Christy Stewart (christyleighstewart) | 160 comments I've been seeing a few topics on different sites about whether there is any romance novels featuring women who are physically disabled (not deaf, dumb or blind) and the only one I or anyone else can come up with is Catherine Anderson's Phantom Waltz.

Does anyone know of any others?

Cathy (cathygreytfriend) | 53 comments I love Palomino by Danielle Steel. It's probably from the 70s, but the basic story is pretty timeless. Not paranormal, but there are beautiful horses to make up for the lack of magic ;)

Fani *loves angst* (fanip) If you don't specifically mean that the heroine's in a wheelchair but has some kind of physical impairement, you might try these:

Hazard by Jo Beverley: heroine has a club foot
The Perfect Bride by Brenda Joyce: heroine has a limp
Again The Magic by Lisa Kleypas: heroine's legs get scarred in a fire
A Notorious Love by Sabrina Jeffries: heroine has a limp or club foot
Winterbourne by Susan Carroll: heroine has a club foot

In Ember by Bettie Sharpe, the main character (Ember) has a inborn twist of her right foot, walking with a slight limp, and she's also missing her left pinky.

That is really specific!

Yay for the Company of Rogues! Hazard was a neat one. Not sure if it still in print, though...

Mairead | 164 comments Charlaine Harris' Harper Connelly Mysteries.

She was struck by lightning at fifteen, and has a gigantic red spider web mark on her leg, gets weak muscles and can hear dead people.
The lightning affected her life, so she put it to good use.
So much better than Sookie Stackhouse.

Christy Stewart (christyleighstewart) | 160 comments I hated Sookie Stackhouse, but I'll check that one out. Thanks for the tip.

I found a link to a blog that has a great list of them! http://www.likesbooks.com/lessthan.html

Hope that helps!

Sex and the Single Vampire I believe is the correct one of the Dark Ones novels by Katie MacAlister that has a heroine who had had a limp--caused by a stroke, I think. But it could be one of the next two. My daughter has my Katie's so I can't check. :o)

Your exactly right I was just about to suggest that one myself :)

Jessa ♥ EvilDarkSide (metalgirl80) Again the Magic by Lisa Kleypas is one of my all-time favorites! It's such a beautiful love story.

If my memory serves me right, Lily, the heroine in Feehan's Shadow Game has a limp.

message 16: by Amber (new)

Amber | 83 comments I'm currently reading the anthology, The Magical Christmas Cat, and the first story is about a woman who was severely injured as a child, walks with a limp, and sometimes needs a cane to walk.

Dee (austhokie) i think in Pack Challenge, Sara has problems, but when she finds out the truth, a lot of her issues are solved with shifting

You are right about Sara Dee--once her parents Pack show up and succeed in ridding her system of the poison that was in her leg, that at least is healed.

There are other books--altho not many--where the female has physical problems, other than weight/self-image problems. Not having thought about this much, I am now finding myself trying to remember which books I've read have had heroines with physical limitations.

OOHHH--just remembered a biggie--Tanya Huff's Vickie Nelson series Blood Price is book #1. In this series Vickie has RP (a degenerative eye disease that can come with other progressive problems as well.) She is effectively night blind and has a very limited range of sight even during the day.

Excellent series of books, btw, but much more UF than PNR. They did turn some of the books into a TV series on Lifetime. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0808013/ for a link to it. Altho they DID totally screw up Henry's job. (Henry is the vamp in the series.) In the books he writes historical romance novels under the name of Elizabeth Fitzroy. In the TV series they had him drawing graphic novels. I mean, come on, where's the fun in having "a child of the night" drawing graphic novels????

lol, I see I've written a novella here. :o)

Danielle | 1 comments I myself was born with spinabifida.
Because of that I have no feeling below the waist and use a wheelchair to get around. I wish there was a book about a vampire who fell in love with a a girl like me who uses a wheelchair any books like that? when I read my vampire books even though the girls are kick ass and about my age they all have working legs!

message 20: by Nanna -DD- (new)

Nanna -DD- well no not really physical challenged. But Bleeding Violet has a mentally challenged bipolar heroine. Does that count?

Bleeding Violet by Dia Reeves

message 21: by Lynne (new)

Lynne Connolly (lynneconnolly) | 7 comments I've done a hero who used to have muscular dystrophy and was wheelchair bound, who has been converted to a shape-shifter and is now big and strong. His problem is that his internal image of himself no longer fits the reality.
It's called Shifting Heat, and it's not out yet! It was very interesting to write. I've had a rare form of arthritis most of my life, and suffered from varying degrees of disability.

message 22: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) The Outlaw Hearts by Rebecca Brandewyne. The heroine has a scarred and twisted leg and walks with a limp after a horse fell on her.
This is one of my all time favorite historical romances.

I have MD so I'd love to see how you've written it. Let me know when it's released, please?
