Amanda (randymandy) My ten-key. It's a Sharp Compet QS-2130. And I love it. I'm considering stealing it from my firm when I leave my job at the end of this month. It's got exactly the right size buttons; they're pretty large, but not 1980 wall swatch large. You know, just finger-sized large. It's 7.25" by 7" and it fits perfectly into my purse. That's right. It's travel-ready. It doesn't have a tape, so you can't actually print out your calculations, but I prefer it that way. Some of you might dislike that. But it works for me. The only down side is that some of the buttons are pink and purple. But I can live with that...

What about you guys? Anything you particularly like or dislike about your calculators?

message 2: by [deleted user] (new)

Gotta have the tape, Mandy luv! I've got a Canon MP25DV.

You know, you could just order one from Office Depot or something:

message 3: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (randymandy) The other thing is, it has this little plastic thingy on the back which is mounded on a hinge. If you flip the plastic thing out, it acts as a "stand" or something so the calculator can rest at an angle, making it more user-friendly...

I know. You don't have to say it. It's pretty fucking awesome.

message 4: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (randymandy) Yes! That's it, Amy! That's my good ol' Sharp Compet! Oh I love it so much. But 62 bucks? Bite me. (No, not you. The office store people.)

message 5: by [deleted user] (new)

I don't think I'm that attached to my 10 key, I appreciate it, but I don't think I like it as much as you like yours.

Have you ever read Inkheart? I started it yesterday and have a sneaking suspicion that I am in fact Aunt Elinor...YIKES!!

message 6: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (randymandy) I have not read it, Amy. I just added it to my To-Read list. I will now recommend to you Memory and Dream by Charles de Lint. I named my cat Copley after Isabelle Copley. I realize this makes me weird, but I don't care.

I'll run and grab you a link. Hang on.

message 7: by [deleted user] (new)

Okay, this might be a testimony to my "coolness", but what the hell is a 10-key? Is this some gadget for accountants?

I read Inkheart. Are you really Aunt Elinor? That's...disturbing. :) If you have a library like hers, I envy you.

message 8: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (randymandy) Memory and Dream
http://www.goodreads.com/search/searc...

I'm too lazy to do the fancy linky thingy

message 9: by [deleted user] (new)

Well, I'm not as old as Aunt Elinor, so give me time...

Mands, I name all of my animals after characters in whatever book I happen to be reading. The cat that stayed with the ex-husband was Daisy, I was reading Gatsby, Emma...obviously is Austin, Tas is short for Tasslehoff Burrfoot from the Dragonlance series by Hickman and Weis. I used to have two fish, Leo Tolstoy and Lewis Carroll.

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh, and I added Memory and Dream to my moleskine...

message 11: by [deleted user] (new)

I just added Memory and Dream to my to-read list.

You have a moleskine, too, Amelia? So do I! Large or small?

My cat is named Sylvie after Sylvia Plath. :)

message 12: by [deleted user] (new)

It's small, so I can carry it with me at all times. It has my "to get" list in the front (the ones "to read" on gr are one's I've already bought and have sitting there waiting for me.), the "I've read so far this year" list in the back (a couple of friends and I are doing the 52 books in '08 thing) and stuff I write in the middle. Damn limericks... You?

Plath, hmmm I asked for The Bell Jar for Christmas and got it, but I haven't read it yet. I like happy things, or at least things that end happy, so it scares me. That's pretty uncool huh? I'm not depressive enough...

message 13: by [deleted user] (new)

I've had large and small ones. I currently have a large one, and it's great for journaling. But I prefer the small ones for portability and quick note-taking. Whichever one I have, I usually journal in them, sometimes a little poetry. I also write down books I want to read, wines I want to try, and anything that strikes me that I want to remember. When I am reading a book and I find a quote I like, I dog-ear the page. When I'm done reading it, I go through and copy all the quotes down in my moleskine. Oh, and I make lists. Lots of lists.

Ah, Plath, she does have the power to depress. Try reading her journals some time. So brilliant, yet so insecure. And yes, VERY uncool to want a happy ending. The cool people like being tortured artists that scorn happiness.

message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

Nope, sorry, I want happy. I'm not a good little Goth girl I'm afraid.

Oh...you're a page bender...(note to self, never, ever, ever let shellbell touch your books!)

message 15: by [deleted user] (new)

I don't think there are good little goth girls out there.

Guilty as charged!!! I would never, ever bend a page of someone else's book, though. I only abuse my own.

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

ShellBell, I took pics of my babies...I'll make it my avatar tomorrow. (I have to wait until then to load the picture at work...I hate Vista!)

message 17: by [deleted user] (new)

Awesome. I can't wait to see.

