Tashfeen (tbhimdi) | 28 comments I've only read the first of the Dirk Gently books (I enjoyed it) and since Sherlock was only 3 episodes (seriously BBC?), I'm hoping this will hold me over:

Kate O'Hanlon (kateohanlon) | 778 comments I loved Stephen Mangan in Green Wing and Free Agents. I think he'll make a great holistic detective.

message 4: by Phil (new)

Phil Lee I forgot to record it last night, thank goodness it's being repeated in HD on Sunday on BBC4.

Well, if you'd just apologize for the unpleasantness of 1776 and submit to Her Highness Queen Elizabeth II and her ministers, you'd get it a lot sooner.

Can I submit to Helen Mirren?

Martin (mafrid) | 50 comments No, no, please tell me it aint so.
I really loved the books, but can,t see how they would make good Tv. Too much of what's good about the books is how Adams wrote them. How do you visualize someone hiding behind a molecule without it being silly?

message 9: by Noel (new)

Noel Baker | 366 comments It was really really good. It made a charming and entertaining show which didn't take it, or the book, too seriously.

Melissa | 50 comments The clip looks good.I loved the Douglas Adams books. My brother-in-law gave me the Sherlock DVDs for Christmas. Only three episodes?!! I have to wait until fall for the resolution to the cliff-hanger?!! REALLY?

message 11: by Skip (new)

Skip | 517 comments Is Sherlock really a cliffhanger? I mean the series is so old it's even out of copyright in the US. The books natch, not the show.

Love Dirk Gently, they really need to offer BBC shows to people outside of the UK faster. It's not like we can't find it if we wanted to watch it. I'd rather get it from the content owner though, as long as it's reasonable.

Melissa | 50 comments It is not IF Sherlock and Watson get out of their unfortunate situation, it is HOW they escape that is the cliffhanger.

Paul Perry (pezski) | 493 comments DG was awesome, i thought Stephen Mangan was pitch perfect; he didn't play Dirk as charming and 'ditzy' as did Harry Enfield in last year's BBC Radio adaptation, but actually dangerously crazy.

Even as a bit of a Holmes purist I loved Sherlock. thought they updated it really well, and Martin Freeman was as good a Watson as I've seen. I really hope the next series is longer than three episodes!

Kate O'Hanlon (kateohanlon) | 778 comments Finally got around to seeing it. I really liked it. It wasn't anything fantastic but it was a well put together hour of television. One thumb up I think.

Paul Kelly (ptekelly) | 206 comments It is shame they didnt make it a series as there was so much missing from it.

Kate O'Hanlon (kateohanlon) | 778 comments Good news, BBC has ordered 3 more episodes

P. Aaron Potter (paaronpotter) | 585 comments I dunno...the BBC did such an incredibly poor job translating Pratchett to the screen, I can't imagine they'll do any better with Adams...

EDIT: I tell a lie. It was SkyONE that butchered Pratchett for TV. It was Shakespeare that the BBC ruined.
