I don't know if I'm COL nesting or if I'm stuck sitting down for a stretch at a time nursing so I have nothing better to do than clean house but I made a few small changes.

1) I combined the current group read chat with the past and future group chat. We no longer do the spoilers/chapter break downs/no spoilers with group reads and it seemed silly to have an entire folder for the current selection and the chunky read of the month. They are now all together in one folder. The current read's discussion will be *'d and will stay at the top of the folder along with the chunky read. After it's run then they will be released from their top spot and naturally move down the list, so you will still be able to discuss old reads and archives.

2) I combined the 2nd Chick aniversary discussions into Girl Talk. They had run their course but rather than get rid of them I just moved them to a folder that seemed appropriate. Yes, I do still plan to organize the recipe book, its just taking me a bit longer to get our schedule back on track than I thought (thank you summer break)

3) I'm seriously considering a folder devoted to personal reviews. It would be a folder where you could start a thread of reviews of your books. Example Tera's Reviews... and within it I would/could review books I've read authors I enjoy or books I didn't like. I think it would be fun but I need to hammer it out in my had as there would need to be some ground rules with it. (I worry about people reviewing other's reviews and mini turf wars breaking out) However, let me know maybe I'm the only one who might find that folder interesting.

Oh and Aug's poll is up so VOTE

Jennifer W | 2175 comments As always, thanks for everything you do around here, Tera.

Lots of good choices for August, it'll be interesting to see who wins.

Could the reviews folder go in with the Reading Goals and Challenges folder somehow? I know that myself and others who use that folder on a regular basis often put our reviews of the books as we read them. Perhaps that would get too crowded and complicated, so maybe not. If you created a new folder, I'd use it, so either way works for me! :)

Hope all is well with you!

SarahSaysRead I think a Reviews folder could be fun. There are plenty of times throughout many of these threads when we say "so and so, what did you think about (blank) book?", so why not have a place where we could follow along with reviews? I value the opinions of the women here, and sure it'd help me add to my to-read list :o)

I don't think that people would be too disrespectful in reviewing others reviews... we all know that we're entitled to our own opinions, and I don't see many people crossing that line. Healthy debates might even be welcome for some people.

Also, one of the reasons I don't use the Reading Goals and Challenges folder is because I have about 6 different challenges going on and don't feel like maintaining a folder for that. However posting reviews in my own little folder as I go along sounds a lot easier, and I always love to hear the thoughts of others on books I've read - sometimes a different perspective is really nice!

Anyways, just my 2 cents... I'm going to go check out that August poll!

And as always, thanks Tera for all the work you do here on CoL :o)

Ahtims (embeddedinbooks) | 4853 comments Review folder is a good idea. Thanks, Tera

AJ (anersword) | 121 comments How would the review folder work? Would it be different than listing a review on the book once you read it?

It would be cool if Goodreads architects could create a special view within a group that showed what members were currently reading or if you clicked on a book you could view the reviews of members of particular groups you belonged to...

Meg (megvt) | 3069 comments I love everything you do Tera!

I do have one request: do you think that you can send an announcement out for our chunky reads as you do for the regular reads of the month? People are asking because they miss what we are doing.

Our next chunky will be Atlas Shrugged. I am planning on it starting July 11th.

thank you for all you do and pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease some baby pics would be awesome!

message 8: by Holli (new)

Holli Meg, Goodreads is actually the one who sends out the announcement over email.... are you wanting that or a post within the group announcing the read?

:)

I'm able to send a broadcast message to all members. I just did that regarding Atlas Shrugged. I think it works the same way as the GR generated email. Atleast it said it was being sent to all members. Hope that helps meg. And www.daysofus.blogspot.com has some pictures up of my kidlets :) thanks for asking
T~

Jennifer W | 2175 comments I got the Atlas Shrugged message. The kids are just too cute, Tera!

message 11: by SarahSaysRead (new)

SarahSaysRead Meg, where are the chunky-read related posts? I got the above message about Atlas Shrugged, but where was the post for choosing the future reads, etc. I never did one of the chunky reads before but I wanted to look at it.

Meg maybe label your chunky read threads with the title and that its the chunky read. Does that make sense? Like "Chunky Read Group *Atlas Shrugged*" Doesn't have to be that but just something that lets everyone know this is the thread for the chunky read chicks.

message 13: by Meg (new)

Meg (megvt) | 3069 comments Tera, first off thank you for announcing Atlas Shrugged. Secondly, I am willing to do whatever you think will work.

Sarah, if you look at Cloudsplitters, that is our most recent chunky. We haven't picked another chunky beyond Atlast yet.

Bloomin’Chick (Jo) aka The Eclectic Spoonie (bloominchick) Thanks Tera! I think the group is nesting a bit as life seems to get quite busy off line at this time of year. I like the personal reviews idea.

I may have jumped the gun on a schedule but if you keep an eye out I know Meg will get one going by the begin date of 7/11

message 17: by Gina (new)

Gina Hi. I didn't get an email regarding Atlas Shrugged. Am I doing something wrong?

Check and make sure it didn't get filtered to a junk box because it is a sort of automated mailer.

Gina Thanks!
