This is very true. I read them years ago (and follow them as he publishes them now) and am "rereading" them in order via the cd player in my car!

message 3: by Ceinwin (new)

Ceinwin I completely agree with you. I'm a fan of the Harry Bosch series. Harry is a strong character and Connelly manages to create great atmospheres in each of his books.

message 4: by Sam (new)

Sam | 3 comments I agree Nancy, everytime a new Harry Bosch novel is released I re-read the entire series!!

Ceinwin, the atmosphere created is amazing! I find each and every book an amazing read that I can not put down!

message 5: by Dorie (new)

Dorie (dorieann) | 464 comments I agree with all of you. Michael Connelly is my favorite crime fiction author. I've read a lot of crime fiction so that is saying a lot. Speaking of the atmosphere he creates, did anyone else get the bonus DVD he did some years ago? He toured L.A. and some of the spots mentioned in his books. It was fascinating. It's probably posted on Youtube somewhere by now. And I have the bonus music CD that was put out as well. I love how he thinks of his fans.

He might be my favorite American crime fiction writer -- I tend to read international crime writers.

I've read In the Woods, but have a couple of others sitting here just waiting to be read. I liked In the Woods, actually!

I love what she does with words and her characters. Most people prefer her second and third book, but "In the Woods" is on my tops list!

message 10: by 4cats (new)

4cats (fourcats) love Michael Connelly, and i can't wait for the reversal to hit the shelves. There are so many great crime writers out there, to many to read and discover. Has anyone read Arnaldur Indridason, I really love his style.

I have moved The Black Echo up to the top of my to be read list. I've had a copy for some time but now I really must read it.

message 12: by Sam (new)

Sam | 3 comments The Black Echo is a great book! Michael Connelly is my favourite author full stop!

I could read and re-read all of his books! (although I actually have done this quite a few times!)

I also really like John Connolly, his books are very dark and atmospheric! Has anyone else read any of his books?

message 13: by Jan C (new)

Jan C (woeisme) | 39208 comments I like Michael Connolly too. Been to a couple of readings when he was in the area.

I, too, have both the cd and the dvd (I also went to high school with Bill Peterson who does the reading on the dvd).

I started with The Poet and read forward from there. Only recently have I gone back to the beginning - The Concrete Blonde, The Black Ice and The Black Echo. Will be going to The Last Coyote when I can remember where it is.

I have too many books.

message 14: by 4cats (new)

4cats (fourcats) would love to attend a connelly reading

message 15: by James (new)

James Thane (jameslthane) | 123 comments I agree that these books are addictive. I discovered Connelly with The Black Echo and have read every book since at least a couple of times. This is one of those series where the books seem to get even better as the series progresses.

The "other" Connoly's Charlie Parker series is quite good Sam. I like the supernatural aspect he brings into his stories.

But, the Bosch series is in my top 3 series.

message 17: by Curlyhair (new)

Curlyhair | 187 comments Michael Connelly is one of my fav authors. I love the way he intermingles all his characters of which I like them all - Harry Bosch being my fav. I'm making my way through his books in order and The Narrows will be my next one.

message 18: by Jaime (new)

Jaime (janastasiow) | 16 comments I love him too, and being from the LA area it makes it really interesting. My first one was Echo Park, and after that I read the first 6 in order.

message 19: by Gary (new)

Gary Proctor I got turned onto Michael of few months ago and tore through all his book with a couple of exceptions. I am very partial though to his Bosh books and even though I like the Haller stuff, I really miss Harry! Does anyone know if Michael has said anything about more Bosch centric books?

message 20: by Michael (new)

Michael Wallace One thing I like about Connelly is that he is dependable. I know that sounds silly, but I really started reading these books when I was overseas or in airports with limited book selections. I read a couple and knew they would always be good reads and so they became favorite travel books.

Instead of a group read for Dec/Jan we did a featured author and Michael Connelly was that author. You can check out the conversation at http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/4...

Tay | 261 comments Es135 wrote: "I just got the first 3 novels in the Lincoln Lawyer series!. Is it worth the read?"

The Lincoln Lawyer is very good book. The Reversal was just okay. Brass Verdict is really really good. Fifth Witness is above average.

Roger Leonhardt (pudgyboy) Es135 wrote: "I just got the first 3 novels in the Lincoln Lawyer series!. Is it worth the read?"

I just finished "Lincoln Lawyer". I normally dislike lawyer novels but this one was great. It kept me going from the first chapter. I haven't seen the movie but I felt I was watching one as I read the book. I am starting the second one tonight.

message 27: by James (new)

James Thane (jameslthane) | 123 comments If you liked "lincoln Lawyer," you might also like John Lescroat's Dismas Hardy series, which begins with "Dead Irish." It's my favorite lawyer series.

message 28: by Linda (new)

Linda Boyd (boydlinda95gmailcom) | 335 comments Ohhh, I love lawyer books, how many are in the Dismas Hardy series???

message 29: by James (new)

James Thane (jameslthane) | 123 comments There's about fifteen of them, so if you like great lawyer novels, you're in for a treat!

message 30: by Dorie (new)

Dorie (dorieann) | 464 comments Thanks for the recommendation James. It's hard to find good lawyer novels. I've put the first on my list to get.

Linda Boyd (boydlinda95gmailcom) | 335 comments Thank you James, I am adding this author to my list.

message 33: by Ruth (new)

Ruth Donald (redonald) | 64 comments I'm another Michael Connelly fan. I always watch for his latest to come out. Now I've got a Kindle, so I downloaded The Reversal and have started reading it, but I have another book I'm trying to finish first (Devil in the White City).

BTW, I find John Lescroart's novels appeal to me in the same way as MC's; the characters seem like real people to me, and the plots are complex and well thought out.

I agree. I really like the way Lescroart's characters have evolved over time.

Nikki Just recently discovered Michael Connelly.
Reading Harry Bosch now. Up to Trunk Music. I am enjoying this series more than I thought I would.

message 39: by Vikki (last edited Jan 22, 2015 05:18PM) (new)

Vikki (silverstarz) | 27 comments I love his books too. I started with the Linoln Lawyer series though. Spotted it in the shop and thought it would appeal to me. I then started on the Harry Bosch series which I'm still working my way through. Next on my list is Lost Light and I already have most of the other books in the series on my shelves.

message 40: by David (new)

David Freas (quillracer) | 2961 comments He has several stand-alone novels that are just as good and a non-fiction book about his years as a crime reporter and how it contributed to his writing.

message 41: by Skye (new)

Skye | 2105 comments Yes, Chasing the Dime.

message 42: by Nikki (new)

Nikki I'm up to book 7 in Harry Bosch. "A Darkness More Than Light"
A Darkness More Than Night (Harry Bosch, #7; Terry McCaleb, #2) by Michael Connelly

Should I read Terry McCaleb book 1 first?
Blood Work (Terry McCaleb, #1) by Michael Connelly

message 45: by Michael (new)

Michael Scott (mallanscott) As a long-time Michael Connelly fan (having read most, if not all of his work) I'm looking forward to the new Bosch on Amazon streaming video. I enjoyed the pilot and hoped they would develop it into a series, which is now moving forward.

message 46: by Skye (new)

Skye | 2105 comments Michael; I haven't heard about this, and he is, without a doubt, my favorite writer.
