Is it currently possible to search existing series by name?

On a similar note, I imagine series aliases are not supported? It would be really helpful for translations (e.g. Religions of the world series with the equivalent Religiões do mundo in Portuguese)...

No, sadly, neither of those is available.

Currently, to find a series, you need to find a book in the series and click through to the series.

Alternate names for series (including translations) can be listed in the description field of the series, but they can't be made to show on the book record.

Searching is a planned project, definitely. The question of what to do about series with multiple names has been brought up a few times, but I don't know if there's a plan yet for how to handle it (other than "well, something should probably be done"), so if you have ideas about how it might work you might want to make a suggestion.
