Hey everyone :)

Well I'm seriously thinking about getting me a kindle and I was wondering if there is anyone who has one? I would really love to hear your thoughts on it :)

Ok, I don't know if the kindle is the best choice. Haven't read about the nook. What is the difference between them? :)

I have a Kindle and I love it but I've never tried anything else.

Mainly where you buy material for them. I love my Kindle, which was a gift, but still prefer paper books when I'm at home. If one travels, an e-reader is a great way to bring many books along. I would not have spent the money for it myself because I only read one or two e-books a month.

Before I bought my Kindle I was extremely worried that I wouldn't like it because I too love the feel of an actual book and the look of the beautiful covers. I took the leap and got one and I love it. Its good for travel and all the books are cheaper than the actual print book so I think I have made my money back from purchasing the Kindle. When it's 10:00pm and you finish a book in a series and absolutely have to get your hands on the next book it only takes a minute on the Kindle to download. Your never without a book. You could also save money on shipping when buying on line. Since I bought the Kindle I still buy the occasional book and borrow from the library to get my book fix. No one said that when you buy the Kindle you are no longer aloud to buy any books. Mix it up a bit. Kindle also offers lots of books for free and as cheap as 99cents. I hope this helps.

I've only bought one book for my Kindle, a novella for $1.99. The other thirty some-odd are freebies.

I don't see a price advantage, because I get 80% of my new reads from the public library.

Well, the reason I'm considering it is because I live in Denmark. When I want to read a book I have to buy it online and have it shipped from England (and the shipping is often more expensive than the book, so I have to make a list of all the books I want and buy them together). The libraries in Denmark has a pityfull english section, so that is no use. But with the kindle I wouldn't have to wait for the books to come in the mail, and I would save money on shipping.

But I've read some places that the features are limited if you live in Denmark, and you don't have acces to all the kindle books, but I don't know if that's true.. On their website it says that it works globally, so isn't that what I should assume?

I'd do some more research before committing. I'm not that trusting of their claims.

Julie, I'm looking out to buy an ereader myself. I live in Europe too (Greece) and unfortunately, from what I checked, the books for kindle in amazon's site are actually more expensive than the paperbacks:( I guess it has something to do with the publisher's rights and all, but still, it seems that for europeans (or Grecians at least) the kindle is not a cheap way to buy books. Of course there is the fact that you don't have to pay shipping costs but I solved that by buying my books from www.play.com and www.bookdepository.com that have no shipping charges at all.

I'm still planning to buy an ereader anyway, though not sure if it's gonna be the Kindle or some other, because it IS a way to get a book you absolutely want right away and don't want to wait for, plus there are books, usually out-of-print ones or erotica or from small publishing houses, that are available only in Kindle. And I have found other sites besides Amazon, that do have cheap ebooks. If you buy books from other sites, you can still load them in the Kindle, you just have to get them through a free program named Calibre first. So, do a little research yourself looking the prices of ebooks in Amazon's and other sites if reducing your costs is your main reason for buying one.

I know that since we both live in europe we have to order on Amazon.com and not Amazon.co.uk, and I was wondering if we have to pay 'shipping' or custom tax or whatever it's called ;)

Julie, I took the order until its final stage. In my case (Greece) it will cost and extra 30-35 euros for the shipping expenses. However, at least in my country but I guess it's the same for yours, there will probably be additional taxes for the Kindle when it arrives at the customs office. I know that for Greece, the cost is about 25%-30% of the item's price but no one can tell me for sure. So, you have to add these costs (shipping + customs) to the Kindle's price as well.

I'm not exactly sure what happens when you declare the item as a gift and then Amazon will not send an invoice with the price in the package. Will you pay nothing for customs in that case? Will they guess the price and make an aproximate evaluation of the cost? I have no idea about that. If you go on with the order, please let me know:)

Well I have a friend who live in England, and she has agreed to let me send it to her address. She's coming home for christmas, so she can give it to me there :) Then I don't have to buy it from America. But I still have to buy the books from the American website, do you know if I have to pay taxes and shipping and all that when I buy a kindle book from their website? :)

As far as I know you don't pay any extra taxes for downloading ebooks in your kindle and even if you do it's a very small amount (but I'm almost 100% that the price you see once you're logged in to amazon is the price you pay). You definitely don't have to pay for shipping costs anyway.

I recently bought a nook and I love it. The advantages I think over the kindle are that you don't have to buy all of your books from Amazon, you can get your books elsewhere if you choose. There is expandable storage so if you fill it up you can just buy a little sd card, and you can also lend books out to friends and borrow from friends.
