Has anyone heard of Nightshade by Andrea Cremer? The book kept popping up on the side of my Goodreads screen so I finally clicked on it. This looks like a good werewolf series and the marketing campaign is awesome. To launch the book and series the author and publisher have created a Facebook page for one of the main characters, Shay. I've never heard of such a thing before and think the marketing campaign is brilliant. Also, they are having some sort of contest where a facebook page members who helps Shay solve some mysteries can get their name included in one of the books. Here is a link to the facebook page if you're interested:

It's times like this that I wish I was heir to a book store empire so I could get all the books I want whenever I want. :) If anyone has read this one let me know. I'd love to know if it lives up to all the hype.

Heather | 504 comments OK, will check out Borders as soon as I can find a coupon. Once I get it, I'll send it out and then I'll read it last. Trust me, I'm slow and as long as I have it, I can take my time..

Sashana Fans of Delirium can look forward to seeing this book on the big screen. Fox has just bought the movie rights. ABC Family has also decided to make The Lying Game into a TV show.

Rachel (treychel) | 1484 comments Oh wow. Crazy cool! Lets hope they don't screw up either too badly.

message 67: by Sashana (new)

Sashana The surprising thing is that these are only the first books in each series. Personally I think it's a bit premature. I wonder if the rest of the books will be affected by the show/movie.

message 68: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (treychel) | 1484 comments This is true. I don't know. Will be interesting to see what happens.

message 69: by Sashana (new)

Sashana It should be. Have you read any of the two, Rachel?

message 70: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (treychel) | 1484 comments No, I have not but I have heard good things. I have seen some of my students carrying them around also. If they will bring it to school and read without me having to stick their eyeballs to the page, it must be somewhat decent. :D

message 71: by Sashana (new)

Sashana Lol, it must be great. I'm starting Delirium on March 1st and I plan to do some class room reading myself.

That's so cool .. one of the first things I said and my Not-So-Bebe-Girl Autumn said when we finished this is that it would make a great movie!

well, that's something of a buzzkill.

Lisa S (kasey_k_fan) Yep, that's what I thought too.

message 78: by Alicia (new)

Alicia I think goodreads bought that site as an acquisition, meaning that they acquire the staff and customers from that site and bring them over to goodreads. It was a pre-existing site that goodreads bought out, not something new developed by goodreads. Looks like they are currently in the process of renovating the site, but I assume it will eventually be amalgamated with goodreads and hopefully bring with it a new recommendation feature, which will be awesome!

Sashana The role of Katniss from The Hunger Games has been given to Jennifer Lawrence. Check it out http://insidemovies.ew.com/2011/03/17...

message 83: by Sashana (new)

Sashana This is Jennifer Lawrence. What do you guys think? Have you ever seen her in a movie?

message 84: by Alicia (new)

Alicia I just looked her up on imdb and she is gorgeous! She doesn't really look how I pictured Katniss, but I'm sure she'll do a good job. And there is dye of course.. no reason to fixate on her hair colour since that can be fixed so easily, lol. I'm just excited about the movie period, I don't really get too caught up in who I want for the roles. Anyone seen her in anything? I don't think I've seen any of her movies..

message 85: by Sashana (new)

Sashana I agree with you about the makeup thing, Alicia. I don't care how she looks I just want to know how well she acts. I'd love to watch a movie which she stars in.

message 86: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (treychel) | 1484 comments I don't know. I'm torn on this one. I want to say yes, but something just isn't right. I agree...if she can act, then I could be sold.

message 87: by Sashana (new)

Sashana She didn't fit my mental image either, Rachel. But then again I didn't really have an actress in mind. She is an Oscar nominated actress so let's hope that she lives up to that.

message 88: by Laura (new)

Laura I'm randomly jumping into this discussion to say that Jennifer Lawrence can definitely act, so I'm excited. I saw Winter's Bone and I thought she was great even though I hated the movie (too many hillbillies for my taste). She's really tough and independent in it too, which is perfect for Katniss.

