Good luck with your book. :)

Sans Thanks, Aimie!

Sarah Barnard (sarahbarnard) | 34 comments Hiya,
5 things? OK.
1. I taught myself to knit a couple of years ago.
2. I keep chickens, for the eggs, I could never eat the birds.
3. I started writing as the result of a dare and now have 3 titles in print.
4. I've run my own business for the last 7 years.
5. If you combine the Chinese and Western zodiac I get to be a Piscean Rooster - make of that what you will.
Looking forward to getting to know everyone, but after some sleep.
Sarah

message 104: by Sashana (new)

Sashana Sarah, what are your books? And what is your business? (Can you tell that I'm curious?)

message 105: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Barnard (sarahbarnard) | 34 comments Hi Sashana,
Curiosity is a wonderful thing.

My business is primarily selling eco friendly and natural products for use around the home and garden and can be found at: http://ethicstrading.com

My books are the Portal series, comprising The Portal Between and The Portal Sundered with a spin off written with kids in mind but still part of the series, The Map and the Stone. I have another book in the Portal series in progress and I suspect my writing journey is far from done.
Sarah

Lisarenee | 7659 comments Sarah wrote, "I started writing as the result of a dare and now have 3 titles in print"

So if the dare had never been made do you think you would have started writing?

message 107: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Barnard (sarahbarnard) | 34 comments I don't think I'd have ever finished that first book, and I don't think I'd have got it into print either. The dare was the kick up the backside that I needed.

Now, I don't think I could stop!

message 108: by Lisarenee (new)

Lisarenee | 7659 comments I hope you celebrated with the person who dared you when your 1st book got published.

message 109: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Barnard (sarahbarnard) | 34 comments We celebrate all sorts of things together, she's one of my best friends. And yes, we did have a little celebration when the book got finished and then when I saw the first printed copy.

message 110: by Heather (new)

Heather | 504 comments Hey Sarah, welcome to the list! I'm a rooster too! Taurus to boot..

message 111: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Barnard (sarahbarnard) | 34 comments Hi Heather!
But are you any good at Strutting your stuff and crowing about your achievements?

message 112: by Heather (new)

Heather | 504 comments Oh, oh, you just went there didn't you?? Oh yes, I am the Dawning rooster, I crow whether you want to hear me or not. Heh! I always strut Dear!! Hee-hee.. almost like John T. in Saturday Night Fever; except without the cheesy song which is now running around in my little brain..

message 113: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Barnard (sarahbarnard) | 34 comments Of course I went there, I had to, can't resist it...

message 114: by Heather (new)

Heather | 504 comments OH, I can tell Sarah that we will get along famously..

Heh-heh ... which depending on your thoughts very good or very bad.

message 115: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Barnard (sarahbarnard) | 34 comments Heather,
New friends are always welcome!

message 116: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 931 comments Nice to have you Sarah!

message 117: by Heather (new)

Heather | 504 comments Sarah, I have found in my life you can never have enough friends. The are more a blessing in good and bad times, and of course when you get drunk, are on your knees, throwing up and need someone to hold your hair up..

message 118: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Barnard (sarahbarnard) | 34 comments Ah Heather, I don't consume alcohol, my vice is chocolate and I don't do throwing up. But someone to hold your hand when things get rough is always good.

message 119: by Heather (new)

Heather | 504 comments Good for you! And I have short hair so no one has to hold it up. Chocolate is an excellent vice and it is nice to hold a hand or put a head on someone's shoulder..

message 120: by Sans (new)

Sans Heather, I have a feeling that you and I share the same kind of outlook on life. And sense of humor.

message 121: by Heather (new)

Heather | 504 comments OK, that's a scary thought for you, trust me. People tend to run screaming from me, once my ... true side comes out.. Heh-heh..

Angela (angieerickson) | 338 comments Here are Five Things You May Want To Know About Me (or maybe you don't):

1) My family is my top priority.
2) I have a tattoo of an angel on my shoulder.
3) I'm allergic to practically everything.
4) I believe God will only give me what I can handle.
5) I've been in bed sick since January 10th, 2010.

message 124: by Lisarenee (new)

Lisarenee | 7659 comments That is a long time to be sick, Angie. Sounds serious.

message 125: by Angela (new)

Angela (angieerickson) | 338 comments Lisarenee wrote: "That is a long time to be sick, Angie. Sounds serious."

Yeah, it sucks. I have Crohn's disease and have been throwing up everyday, along with a bunch of other nasty symptoms. Being in bed for so long caused its own problems, too. I go for infusions every few weeks and hopefully it will start to help. It's not all bad though, I get to read a lot of great books and chat with great people on Goodreads. ;)

message 126: by Lisarenee (new)

Lisarenee | 7659 comments My mom has lymphoma and before she was properly diagnosed they thought she might have had Crohn's disease. That is not a fun thing to have. I hope the treatments start to help. On the other hand, having more time to read books is a good thing. Welcome to our group. I look forward to getting to know you better and seeing what you're reading.

I love this quote by Mother Teresa. I think it really relates to #4. "I know God won't give me anything I can't handle, I just wish he didn't trust me so much." Everytime I hear that I think about how true it is! Ahhh!

Dear, Mhurder

Are you my bestfriend Jessica in disguise? I swear you said everything she would.

Riverina Romantics (riverinaromantics) Hi Guys,
I wish i would have found this website earlier so i could participate in this years challenges, but i dont think i will get to 100.
Things you may want to know.