Speaking of avatars, it's about time I changed mine or I'll lose my title of Queen of avatar changes (Amanda coined that one). That's me driving my dream car. If only it were mine!!!

message 18: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (randymandy) Gals, you're making me very jealous of all your technology. Jealous, I say. Now I gotta go google moleskine. :)

message 19: by [deleted user] (new)

Mich, these are the classics only, your Dickens, Austen, Elliot etc... alphabetized by author of course. They are all on the right hand side. (The Fat Man got his ass in the pic!)

I had to split it up, or you couldn't really see. There's another pic of the Sci/Fi, Fantasy, History, Art side... on the left. :)

My babies! (I'm not as cranky as Aunt Elinor...and I have big eyes.)

message 20: by [deleted user] (new)

Amanda, you go buy that moleskine yet? You definitely should!

My bookshelves are arranged by genre. Well, they were. I need to do some serious rearranging soon.

message 21: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (randymandy) I'm so confused... Is it electronic?

message 22: by [deleted user] (new)

Mandy, you're just screwin with me right? Do you really not know what a molekine is?

message 23: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (randymandy) Um... No.

*Hangs head in shame*

I'll go delete my membership now... Bye Bye Outhouse.

message 24: by [deleted user] (new)

Mandy girl...it's a journal, a specific, very cool journal:

http://www.moleskine.com/eng/_interni...

*Hugs Mands and pats her head*

message 25: by [deleted user] (new)

It's okay, Amanda, you rock, moleskine or no.

message 26: by Charissa (new)

Charissa (dakinigrl) moleskines are expensive!!! why do they make them expensive??? those bastards!!!

message 27: by [deleted user] (new)

I love mine, it's right next to me...

Jackie "the Librarian" Yeah, they are expensive, but they've got those cool elastic bands to keep them closed.

Wait, are moleskines TOO cool? For this group, I would think we'd be using our Trapper Keepers.

message 29: by Amanda (last edited Jul 01, 2008 01:16PM) (new)

Amanda (randymandy) I used to keep my babysitting business records in my Trapper Keeper. I started my own Babysitters Club when I was 10 or 11. Yep. Too cool. :/

Edit: Jackie, did you have one? What did it look like??? :)

message 30: by [deleted user] (last edited Jul 01, 2008 01:26PM) (new)

I love that I know what a Trapper Keeper is. Do they still make them?

Yes, moleskines are too cool. I love my moleskine. I stroke its glossy cover daily.

message 31: by [deleted user] (new)

I so loved school supply shopping!

Hell, I still love Office Depot, and my little nerd nephew loves it as much as me. Sometimes we just go and walk the isles and buy stuff, just because we like the look of it.

message 32: by [deleted user] (new)

Did that nerd me back up enough?

message 33: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (songgirl7) I'm already the nerdy old lady in my classes at the community college. But I think I'm also the nerdy one who brings a FRESH notebook, lots of sharpened pencils, a handful of pens, and 3 different colors of highlighter to class with me.

message 34: by Charissa (new)

Charissa (dakinigrl) I fucking love office supply stores. and hardward stores. and paper stores. and yarn stores. and bead stores. and....

oh sorry... got caught in a loop.

message 35: by [deleted user] (new)

I have a pen fetish. I compulsively buy them...looking for the perfect one. I have drawers full.

Jackie "the Librarian" I love pens! Whenever I find myself in a college bookstore, I end up buying some pens. And a mechanical pencil.

message 37: by Charissa (new)

Charissa (dakinigrl) mechanical pencils are SteamPunk. : )

message 38: by [deleted user] (new)

I only use mechanical pencils to write in my moleskine. It's soooo satisfying.

message 39: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (randymandy) What the hell is SteamPunk? Is that a real term or was it a GoodReads invention like on DFJ's air conditioner?

message 40: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony Office Supply stores are the best. I am so with you on this one. Just the way they smell...ahhhh...

Jackie "the Librarian" Steam Punk is a real, new term for Victorian era SF.

message 42: by Amanda (last edited Jul 01, 2008 01:47PM) (new)

Amanda (randymandy) Like Back to the Future III?
:)

Jackie "the Librarian" Like The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

message 45: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (randymandy) I'm going to start using it in sentences so I can make sure I memorize the definition. That's how I learned 'dirigible' by the way. (They talk about a dirigible in the wiki article. Sorry, it was sort of on topic...)

message 46: by [deleted user] (new)

I once watched Return to Me every single night for a month.

Jackie "the Librarian" Ko is here! Yay!

message 48: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (randymandy) Holy shit! That is cooooool, man!

Jackie "the Librarian" That is cool, Ko! The steampunk computer, I mean.

Rocks rawk!

message 50: by Charissa (new)

Charissa (dakinigrl) I made myself a steampunk/cyberpunk avatar. It's SteamPunk DakiniCharissa!
