I'm up for a real challenge!
1. Read a book with your Name (Tie in with http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/3...)
2. Read 2 books with the word "love" in the title
3. Read 2 authors with a colour as their surname example Holly Black
4. Read 2 books that were released in 2010
5. Read a book that was made into a movie OR television show.
6. Read a book by a author who's name and surname starts with the same letter, example Rick Riordan

2. Read 1 book by a South-African author.
3. Read 5 "next in the series" books released in
2010 (this one is sneaky, cause if anything is
released and I have not read the series, I can
read the books before that one first! Hehe).
4. Read 2 non-fiction books.
5. Read 5 non-vampire books (I'm binging at vampire
books at the moment, so this would be a real
challenge!)
6. Read a book that was made into a movie or
television show (thanks Lu!)

Mmm Sonette you are confusing me a little
Does nr 1 mean each person reads their name? OR yours?
Nr6 is the same as mine?

1. Read a book by a South African author
2. Start a new series (so read at least 2 books)
3. Read a book to learn something new (this can be fiction or non-fiction, eg. you could read a novel or a non-fiction work about Victorian England.) Emphasis on NEW - choose a topic you know little or nothing about.
4. Try a genre you normally avoid (I've tried this, and it can be really cool, especially if you 'swap' genres with someone else, and you chat about what you thought of each others books)
5. Read a random book - pick a book that you've never heard of, by an author you don't know of.
6. Read a book with an unusual narrator - a young child, an animal, an AI, a group narrator, etc. Vampires, werewolves, fairies, etc. DO NOT count.

Perhaps you could just pick 6 (or some other number) from the list? Or get a point for each one that you complete? Otherwise it could be very long.
My number 1: Read a book that's been on your shelf for a long time ("a long time" is relative, so just pick one of the unread books that's been on your shelf the longest).
I thought there might have been a misunderstanding :)
It does seem to be getting long lol. Maybe i should make it a year challenge?
What do you guys think?

If you pick a fixed number of steps to do, it'll be easier to complete the challenge by the end of the year. If you get a point for every step you complete, we can have rankings.

I see what you are saying Lauren :(
How about this. We Renominate. 5 each. We try and keep each nomination to 1 book if possible (some might require reading another book etc).
I hazard a guess in saying only 6 of us will nominate. So 30 books + the few that can't be avoided.
We might not be able to finish it, but we can give it a hard try! :)
We can also have ratings :)
Oh and you can only use a book in one category!
How does that sound? Or am i completely off the plot lol?

I think a challenge is better if you have a decent chance of finishing though, or you can accumulate points (as with the Read Your Name challenge).
I'll leave my 6 as is, and just take out the series one, as that involves 2 books.
This is a lot like my Random Reading Goals in the reading goals folder, but I guess I can just add any of these to that :)

Otherwise, I'm still in favour of a point system. It would also mean that there can be as many steps as you want, so you could extend the cut-off date and give more people a chance to add to the list.
Are there any rules for nomination? I think that the challenge should at least be applicable to anyone - something you can tailor to your own reading patterns. For example, don't make a Dan Brown challenge, or a sci fi challenge, because some people might not be interested in those things.
Im Loving this challenge, but I also think that it should be longer (a year perhaps) otherwise I don't think we would have enough time to get all the challenges done. It would also be very cool if we could make a score card that we could update as we go along just to make it interesting. My competetive nature is coming out :D
Ok agreed then, a year challenge and a points system :)
I hear what you are saying about the nominations being applicable to everyone. I'll keep a eye out, and at the end of the nominations if anyone thinks a nomination is too tailored and won't really work we can change it :)

Also just wondering about challenges like your number 5 challenge Lu - Read a book by an author who's name and surname starts with the same letter, example Rick Riordan. It's impossible to search for a book based on those criteria, so unless you already have something in mind, it could be really frustrating.
I was thinking about that too, I think when I post the final results I'll give a few suggestions by each one. And if anyone needs more help they can ask and we can pool our brains :)
I'm sure those Authors are out there... somewhere lol
Sound good?
I'm sure i'll need a little help coming up with a book to read by some of them aswell! I know Lauren (the other one lol) will think of some hard ones :P

I also agree with the Other (brighter :D) Lauren we should keep the challenges general so that everyone no matter their reading preferences can be included in the challenge.

We need to start thinking about the rules. For example can one book overlap and cover 2 challenges? I was thinking about reading The Book Thief which is narrated by death and set during the holocaust which would cover A book with an unusual narrator and learning something new ( about the holocaust) Or do we have to have 1 book per challenge?

I was also thinking about completing multiple challenges in one fell swoop :)

Oh come on! Its note cheating its bending the rules ;) That list is getting LONG! We have to do something or we will have to make it a 2 year challenge LOL

I should probably print a list of the challenges to take with...
Oh no I'm probably going to miss the sale :(
(going on a dig). But I'll probably just end up broke anyway lol

Oh great, their sale is one of my many weaknesses!
I'm a bit worried here. We only have 25 nominations. I would like to have atleast 30. Niecole, Emma you guys out there? This starts tomorrow and I just want everything set up by later tonight :(

1. Read a sports themed book.
2. Read 3 books with 2 elements on the front cover. E.g. The ocean and sky= water and air
3.Read 1 book with 2 types of animals on the cover
4. Read 1 book that has "his" or "her" in the title
5.Read 1 book from the Victorian era
Thank you so much Heather!
Your nominations are all I needed :) You are a star!
Nr 2 will just have to be 1 book, but other than that its perfect :)

How it works?
Each person can choose 5 "reading goals" they want to add. But you can only list your 5 until Monday afternoon (19th). I will then put everything together and tada we have a new challenge :)
Still a little confused?
Just have a look at the type of things others nominate and you can jump right in.
This challenge will last one year and start on the 20th this month.
Oh and please try and make it do-able. Not something like "read 50 books starting with the letter S".
Try and keep it to 1 book per nomination if possible. Also please try not to nominate something tailored to your needs: Read 2 Dan Brown books etc.
Have fun!
UPDATE: Only nominate 5. I'll have a update nominations list and just go from there :)
