is going to be how long can I hold out before I buy them...lol! the good thing is that each one takes longer in audiobook to listen to that it would for me to read...so that helps...I think the audio's are about 10 hours each...so they are great for the commute to work, schoolwork and all that good stuff!

message 171: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (melaina) | 1339 comments Schoolwork? Wow, I could NEVER listen to an audiobook while studying, lol... I'd end up writing Roarke and Eve's sex scene into my essay in lieu of statutes regarding assault or smt!!

But I agree that on the way to work or cleaning my room, it's pretty neat:-) I have a friend who lends them to me, but I listen to the ones I've already read:-)

message 172: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments I never used to be able to listen to anything and study and then it was music and studying and now because of the work situation I have (Multiple computer systems and tv going at the same time) - I have absolutely no ability to concentrate when its quiet...so I discovered audiobooks worked...but I havent' written any eve adn rourke sex scenes yet...so i'm safe I guess

message 173: by Melanie (new)

Now I'm reading The Postmistress. It's my book club pick for the month and we are meeting on Thursday so I thought I should start it soon! The first 50 pages were pretty dry but now I'm past page 100 and it's really interesting.

message 179: by Daffodil (new)

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 1058 comments Steph, I totally get where you were at last week. Yesterday was my book BLAH day. I finished Flirt Friday evening. Worked on Killer Sudoku puzzles the rest of the night. Then Saturday I had a meeting and didn't really get into anything new. I'm still in the middle of The Taste of Innocence and Dead in the Family. Picked them up, weren't really what I wanted so started: Second Sight: A Novel of Psychic Suspense, Wild Ride, Nightlife, and Stirring Up Strife: A Hope Street Church Mystery. None of these really satisfied my book urge, so I went back to my Killer Sudoku puzzles. I brought Nightlife to work with me and will read that now on my lunch hour.

Need something fun and exciting after that experience. Starting Cole's Pleasure of a Dark Prince. I'm ready for some hot Lykae action. : )

I got up to chapter 5, but it is not really holding my interest at the moment probably due to so many books coming out at once and me wanting to read them. I will go back to that book eventually, I just do not know what to read next.

BJ Rose (bjrose) | 4413 comments I'm reading Kristin Lavransdatter 1: The Wreath for the Seasonal Challenge. It's only 300 pages, but isn't (so far) a quick read, so in-between chapters I'm reading Dogs and Goddesses

Melanie (melaina) | 1339 comments I finished Impulse & Initiative What If Mr. Darcy Didn't Take No for an Answer? (A Pride & Prejudice Variation) by Abigail Reynolds (I loved the first 3/4 best) this afternoon, then just read The Diamond Secret A Retelling of "Anastasia" (Once Upon a Time) by Suzanne Weyn and A Kiss in Time by Alex Flinn (sleeping beauty theme), all of which I loved :-) I'm a sucker for a good fairy tale retelling :-)

Hopefully Beastly by Alex Flinn will arrive tomorrow along with Witness in Death (In Death, #10) by J.D. Robb (I don't want to skip ahead!), which will give me smt to read tomorrow:-)

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments Since I've already read the second book in the series, I might as well read Jude's Law. So that's what I'm doing.

message 191: by Danielle (new)

Danielle (Smiley1881) I'm currently reading The Historianit isn't a romance novel but it does have a love story within the story and I would recommend this book to anyone that loves history and/or vampires. Its a very good story and is very well researched.

The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova

message 192: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments I read the historian a couple of years back - it was the one book I took on deployment when they restricted our weight because it was big...I have her new one in the TBR pile but haven't gotten to it yet

Tammy Walton Grant (tamgrant) | 194 comments I liked "The Historian" too. You're right about the research, Danielle. I keep looking at her new one in the bookstore but haven't picked it up yet.

BJ, you should try the two I mentioned (they're really light and so funny!! :-p)

On another hand, I want to recommend Lord of the Fading Lands (Tairen Soul, #1) by C.L. Wilson to everyone who loves Romance (with a capital R) and fantasy... I'm so disappointed it's only the first book in the series (I wasn't going to order any more books, but it can't be helped, I'm ordering the next three!)! This book is absolutely amazing!!!! I was reluctant to start it, but last night at 1am I still couldn't sleep, so I decided to read the first couple chapters... Needless to say, I finally turned out the lights at 4am after reading the last sentence! If I'd had the next book, I'd have started it right away!

I'll have to wait a week or two for the next ones, but I can't wait!!

Meanwhile, I started Beastly by Alex Flinn in the car... looks like fun :-)

It was different than other historical time travel books but I really liked it.
Now I'm reading Mine Till Midnight. I haven't even started it yet but I love Lisa Kleypas so I know it will be good!

message 199: by Daffodil (new)

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 1058 comments I finally got out of my BLAH stage. Out of the six books I've been reading, I finally settled on George Shuman's Second Sight Second Sight A Novel of Psychic Suspense by George D. Shuman . It's not a romance, but the fourth book in a fascinating series about Sherry Moore, a woman who's been blind since the age of 5 due to head trauma. She can see the last 18 seconds of a dead person's memory by touching their hand.

I'll probably go back to Dead in the Family Dead in the Family (Sookie Stackhouse, #10) by Charlaine Harris next. I'm kind of surprised at myself. I usually finish Harris' books the night I buy them.

Of course I didn't get any reading done between 8 and 9 last night. I can't believe Sunday's the finale of Lost.

I liked it. It does go over how Clay and Jeremy got together and a couple of years before Clay met Elena. The last couple of chapters are about Jeremy and Jamie Vegas (awful name by the way) and how he feels about her and about who his mother is. It was good straight UF with just a slight hint of romance. I'm trying to get through the other books before I read Tales of the Otherworld because I heard there are short stories about other characters and I want to get up to speed.
