Rachel (treychel) | 1484 comments Cool! I am getting a little burnt out on angels, vampires, and werewolves in YA lit.

Rachel (treychel) | 1484 comments Ehhh. I don't know. I guess. Not how I see Katniss, but they never see them the way I do.

message 105: by Sashana (last edited May 18, 2011 06:49PM) (new)

Sashana I think she looks surprisingly good. She's lost the 'girly' glam thing but still manages to retain a certain softness. Let's see if she can act ;)

message 106: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (treychel) | 1484 comments Ha. Yeah, that's usually what they have a problem with!

message 107: by Lisarenee (new)

Lisarenee | 7659 comments Amazon over the July 4th weekend announced plans to acquire The Book Depository. Does this mean Kindles will be sold overseas?

message 108: by Sashana (new)

Sashana Aren't Kindles already sold overseas?

message 109: by Lisarenee (last edited Jul 07, 2011 06:15PM) (new)

Lisarenee | 7659 comments Someone commented on my blog that they weren't. Could it be just her country that didn't? I'm curious. Does anyone know for sure?

message 110: by Lina (new)

Lina I'm in Australia and I got a kindle from the Amazon store, no problem. The only issues I really have with it are publishing restrictions here so although I might be able to see all of Amazon's Kindle-ebooks, some of them will have a box that says "Not available for sale in your country"... this is usually only for some new release books. HTH

message 111: by Lisarenee (new)

Lisarenee | 7659 comments I wonder if that is why books aren't always released at the same time in every country? I know sometimes they'll change some of the terms/sayings between the US and Europe because we'd be scratching our heads wondering what they were talking about otherwise, but I can't imagine the changes would take all that long.

message 112: by Lina (new)

Lina Yeah kind of sucks when you're waiting for the next in a series and you read on forums like these how everyone overseas is loving that book, but what d'ye do?.. lol!

Most books are published in the UK first because they have the most restrictive copyright laws. Because of various international agreements, those laws are binding in many other countries.

About ebooks- no real idea why some books are available as ebooks in the UK but not here. I read a theory that there is less piracy of books there versus America. So, maybe that's why some authors are reluctant to release ebooks here.

message 114: by Sans (new)

Sans Kindle's are international now. The first two generations worked only in the US as far as book purchasing and wi-fi went, but now you can choose your country location.

Lisarenee | 7659 comments lol How are you doing Sans? You've been kind of quiet lately.

message 121: by Sans (new)

Sans Hey Lisarenee, I've missed you!

It's been one disaster after another at work. As you know, I've been supporting 5 people in 3 departments by myself for the last 6 months. It's finally gotten to be too much for me. HR has hit review season, Legal has several projects and more urgent ones crop up daily, and IR is picking up along with the international travel the partner I work for is doing.

I haven't been able to chat during the day and I'm so tired when I get home that I just can't face staring at another computer screen or concentrate on reading. At least interviews have picked up again to find someone to take over my HR & IR job, thank the stars. I just hope they get someone in here soon. I had a nervous breakdown last week and I'm heading toward another one already. >_<

message 122: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (treychel) | 1484 comments YAY! It's about time for Bitterblue. I'm going to have to reread Graceling and Fire. Not complaining though. They are worth rereading!

Sorry work is so crazy for you, Sans. I hope things get easier soon. We miss you!

Rachel (treychel) | 1484 comments Maria V. Snyder has a new book coming out January 1! Thought I would share for those of you who did not know.

Touch of Power (Healer, #1) by Maria V. Snyder

Edit: As Sans pointed out in message #124, the Kindle version is available on January 1, with paperback releasing on December 20. Thanks, Sans! :)

message 124: by Sans (new)

Sans What's interesting is the paperback is coming out on the 20th, but the Kindle edition isn't out until 1 January.

message 125: by Lisarenee (new)

Lisarenee | 7659 comments Rachel, I already have a review up for Ms. Shyder's book. *Smile* I loved it!

message 126: by Rachel (last edited Dec 07, 2011 08:40PM) (new)

Rachel (treychel) | 1484 comments Really, Sans? I didn't look into it that far. Oopsies. I will have to edit my post. Thanks. :)

That's a bummer for those who don't have kindles. I have one so I am good, but I don't find that fair for others.

message 127: by Sans (new)

Sans I meant 20 December is when the paperback comes out. I have to wait an extra 2 weeks. ^_^

message 128: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (treychel) | 1484 comments Lol! Edit #2. Hehe.

I have to wait too. boooo. :(

Sashana If you are a fan of the Song of Ice and Fire series (more popularly known as 'Game of Thrones') by George R.R. Martin then check out a chapter from book 6, The Winds of Winter, here!

I don't even know if I could read it because of that!

Jex (jexball) | 2227 comments I'm intrigued. I mostly just want to know what topic she chose to write about. You know it's going to be something completely different from Potter.

Rachel (treychel) | 1484 comments Jan Berenstain, co-author/creator of the Berenstain Bears books died yesterday. I think I just teared up a little. I've read soooo many of those!

A Voracious Reader (a.k.a. Carol) (avidreader68) What a bummer! I read those books when I was a kid and watched my kids read and love them. I think we have every single one.

A Voracious Reader (a.k.a. Carol) (avidreader68) Sashana wrote: "Article: J.K. Rowling has deal for new novel for adults"

Ralph asked me if I was going to read her book and I said it depends on if it sounds interesting. I'm not an automatic reader, just because I liked previous books doesn't mean I'll read any old thing an author puts out there.

The good thing is the article states that her son will continue the Berenstain legacy. I sure hope he does.

message 142: by Sashana (new)

Sashana My friends always accuse me of having no childhood. I've never heard of this man or his books so I guess this is yet another thing to add to the list.

message 143: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (treychel) | 1484 comments WHAT?! I can excuse everything else Sashana. But, NOT this one! Go to the children's section at your library and get to reading! LOL! There will no doubt be a whole row of these, maybe two.

A Voracious Reader (a.k.a. Carol) (avidreader68) I agree! Get thee to a library post haste! There's only something like 300 titles, but they're kids books so you can read them quickly. :D

message 145: by Vi (new)

Vi | 1758 comments Um, I've never heard of this man or books either. For that matter, the earliest children book I remember reading is Enid Blyton when I was 8-9 years old.

message 146: by Sashana (new)

Sashana I promise I will, Rachel. :)

Vi, I mostly read Nancy Drew, The Hardy Boys, The Baby Sitter's Club etc...

message 147: by Jex (new)

Jex (jexball) | 2227 comments I've heard of and even read a few Berenstein Bears books, but they were never really my thing. I kind of skipped children's books all together.

message 148: by ~Megan~ (new)

~Megan~ (megadee) Baby Sitter's Club!! Those were my favorites. I didn't do Nancy Drew....my Dad had old Trixie Belden books that I read instead.

message 149: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (treychel) | 1484 comments It was actually a married couple who authored the books. Her husband died first years ago...early 2000s and it has been just her authoring them since then.

message 150: by Jex (new)

Jex (jexball) | 2227 comments It's all about the Goosebumps. You people and your girly books :-P