Although I had been hoping for Hailee Steinfeld, who was the perfect Katniss in my opinion, I'm happy they went with someone who has acting chops and not just a pretty face because it's based on a YA novel.

message 89: by Sashana (new)

Sashana I'be been hearing a lot of buzz about Amanda Hocking. I came across an interesting article about her. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/03... The headline is Amanda Hocking Signs Four-Book Deal With St. Martin's Press

message 90: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Very interesting. I've seen all the discussions amongst self-published authors about how she is an example of how awesome self-publishing is, but I think that's a bit misleading because Amanda Hocking's success is the exception rather than the rule. I've thought about adding her Trylle books to my TBR list a few times, but I've seen quite a few negative reviews that give me the impression that it's exactly the kind of paranormal romance book I tend to dislike. Good for her that she's got a book deal! Although it always makes me feel so bad about myself when I see all these authors who are only a couple years older than me, 23 or 24, selling tons of books. It always makes me notice how I've accomplished nothing, lol...

message 91: by Sashana (new)

Sashana ...but I think that's a bit misleading because Amanda Hocking's success is the exception rather than the rule.

I agree, Alicia. I'm stillcin awe of what she did. To go after your goals when the odds are against you...it's the American dream. I added Switched to my TBR. I don't know how soon I'll read it though. As far doing something amazing so young, the only thing I can say is that almost everyone who has achieved something extraordinary at our age had something in common: passion.

message 92: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Oh yeah, for sure, her passion and dedication are admirable and awesome, I just hate that it always makes me feel like such a slacker in comparison, haha. I'll get over it though, lol. :P

I guess what I was trying to saying regarding the self-publishing though is that, yeah, Amanda Hocking's success is fantastic and we should all be happy for her, but I don't really like how all these people keep saying stuff like "self-publishing has come so far and is eclipsing mainstream publishing! self-publish and you'll be like hocking and sell tons of books! etc etc" I find that kind of stuff misleading and exaggerating because although yes, self-publishing has greatly changed the world of authors, publishing and books, I don't think it's really gone that far yet, just because a select few have had commercial success. The vast majority of self-published authors still don't sell that well or get a lot of mainstream exposure.

message 93: by Sashana (new)

Sashana I've never met or had a conversation with someone who thought self publishing "eclipsed" mainstream publishing. That's just crazy talk. I definitely agree with you, (it's like you took the words out of my mind :) self publishing has a long way to go. People also fail to realize that the big name publishing houses sometime avoid self published authors.

message 94: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Yeah, I sometimes lurk around author groups and author blogs just out of curiousity, so that's where I've seen those discussions. I think most of it was actually in a group that was specifically for self-published authors, so not too surprising, lol.

message 95: by Sashana (new)

Sashana :D, Well if it motivates the self published authors then more power to them. I just hope they know that most authors don't ever make seven figures even if they're signed.

message 96: by Sashana (new)

Sashana Alicia, I found an interesting blog post about what we were talking about yesterday: http://blog.nathanbransford.com/2011/...

Jex (jexball) | 2227 comments Gale and Peeta have been cast for The Hunger Games

Gale will be played by Liam Hemsworth

Peeta will be played by Josh Hutcherson

I don't know how I feel about these two...

message 98: by Sashana (new)

Sashana I do...I love them both! I'm kind of excited about the cast, which is surprising since I had some reservations about the casting director.

Josh Hutcherson was great in Little Manhattan, Jessica. Have you ever seen it?

message 99: by Jex (new)

Jex (jexball) | 2227 comments I have not. I'll have to check out some of the movies these guys are in. For me I just don't really like the look of Josh for Peeta, but I'm ok with Liam for Gale.

message 100: by Sashana (new)

Sashana I think the good thing about Josh is that he has that sweet boy next door look (imo) that I always associated with Peeta (at the start of the series). Liam has that athletic body and beautiful bone structure so playing Gale should be a breeze for him.
