OK so I think we should stick with the "themes" of the month/season.

So please nominate for June. Of course the title can have "June" it in or the author can be a "June" of some sort.

OR

June is Brazilian month so something Brazilian perhaps? Author? Place?

OR

Wedding related.

Wow that's a hard one but it should be interesting.

The only things I could think of is Secret Daughter: A Mixed-Race Daughter and the Mother Who Gave Her Away by June Cross

OR

The Zahir by Paulo Coelho (this is also on my ABC chall.)

But I think I will stick to Scret Daughter.

Tracy | 71 comments I was thinking we would pick something with brides in it since June is the wedding month, so I am going to have to put my thinking cap back on :)

OK I added it.

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) Believe it or not, I have nothing in the June category. Although I do also have The Zahir by Paulo Coelho on my TBR, so I will nominate that one.

I just checked Amazon and it is not in PB yet. It is at 7 out of 12 of the libraries in town, and I hope that means that most libraries have a copy or two :)

The Devil in the White City Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair that Changed America by Erik Larson, which was a true story, too, but it read like a novel.

Also, I was thinking of choosing 2 winners for each month. Just to give people a choice. What do you guys think? OR should be just stick with the one and hopefully we all will get to read it..??

message 33: by Shelli (new)

Shelli Two might actually get more involvement....just a thought!

Irene (irena47) | 53 comments Wedlock: The True Story of the Disastrous Marriage and Remarkable Divorce of Mary Eleanor Bowes, Countess of Strathmore, is a 5* on Amazon, but only garners almost 4* on goodreads...just an observation.

I did not vote for my own nomination!

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) Irene - I almost never end up voting for my nomination!

message 36: by Irene (last edited May 18, 2010 09:40AM) (new)

Irene (irena47) | 53 comments Lyn - This book (mentioned above your comment) has piqued my curiosity!

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) Mine too!

message 38: by Colleen (new)

Colleen (nightoleander) | 676 comments The Starter Wife by Gigi Levangie Grazer The Starter Wife was cute and an easy read, I had to read it when to give my brain a break and it was good. Sorry, wanted to nominate something

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) Have you seen the TV show? If so, how did it compare?

message 40: by Donna, The Pusher (new)

Donna (dfiggz) | 3119 comments Mod
The poll is already up but I still added it just because u have been away far too long LOL

message 41: by Colleen (new)

Colleen (nightoleander) | 676 comments Whoops, sorry Donna but thanks for adding it!

Lyn, I did and there is a few differences but it stuck to the book fairly well. I loved the mini-series, hate to use this word again but it was very cute. I love how she picks herself up by her bra-straps and, as the book/movie says, "wife goes on".

I loved the min-series, too, Colleen. I thought Debra Messing was great in it.

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) So did I. I thought it was great. I think I am going to have to read the book.

message 44: by Colleen (new)

Colleen (nightoleander) | 676 comments It was a wonderful mental break from the Cromwell then Pot Pot then Caligula bio spree I stupidly went on.

Debra Messing was fantasic in the mini-series, I was glued to it when it first aired!

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) Ah, the sacrifices we make for our passions!

Kathy (readr4ever) | 300 comments Yay!

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) OOH, I will have to order The Zahir!

message 50: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 300 comments Donna, do I open up a thread and lead a discussion for Wedlock: The True Story of the Disastrous Marriage and Remarkable Divorce of Mary Eleanor Bowes, Countess of Strathmore, since I nominated it? I won't actually start reading it until this weekend or the first of next week, but I could still provide some links and background info if you want. Just let me know what I need to do or not do. Thanks.
