Heather | 504 comments Carol, I only saw Duran Duran in concert! That was enough for me, I had died and gone to heaven..

A Voracious Reader (a.k.a. Carol) (avidreader68) Heather - I've seen Aerosmith twice and I've also seen: Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones, Whitesnake, George Strait, ummm...I'm missing somebody and I can't think who. No, it wasn't the Who. :D I also saw Sam Kinison in concert, in the middle of a blizzard in Cleveland. I believe that was 1986. Oh! It was the Damn Yankees. Phew! Stupid age getting in the way of my memories.

The Rolling Stones are pretty awesome. Ypure really lucky :)

message 204: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 931 comments I haven't seen many great concerts... Cyndi Laupert, Beatlemania, Dave Matthews Band, and The Carter Twins. Out of those DMB was definatly rhe beat.

message 205: by Lisa S (new)

Lisa S (kasey_k_fan) I've seen Aerosmith, David Lee Roth, 3 Doors Down, & 38 Special. I may have seen more, I just don't remember. I would love to see Knickleback.

message 206: by Heather (new)

Heather | 504 comments Lauren, who are The Carter Twins? Never heard of them. What are some of their songs?

message 207: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 931 comments Haha :) They are a country group. Two twin brothers (very hot,) and about 18 or 19 I believe. They are fairly new... Country isn't really my thing but it was a good concert. My friends family has a raido station so we got to help and throw out frisbees, cup-holders, etc. Haha :)

message 208: by Heather (new)

Heather | 504 comments Got ya! There are some country songs that I like. Listen to mainly rock and pop..

Who is your favorite singer/group?

message 210: by Sans (new)

Sans Horning in on the conversation here, but if you'd like to try some Brit country rock, I strongly suggest Mumford & Sons. They're not country, more an acoustic rock band with a banjo if that makes sense. I'm not a country fan (though I don't dislike it) and Mumford is one of my favourite bands.

http://www.myspace.com/mumfordandsons...

My fave songs are White Blank Page, Little Lion Man, Sigh No More, The Cave and Roll Away Your Stone.

message 211: by Heather (new)

Heather | 504 comments Lauren, way too many and it is actually songs I like. My Mom got me hooked onto XM Radio so I listen to Pop2K, 80's and The Blend. Basically 80's stuff, and from 2000-2009.

A Voracious Reader (a.k.a. Carol) (avidreader68) <---is an 80s rock person.

I am a big fan of (80s rock right?) The Police, Billy Joel, Tom Petty :)

message 215: by Lisa S (new)

Lisa S (kasey_k_fan) I think a lot of us are big fans of 80"s rock. Myself included.

message 216: by Heather (new)

Heather | 504 comments See, that's what makes us have great taste..

Great music. Period..

message 217: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Reeves (barefootdokusha) | 0 comments hmmmm.....I think I basically covered everything in my last 2 posts! haha

#1: I have become addicted to this website! If I'm not reading, I'm on here looking for books, checking out boards....
#2: I can't wait to have my backpiece done. It will be a Japanese-themed one. I have 1 koi on my lower right side on my back. In a couple of weeks I'll add the water...maybe another koi....a few months down the road I'll add more. Piece by piece.
#3: I love to try new recipes....that my son nor my ex will eat.
#4: I have an unusual living arrangement: Me, my son, my ex (son's dad - haven't been together in 6 years and just started living together 1.5 years ago), and my ex's 2 other kids (my son's half brothers, but when I talk about the kids I just refer to them as mine...much less confusing for everyone).
#5: I have a clutzy boxer. He's 9 months old. In the 7 months that we have had him he has fell off the bed numerous time, fell off the -raised - porch twice, got completely tangled up in the kids' soccer net (he would have died if we hadn't noticed), ran into various objects in the house.....

message 218: by Rachel (last edited Feb 13, 2011 04:14AM) (new)

Rachel (treychel) | 1484 comments Very intersting living indeed. But, hey, if it works who cares. I would do it.

Awwww. Your dog sounds cute and hilarious. I loled at the description, but not the net part! He seems to keep yall entertained!

Yes, it is addictive. Hope to see you around the boards and in challenges. They are really fun and everyone is so cool here. Welcome!

message 219: by Sashana (new)

Sashana Welcome to the group, Jennifer. You certainly have an interesting life.

message 220: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Reeves (barefootdokusha) | 0 comments I definately don't have an uneventful life! Something is always happening around here between the kids and the pets! As we speak I have one kid sitting on my bed, and one in their room on his bed. Couldn't trust them to stay on their beds in their room. Have to get more creative when all 3 kids are here. The youngest 2 (3 & 5)we can't trust being together. The youngest we just can't trust at all. He gets into everything. He found a bag of quarters from our paper route. Hid them. We couldn't find them for almost 2 months. They have been in whiteout. Has it all over their head. Had to cut hair then! Currently can't find their grandparent's Nintendo DS (they wont' say where they put it).

