12/19/10 - 12/18/11
1) Jack the Page Ripper (15 books):
Take 5 series, read:
4 from 2nd:
3 from 3rd:
2 from 4th:
1 from the last one (and you don't have to be starting with 1st book each time):
2) Una-book-bomber (5 books):
Read one book from each of the genres. It does not have to be the first book in the series, but it must be a series book, not a stand-alone:
chick-lit
mystery
pnr/urban-fantasy/fantasy/sci-fi
3) Spree Series Killer (1+ book):
4) Author-ican Psycho (1 book)
Try a book from the author you've "given up" on - call it one more try. It can be the same series you previously found only so-so, or a totally different series by the same author. It's up to you.
5) Dr. Hannibal Lecturer (1 book):
Start on that series that everybody is praising so much but you keep postponing it for later.
Just read it already. Go on!
6) The Book Strangler (1+ books):
Read a whole series from the beginning to the end (or to the last published book). You choose whether it's going to be a 15-book-long-monster or a 1-book-long-freshly-started-baby series...
7) 3rd Degree (3 books):
Chesapeake Bay by Nora Roberts
BONUS: Bloody Mary (1 book):
A series with a strong female kick-ass protagonist, something like: police detective, body builder, warrior. So for example LKH Anita Blake would work.

Number of Books: 250
Challenge Description: I constantly have new (to me) books from Paperbackswap or other sources arriving, but am doing a poor job of finishing what is already in my house. My goal for 2011 is that at LEAST 250 books that I read will be those that are physically in my possession prior to 12/31/2010. To that end, I am trying to get them all on my TBR shelves on GR, so that I can see where the end of the tunnel will be! (UPDATE: As of 12/31/2010, I have 425 books physically in my possession on my TBR. There are more ebooks unread that aren't listed, but that's close enough for now!)

*book with a wedding scene
*book where character is planning a wedding
*book with married characters as hero/heroine
*book with engaged characters as hero/heroine
*book with divorced characters as hero/heroine:
This romantic suspense novel is about a divorced Special Forces officer turned bodyguard and his ex-wife, a embassy employee that calls and leaves him a message that something may be wrong. Before Ethan can call her back, she is kidnapped by terrorists and Ethan and Co. ride to the rescue. I really enjoyed the story, but like I prefer my fiction, it felt unreal. :) I loved the way they had to deal with their past to make their future possible.
*BONUS (Optional)
Discussion: Did the story & characters sound realistic? Could you relate to any of the characters or certain things that happened in the story? If so, can you share an example?
Duration: October 15, 2010 to October 15, 2011

January 1 - January 31, 2011
Difficult - Read 8+ books.
8/8 Done
- Read an equal number of books from Old/Favorite authors and New/Never before read authors.
New:
Favorite:
- Read one or more books which celebrate the New Year.
- Read one or more books that have been on your TBR (To Be Read) list for a long time.

» All genres welcome
» Runs the entire year
» Must be self-published titles or small indie press
Here are the challenge goals for the year:
1-12 books - Bronze
13-24 books - Silver
25-36 books - Gold
37+ books - Platinum!
Don't know where to find Indie authors? Smashwords is a great place to start and provides many different file formats to download. Amazon and B&N stores also has self-pubbed authors now. These ebooks are often priced quite low. You can even find quite a few that are free. Many of these books are also available in paperback. Not sure if you want to take a chance on an unknown author? No problem because you can download a sample first for free to see if you like their writing style.
I hope some people will join me this year. I found some great reads and some new favorite authors last year. Give it a shot and maybe you will find some new great reads too!

Amanda:
You have sooooo many books and are so well organized. I just joined in December and my lists are still somewhat a mess. I hope I did this right and picked some good options for you.
A: Something new:
1: New author: Keri Arthur. I read the Riley Jensen series. Keri Arthur writes in the paranormal romance/urban fantasy genre. I haven't read them all yet but love them so far. Different.
2: New series: Nalini Singh - Nalini Singh's Guild Hunters I chose as your new series since this was on your tbr list. This series was quite different from her Psy/changeling series. The archangels are so sexy.
3: New genre:
B: Better You
1: Lose weight: I went with the longest book on your TBR that I'd enjoyed - This book and the entire series are my favorite books of all time and the books I measure all others to :Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. It took me a couple of chapters to actually get into the book but then I was totally and completely hooked.
2: Save money:
3: Get organised::This is a series you started and is one I am currently reading (listening to) Lara Adrian Lara Adrian's Midnight Breed series is one well worth continuing.
Enjoy Life More:
1: Fun 1:Perfect For The Beach - a fun easy read
2: Fun 2:Heart of the Matter - another nice book

Members are welcome to add more than 1 series to each category, if they wish, but only 1 is needed to complete the challenge. Members may also choose to complete 1, 3 or all 5 categories. I firmly stated that I would NOT join another A-Z challenge this year after some of the difficulties finding a female character starting with "U" and such. However, I could not resist! There are lovely challenges for authors, books, male and female characters, shifters...
Then, inspired by Steph's ABC Series game right here on SOS, I realized what my self-challenge for 2011 would be. Yep, another A-Z challenge of SERIES! Please feel free to join me reading through the alphabet and enjoying many series!
How To:
Read one book of a series beginning with each letter of the alphabet using the first letter of the series name (can ignore a, an, the). The series do not have to be PNR/UF, but should have some element of paranormal in them.
*Re-reads and any format are allowed.
*Anthologies are not allowed.
*Duration: January 1 to December 31, 2011

7 pts.
BASICS: The challenge-- read books that either
* are written by someone with one of the names on the list (first, middle, or last, doesn't matter)
* have one or more main characters with a name from the list.
Additional coolness: you can knock out more than one name at a time! For example, Vince Flynn writes books where his main character is named Mitch. Both Vince and Mitch are on the list, so that would be a twofer!
TIME FRAME: Hurricane season begins June 1 and ends Nov 30, which is six months, so you can either do it actually during hurricane season or make it the same length as hurricane season and do the six-month period of your choice. January 23 - July 22, 2011
POINTS: Give yourself one point for every name you knock out, keep your log/ points here, and see how you stack up!
