Dee what do you think of Pleasures? I read it a year ago and liked it except the ending. Most others I know thought it was too over the top but then..well I enjoy the wicked side of things

Working on my Autumn challenge. Finished Nora Roberts Irish Rebel and started All Through the Night by Mary Higgins Clark. Will search out a book with Autumn in the title.

Ashley (ashleylaura87) | 444 comments I had an epic fail month and only finished one book! I read The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins and am now reading Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins .

message 304: by Ann (new)

Ann (annabell123) I am just starting The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud, and finally got Wicked Lovely from the library, which will fulfill the Pick it for me Challenge! If I start anything else this weekend, I will probably pick Lady of Milkweed Manor or Murder at Mansfield Park

D.G. | 4477 comments I just started a book where the heroine owns a knitting shop. The author used this phrase several times - 'blocking a shawl' - but never described what that meant so I had Google it. I'm tempted to dnf it just because of that...

If you're not a knitter/crocheter, you wouldn't know what blocking a shawl means. Most knitted/crocheted things are blocked when they're done. If the author is heavy on the knitting terms but you don't knit, I can see why it would throw you out of the story. Having to look up a lot of terms would be a major annoyance.

message 311: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments i've vaguely heard of blocking a shawl, but nothing recently...ditto with blocking a quilt, but if i didn't have a vague idea it would probably pull me out of the book as well!

i finished up Caressed By Ice (Psy-Changeling, #3) by Nalini Singh last night...i think Judd is one of my favorites so far...and I just got recommended book 4 in the PIFM for next month (and it fits in the Read the Month - M)...

also reading My Fair Captain for some M/M...not too bad...

and started Beyond Reach (Karin Slaughter) last night...this is like book 6 in the series...i've read book 9 and now book 6, but none of the earlier ones...I should probably do that!

message 312: by Erin (new)

Erin H Finished On the Way to the Wedding (Bridgertons, #8) by Julia Quinn and Julia Quinn has officially become one of my favorite HR authors!! Also read Married to the Viscount (Swanlea Spinsters, #5) by Sabrina Jeffries which was very disappointing and now I'm almost done reading Stolen Kisses by Suzanne Enoch and I can't wait to finish it!!

D.G. | 4477 comments Sandra J wrote: "D.G. wrote: "If you're not a knitter/crocheter, you wouldn't know what blocking a shawl means. "

The thing was that I didn't even got that it was a knitting term. The book deals with magic so for a while I thought it was some sort of spell thing. There were some knitting terms that I figured out so I just thought 'they're just talking knitting' and moved on but the first one bugged the hell out of me.

I finished it though and it was alright but I'm not sure I'll read the next book in the series.

message 317: by Tammy (new)

Tammy Walton Grant (tamgrant) | 194 comments @ Megan: do you ever have trouble keeping the plots of all the books straight?

The reason I ask is that, although I read one book at a time (for the most part), I read an average of 15 per month and sometimes I draw a blank (!!!) when trying to remember specific parts of books I've read recently.

Does that ever happen when you are reading 4 at a time?

If I don't review a book right when I finish it I tend to get lost, lol. I'm so naive about my books, I always think I will remember all the details.

I usually read one at a time and listen to an audio book so I don't get overwhelmed. Usually if I'm reading a historical romance I'll listen to an Urban Fantasy on audio. That way the story don't get intertwined in my head.

message 319: by Tammy (new)

Tammy Walton Grant (tamgrant) | 194 comments I wondered if that was what you did, after looking at the titles you were reading.

My problem right now is that I'm on a historical kick -- I don't seem to have a taste for anything but. Not bad, you'd think, except they are all starting to run together in my head - especially the ones that didn't really stand out.

The plus side is that my head is full of gorgeous, titled aristocrats running around in various stages of undress. Of course, I can't for the life of me remember who most of them are or what book they are from, lol!

message 320: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (bexsi) | 812 comments I have finished Seduced by Moonlight (Meredith Gentry, #3) by Laurell K. Hamilton Seduced by Moonlight it was a little slower paced than the first two but I was glad of that. and Vampires Are Forever (Argeneau, #8) by Lynsay Sands Vampires Are Forever I do love the Argeneau family.
I have started A Stroke of Midnight (Meredith Gentry, #4) by Laurell K. Hamilton A Stroke of Midnight and Blood Ties (Darke Academy, #2) by Gabriella Poole Blood Ties

Also working on Beyond Reach (Grant County, #6) by Karin Slaughter Ransom (Royal Navy, #1) by Lee Rowan and Four Sworn (Lone Star Lovers, #3) by Delilah Devlin , and listening to Pleasure by Eric Jerome Dickey

When I first started reading a lot it was all PNR and UF, and then I discovered my love for HR and quickly became addicted. It was hard to go back to reading PNR after that, lol. There is nothing like an Earl/Duke/Laird huh? ;)

message 323: by Janeiowa (new)

Janeiowa I'm currently enjoying some of the early Linda Howard suspense-mystery romance titles. They're a bit hard to find, but that's part of the fun, I guess.

Tammy Walton Grant (tamgrant) | 194 comments @ Megan: There is nothing like an Earl/Duke/Laird huh? ;) You are SO right -- unless they are a 6'6", black leather and shit-kicker wearing vampire, that is (lol).

@ Melanie: Who needs names?:-p That's kinda what I was thinking!

message 326: by Daffodil (new)

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 1058 comments I was on vacation last week and so didn't get a chance to check in here.

Finished/Read:
Veil of Night A Novel by Linda Howard Kitty Goes to War (Kitty Norville, #8) by Carrie Vaughn One Dance with a Duke (Stud Club, #1) by Tessa Dare The Forest of Hands and Teeth (The Forest of Hands and Teeth, #1) by Carrie Ryan The Blind Side Evolution of a Game by Michael Lewis Tracking the Tempest (Jane True, #2) by Nicole Peeler Midnight Sins (Midnight, #2) by Cynthia Eden Victorious Star (Interstellar Service & Discipline, #1) by Morgan Hawke No Nest for the Wicket (Meg Langslow, #7) by Donna Andrews The First Book of Grimm (Grimm's Circle) by Shiloh Walker Their One and Only by Trista Ann Michaels Viking in Love (Viking I, #8) by Sandra Hill

A few comments:
Reviews for Linda Howard's Veil of Night have been mixed. Most people felt Jaclyn's reaction to being a suspect was irrational. Having similar trust issues for similar reasons, I could relate to her and felt the book was LH's usual great blend of romance, humor and suspense.

I had trouble getting into One Dance with a Duke. Reasons behind the heroes behavior almost came too late and I really didn't like him in the beginning.

The Blind Side was surprisingly good, I even enjoyed the bits about football history.

Victorious Star was stellar. LOL. Sorry, couldn't resist. But it really was a great read.

Viking in Love was a good solid romance. However, the opening was so funny I felt let down that the rest of the book didn't quite fulfill the promise.

message 329: by D.G. (last edited Nov 01, 2010 06:10PM) (new)

D.G. | 4477 comments I already finished a book today Ruthless (The House of Rohan, #1) by Anne Stuart . It was very good. Not as steamy as I thought it was going to be though. :)

Next I'll start: World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War. Now that I read some historical romance, I feel ready for this, which is my Book Club pick. :)

message 330: by Tammy (new)

Tammy Walton Grant (tamgrant) | 194 comments @ D.G. - Are you planning to read the series? If so, Reckless is much steamier than this one. ;)

message 331: by Rebecca (new)

Hamilton Mistral's Kiss and like the last book I was disappointed I have started the next in the series A Lick of Frost (Meredith Gentry, #6) by Laurell K.