message 221: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Dizon (sarahd828) | 380 comments 1. I am addicted to Goodreads and I would have no idea what to do with myself with out it.
2. I love Chai Tea!! Especially Chai Tea Frappucinos from Starbucks.
3. Before I was an English major I was a nursing major and then public relations major.
4. I want to travel all over Europe but mostly Scotland (to find Jamie Fraser), England, and Ireland.
5. I want to have my dream wedding topped off with a princess dress and a tiara.

message 222: by Sans (new)

Sans Scotland is AWESOME. I'm hoping to one day quit my job and go to uni there. I need to get some degrees under my belt.

Sarah Dizon (sarahd828) | 380 comments Sans wrote: "Scotland is AWESOME. I'm hoping to one day quit my job and go to uni there. I need to get some degrees under my belt."

I was thinking of doing Grad school there but it's really expensive!

message 224: by Sans (new)

Sans I know. There are actually several programs for financial aide for American students though.

I got my AA but have been working full time since I graduated high school. My folks spent all their money putting my brother through school, buying him a car and a house when he got married. Nothing left for Sans to follow her dreams. Just call me Campari.

message 225: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Elder (lauloreads) | 8 comments I live in Scotland...you don't wanna come it rains a lot we just had about all weather seasons you could imagine in one day the other day...It started off nice and sunny went dull, rained, then hail then gail force winds then snow then back again. Strange place!! (I live about 30mins from Edinburgh). We managed to reach -23 in December!

message 226: by Lisarenee (new)

Lisarenee | 7659 comments Hi Lauren. So when is the best time of the year to visit Scotland? December sounds really cold.

Hi Lisa

There is no good time really but I guess I would say July. lol. Still bring your raincoat and wellies!!

Sans Lauren wrote: "I live in Scotland...you don't wanna come it rains a lot we just had about all weather seasons you could imagine in one day the other day...It started off nice and sunny went dull, rained, then hai..."

Ahh, see I love that weather (sunlight gives me migraines too easily and California is FAR too sunny for me). I've visited Edinburgh in May and in late November and I had a blast. I can see how living there might be different.

message 229: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (treychel) | 1484 comments Sans- The sun gives me migraines too. Usually with sun comes heat and heat makes me tremendously irritable. I really need to move some where cloudy. You coming with me?

message 230: by Sans (new)

Sans Absolutely. I lived in Seattle and Redmond for a while, that was nice. Well, except during Indian summer. That was just brutal.

message 231: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (treychel) | 1484 comments Seattle is on of the top 5 places on my list to live in. Perhaps one day! It's an Indian summer in west Texas just about year 'round!

message 232: by Sashana (new)

Sashana I would love to live in Seattle but the distance from all of my friends and the weather would be a killer.

message 233: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Elder (lauloreads) | 8 comments Yeah I don't actually like the sun either...lol! Guess I just like a good moan lol! TBH I probably would moan wherever I lived. I love a good moan so I do. I stay about 30mins car/train ride away from Edinburgh. It's got some nice places/buildings i'm a bit of a dork that way lol!

message 234: by Gayle (new)

Gayle (gretarahikkainen) | 125 comments 5 things about me:

1 - I've been married to my best friend for almost 25 years
2 - I have 2 beautiful daughters. Elder daughter will be getting married in August.
3 - I do a lot of hand-craft items (crochet, needle-tatting, lucet work, counted cross-stitch, etc.)
4 - I'm the baker of the family (including extended family)
5 - I participate in medieval re-enactment.

message 235: by whimsicalmeerkat (new)

whimsicalmeerkat ~ absurdly enough and for no good reason, my middle name is Markieta
~ I am planning to sell most of my physical books because I am moving; my feelings are mixed
~ I absolutely love the rain
~ I have an absurd makeup habit
~ I play World of Warcraft, as well as other games, and that is how I met my boyfriend

message 236: by Sans (new)

Sans Lovely, another rain worshipper!

Medieval re-enactment sounds fun!

message 237: by Shadow Jubilee (last edited Mar 30, 2011 02:20AM) (new)

Shadow Jubilee (uhqs) @Oddrun: lol at #5. :D Great excuse for Kindle! I'm saving that for future use. lol.