1. I'm a very happily married mother of 2 high maintenance boys (18 months & 4 years)
2. I work part-time for the best boss ever and also run my own website www.countryweddings.com.au
3. I cant wait until my kids get to school so i can finally have some "me" time and maybe start some writing.
4. I am a perfectionist and cant stand disappointing people.
5. I get lulled to sleep at night by fantasising about the characters in the books i am reading.

message 132: by Lisarenee (new)

Lisarenee | 7659 comments Hi Jodie. Welcome to the group. I can understand wanting the "me" time. We have plenty of challenges you can participate in now that aren't as big as our Serious Reader's Challenge. I look forward to seeing what your read. You can always list your books in the Reading Log section.

message 133: by Heather (new)

Heather | 504 comments Welcome Jodie! Ohhh, you will love us and just think of all the time you have to make up for not being here..

Riverina Romantics (riverinaromantics) I already do Heather!! I spent an extra 30 minutes at work putting this years reading list on your first challenge topic.
I wish i could spend all day on here - but alas, the children need to eat.

message 135: by Sashana (new)

Sashana Lol, Jodie. Welcome to the group.

message 136: by Melanie (last edited Oct 06, 2010 04:14PM) (new)

Melanie (melaina) | 287 comments Hey y'all:-) Hmmm... 5 things, huh?

1. I'm half French, half American (NM), born in Paris but living in Switzerland for the past 18 yrs (and moving to the US hopefully in Jan)..

2. I have a terrible temper (hereditary, lol), but only with people who know me well: otherwise, I'm a master in hiding my emotions.. Martial arts and a punching bag help keep me calm, lol

3. I want to be a prosecutor in the US and eventually join an agency/government organization against human trafficking

4. My boyfriend of 4 years is a twin, Swiss and Italian, and won't be moving with me to the US (mini panic attacks are common these days, lol)

5.I speak five languages (three of them fluently) and have travelled a lot. However, I've never been to Australia (dying to go there!), New Zealand (there too, lol!), or South America.. And one of my favorite places in the world is the Serengeti plains in Tanzania (I also learned some Swahili there:-p).

message 137: by Lisarenee (new)

Lisarenee | 7659 comments Hi Melanie, Sorry you can't take your boyfriend with you. That must be traumatic. I'm envious of your language skills. So are the languages you speak fluently English, French, and German? Questioning the German.

message 138: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (melaina) | 287 comments English, French and Italian:-) But then I'm pretty good in German and Spanish (I need a couple hours/a day in the country before accessing the language properly, lol)..

I'm upset about leaving my bf behind, but he promised to visit every two months:-) And knowing my folks, I'll be flying back every other month for a couple days as well:-)

message 139: by Heather (new)

Heather | 504 comments Jodie, Jodie, Jodie, come on now, the children can go a little while longer without eating. If my cat can do that, then your children can..

Wait? Why is everyone looking at me like that??

message 140: by Sashana (new)

Sashana Lol, Heather. I'm not sure the police would see it that way.

Hey Melanie! Welcome.

Riverina Romantics (riverinaromantics) Now now guys, dont be too harsh on me, there is only a certain amount of time that you can lock your kids in their bedrooms everyday.....JOKING! Unfortunately, I only get reading time when the kids go to bed at night and maybe sometimes during the day if they sleep. Bring on school time i tell ya.

Melanie, you havent been to Australia?? Come on down! Its perfect here, you will love it.

message 143: by Heather (new)

Heather | 504 comments Jodie, very true, very true but just think of the peace and quiet you have, heh-heh. J/K!

Melanie, where in NM are you from? Oh yeah, welcome!

message 144: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (melaina) | 287 comments Thx for the welcomes:-)

Jodie - I would love to go to Australia! As soon as I have a free month in the winter I am definitely coming down:-)

Heather - My mom is from Albuquerque, but since my grandma passed away last year, I haven't been back yet.. Yet another place I'll be going when I have time!

message 145: by Heather (new)

Heather | 504 comments Ahh, that's the place where my old man left us. I was born in Santa Fe. Was only there one time and that was for a lay over..

message 146: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (melaina) | 287 comments Santa Fe is gorgeous! A lot more beautiful than Albuquerque! (except for maybe the historic downtown).. Did you live there long?

message 147: by Heather (new)

Heather | 504 comments LOL, I told someone the only thing I remember is a blur since I only weeks old. They shortly left Santa Fe after I was born so I think I was about 4 weeks, give or take. I was 6 weeks when the old man left us.

message 148: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (melaina) | 287 comments I'm sorry...
You should try stopping by again, it's stunning, and the opera house outside Santa Fe is amazing (if you're into that sort of music that is, lol)

message 149: by Heather (new)

Heather | 504 comments Oh don't be sorry! Truly, I'm not and either is my Mom.

I know I should and hopefully I will..

Elise-Pinterest+Goodreads=The Perfect Book Boyfriend (eliselovesshinyandnew) | 7 comments 1. I have ADD (I take Adderall twice a day), so if I forget that I wrote this about myself and write it again, forgive me LOL!!

2. I am a pediatric nurse, married to a police officer and we have 3 kids.

3. I love to read and own a Kindle, her name is Ms. Priss-I had two previous Kindles that died and they were both named Precious because the family said I behaved like Gollum from LOTR about them. I have a "fake" book on my Kindle. Usually something classic and smarty pants like "Catcher in the Rye". That way when someone wants to see it (and they always do) I look really intelligent and worldly. When in actuality, I am reading what my husband calls vampire porn.

4. I love to write, however, I only do it for my own enjoyment and at this time I have no time or desire to publish. It's my way of letting off steam.

5. I have NO sense of direction. The greatest thing in the world for me was when I got the talking GPS on my iPhone.
