Michelle Gilmore It might be kind of hard, but I thought it might be fun to give aliens and/or alien planets their own thread. Feel free to recommend books, and discuss books that think you'd like to read.

Michelle Gilmore Here's my list that of books that I'd really like to read sooner rather than later:

Enemy Within by Marcella Burnard Touched by an Alien (Katherine "Kitty" Katt, #1) by Gini Koch Song of Scarabaeus by Sara Creasy Too Close to the Sun by Robin T. Popp Netherwood (Shomi Action Romance) by Michele Lang Wanderlust (Sirantha Jax, #2) by Ann Aguirre

Jacqueline J | 154 comments I am fond of aliens being one of the main characters in an SFR. Some I really liked are: Starkissed by Lanette Curington The Spawning (Enslaved, #2) by Kaitlyn O'Connor Genesis (Enslaved, # 1) by Kaitlyn O'Connor Blade Dancer by S.L. Viehl and the Cat Star Chronicals by Cheryl Brooks Slave (Cat Star Chronicles, #1) by Cheryl Brooks . I'm sure there are plenty of others that I can't thing of right now.

I would definitely recommend the Sirantha Jax series, SO good!

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 44 comments I recently read Close Encounters of the Sexy Kind by Karen Kelley. It was a really fun, sexy read. The heroine is from a planet with only females (their males are robots) and her only real info on Earth is from a porno movie and some notes from her grandmother who had visited Earth many years ago. Really funny read.

Michelle Gilmore Great suggestions everybody! My "to buy" list just keeps on growing, and growing, and growing.......

Carolyn F. I just read The Outback Stars by Sandra McDonald this weekend and they visit all sorts of different planets. This has an Australian bent to it too which I like.

What about Lord of the Storm and The Skypirate by Justine Davis?

message 10: by new_user (new)

new_user | 755 comments Oh, I love alien heroes! <3

I read Being with Him from Jessica Inclan not too long ago, and I thought it was an interesting, unique take on the humans-discovering-an-alien-heritage theme, sort of like an adult Roswell, except with more of a serene tone. It's less on the science, more on the otherworldly, and written differently than a lot of romance, more intimate, since much of it takes place with the couple alone. Don't worry, it's not erotic as the cover implies, LOL!

new_user | 755 comments Oh, I almost forgot. Doesn't Gabriel's Ghost count?

message 12: by AnnaM (new)

AnnaM (annamc) | 1111 comments For me the most realistic aliens were in the Stardoc series. I'll keep thinking on the subject.

message 13: by AnnaM (new)

AnnaM (annamc) | 1111 comments I should say, the most realistic nonhumanoid aliens.

message 16: by Hmr28 (new)

Hmr28 | 71 comments Stardoc for sure, Julie Czerneda's books (reap the wild wind, riders of the storm, rift in the sky) as well as her other two series (my favorites were the Esen books) (Beholder's eye, changing vision, hidden in sight) and her species imperative series.

message 21: by Jan (new)

Jan (janoda) | 226 comments I've read a couple of books with aliens, but so far none really stood out as great, except for the Sirantha Jax books.

Perfect Strangers by Barbara J. Hancock Stowaway by Talya Bosco
Alien Overnight by Robin L. Rotham this one is a real guilty pleasure one of mine. It's weird and wacko, and kind of she-hulk, but I still kinda enjoyed it :p

Of the previously mentioned Cat Star Chronicles, I liked the 4th installment best, very emotional and gripping.
Outcast (Cat Star Chronicles, #4) by Cheryl Brooks

message 31: by Celestine (new)

Celestine | 286 comments I really like to read about planets with creative and original natural environments. I would love to hear some recommendations about otherworldly worlds. Here are a few of mine:

Like caguas1947 above, I thought Demon Slave had an interesting winter planet.

I liked the unfurling/unfolding trees (with the accompanying sounds) in Eden.

I recently read a fantasy book that had Earth and a stunningly different dimension (can that be considered sci-fi?): Krymzyn.

message 32: by new_user (last edited Aug 31, 2015 07:31PM) (new)

new_user | 755 comments Oooh, those sound interesting, Celestine! It's so great to see original, really exploratory world-building.

message 33: by Jen (new)

Jen (jenniferl915) | 320 comments Hi Celestine,

I recently read The Trader - Man with No Face and was very impressed with it. Most of the story takes place on an alien planet. It describes in a unique way the planet and the creatures that inhabit the planet. I thought the author did a great job at building an alien world and culture.

message 34: by Celestine (new)

Celestine | 286 comments Thanks, Jen. That book sounds unique....and a little cruel and creepy. It will be interesting to see how the romance wraps around the story.

message 35: by Jen (new)

Jen (jenniferl915) | 320 comments It is a little creepy, but fits into the story well. The plot of the story does not focus on the romance, but on the experiences of the hero and heroine. They cross paths a few times, saving each other and they end up together at the end. The book does not completely resolve, hinting that there will be a sequel. I imagine that the sequel will explore the romance even more. I really enjoyed the story.