1. I would love to travel, live in different countries for a couple of years, learn the culture and language.
2. I have a dream to build my own home in a secluded location in the mountains, to grow my own food and fruit trees, to learn to can and preserve, maybe to keep bees (love honey!), to raise egg-laying hens, and to foster pets (dog, cat, rabbits).
3. I keep meaning to learn things. I will buy books on them. Then I never get around to it. Happened with PHP, knitting, photography, gardening, etc. I did manage to get around to cooking and baking a bit but don't do either of them much these days. The former because I'm usually out of the house for nearly the whole day 6 out of 7 days, and the latter because last year I gained weight from all the baked sweets. >__<
4. I enjoy learning but I don't like studying.
5. I collect The Little Prince in different languages: French, German, Greek, Korean. I think I have Spanish too. I mean to pick up Latin soon.

message 238: by Sashana (new)

Sashana I almost missed you with the new profile picture there, niquae.

message 239: by Lily (new)

Lily (lilithesque) 1 I am 47 with two daughters and three grandchildren. I raise my oldest Grandchild, who is 13.

2. I am Hunkpapa Lakota and Live in Denver CO

I have been an avid reader all my life, particularly focused on Sci fi, Fantasy and Urban Fantasy as of the past 7-8 years. I love poliictal reading also.

3. I have absolutely no tatoos, but may get a lily before its all said and done.

4. I like crafting, but don't do it as much as Id like. When I do, I sew quilts, shawls and like painting or refinishing furniture.

5. I love "reading challenges" even though I may not get all the books read on my list, I love trying to pick books from my tbr pile or list for challenges. It's like a puzzle just picking them out. I do sometimes finish though. It depends on the chaos of my life.

message 240: by Kristina (new)

Kristina (kristinalawhead) Lily - I feel the exact same way about your #5! It's almost more fun to plan them out than it is reading them :)

message 241: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (treychel) | 1484 comments I agree with you, Lily and Kristina. I love fitting books into a spot, but it sure does make me sad when I don't finish the challenge on time!

Lily, I got my first tattoo the night I turned 18. A heart with wings on my foot. I now have three. A flaming eye on my left foot (Alex grey art work), and I phoenix on my right calf. I want more but have not figured out what yet. I definitely am not a compulsion tattooer. However, I do feel the addiction of them. Just a warning!

message 242: by whimsicalmeerkat (new)

whimsicalmeerkat I got one at 18 and 2 more at 27. The first was a celtic knot in the middle of my back. The other two are the word "logos" and the word "sophia" on the inside of each foot. So, knowledge & wisdom, basically. My mom told me having a tattoo that says wisdom is an oxymoron.

A Voracious Reader (a.k.a. Carol) (avidreader68) @niquae ~ I'm right there with you on #2 with the home being a green home, of course.

I have 3 tattoos: a unicorn inside a heart (my own drawing) on my left breast, a butterfly on my left wrist and a heart with a flower on my left ankle. Hmmm...what's with the left side theme? Not sure why I did that. It's been about 23 years since I got them. lol I would like to change the one on my ankle...maybe I'll get around to it someday.

message 244: by Sashana (new)

Sashana My tattoo inspiration is Rhianna. She has a million tats and you'd never know! I want a bunch of little ones all over my body, starting with one on my inner wrist. Too bad I'm a punk.

Welcome to the group, Lily!

message 245: by Sans (last edited Apr 04, 2011 10:51PM) (new)

Sans Rachel, I'd love to see a picture of your phoenix some day. I'm debating what I should get to fill in the rest of of my back.

Welcome everyone!

message 246: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (treychel) | 1484 comments Okey dokey. I will definitely post a picture of it. It has a tribal wrapped around it and as I have gotten older doesn't look as graceful and girly as I once thought, but I still love it. :)

message 247: by Jenn T Rogers (new)

Jenn T Rogers I'm new so I'll say hello.
1. I teach high school theater so I have no life.
2. I have 7 kids, all of the 4 legged variety. (3 dogs, 4 cats)
3. I can sew about anything given the time. I love to quilt and make purses.
4. My husband and I take one weekend a year to go to the wiener dog races! We never win but the dogs love it and we have tons of fun!
5. My favorite all time book is The Black Stallion. So many great memories.

And since you guys have been talking tattoos, my husband and I have a deal. I have 3 tattoos that I want and I know I need to lose weight (my words, not his) he will go with me to get a tattoo for every milestone I make while I diet. Weird? I'm excited!

message 248: by Sans (new)

Sans Hi Jennifer! I'm waiting to get any more tats until I lose weight myself. What designs are you planning on? Welcome to the group!

message 249: by Jenn T Rogers (new)

Jenn T Rogers Sans wrote: "Hi Jennifer! I'm waiting to get any more tats until I lose weight myself. What designs are you planning on? Welcome to the group!"

Thanks! I want to get some variation of "To thine own self be true" (more or less of the monologue) on my arm, a rabbit (going back and forth on the design, it's a long story) for my mom who passed 5 years ago, and a broom and hat symbol from the musical Wicked. It's complicated, I know but they each mean a lot to me!

message 250: by Sans (new)

Sans Tats should always mean something to you and it shouldn't matter what anyone else thinks. Er, as long as you don't end up on on Ugliest Tattoos website....
