Chapter two offers a list of fifty things that you can do to make your business more eco-friendly. Many of them are incredibly easy—remembering to turn off lights, making recycling an encouraged option for employees, trying to become a more “paper-free” business—and some will take a little more time.

Having a plan is also something that is stressed. In order to make the most of this, or any, opportunity, you should create a comprehensive plan. You should know what you are going to implement tomorrow, next week, next month, next year. Creating specific and measurable goals will increase your ability and likelihood of achieving them.

Think about who is going to be working with you to green your business, and get prepared for a goal-setting meeting.

Which of the items from the list starting on page twenty will you implement tomorrow? This week? This year?

Hope Hyland | 29 comments Some of the things seem really easy, and I think that I may start those very soon. You don't really need those last couple of degrees out of your heater or air conditioning, and most computers, printers, copiers, and the like have power-saving controls which you can easily manipulate to avoid unnecessary energy usage. For a smaller business, changing all of the light bulbs is not the same sort of huge endeavor it might be for converting the lights of an entire office building (or several!). Likewise, installing water aerators is also easier when you only have a couple sinks. I had never even considered the concept of a water aerator—it makes me wonder how much water doesn’t even get on my hands while I wash them!

Shelby (shelbysanchez) | 52 comments I really would love to install solar panels on the roof of my house since I work from home. I live in sunny California and there are so many rebates, tax breaks and other incentives that encourage small businesses to make the change. My dreams of becoming more environmentally responsible really are not as expensive or as complicated as I thought.

It's definitely a mindset shift that needs to occur to ignite action. It starts with questioning "the same old same old." From there we can start taking steps toward transformative action.
