Wan (wanwaddell) | 252 comments I have not really toss the book across the room. But I have the ones that I dropped with a thud because of the @#$%!@# cliff-hangers.
An Echo in the Bone (Outlander, #7) by Diana Gabaldon & Dreamfever (Fever, #4) by Karen Marie Moning

The one that I couldn't get rid of fast enough.
Hush, Hush (Hush, Hush, #1) by Becca Fitzpatrick

I agree with the cliffhangers of the fever series, though I supose it's goodin a way......

Zee Monodee (zee_monodee) | 688 comments I'll read it prolly in January. Hope I'll like the book... :)

message 59: by ~Jennifer~ (new)

~Jennifer~ (book_addiction) Dreamfever, KMM. Barrons better not be even remotely injured much less dead. Sooo can't wait for Shadowfever.

message 60: by Gemma (new)

Gemma (bookmoodreviews) | 241 comments See I still maintain that it's not baron, but her birth mother or father.

And I can see why the fever books would be tossed across the room.

Wan (wanwaddell) | 252 comments I've just experience the book I want to toss across the room Envy (Luxe, #3) by Anna Godbersen .

I was starting to read the last of the series about 15 pages in Splendor (Luxe, #4) by Anna Godbersen but have to stop. I couldn't endure. However, 6 mos down the road I will have to pick it back up because it's one of my many reading challenges.

I have read 3 books so far -- have to say that it could have been consolidated into one easily & there are people who seems to like the series -- just not me. I do like the covers though.

I haven't been to excited to start that series, Wan. Thanks for the warning.

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) I've only thrown one book, it was by Bertrice Smalls.
I can't remember the title but the heroine runs away from home and stows aboard a pirate ship, where she is immediately raped by the captain (the hero) for the rest of the voyage. Somehow she meets with a cousin of his later who she wants to have a relationship with. They are travelling together somewhere when the "hero" shows up and rapes her. Then the cousin rapes her because he has a thing for whores (his words). Then later the H/h meets up again and they are travelling in a group (to Canada or something). This is where their relationship really starts to emotionally develop. The group is captured by Native Americans - and the only way for the heroine to become a member of the tribe (so she isn't sold as a slave) is to be raped by a member of the tribe. Guess what? The hero is a tribe member! She is raped again (in public, again). Somehow, after all of this, they get their HEA.
I got a satisfying “thunk” as the book hit the wall.

I would have liked to have thrown Swords & Dark Magic: The New Sword and Sorcery because of one of the stories was atrocious and had an over-abundance of descriptive language. Lady D, I posted that paragraph before…a total stinker. I would have tossed that one but it’s an ebook on my Kobo.

I think that was the book I read that made me say "oh hell no" to that author. When I would go to the library I stayed clear of any books with her name on it.

MrsJosesph that first book by Bertrice Smalls would have made me mad too. I don't like reading about rape, so I wouldn't have read past the first rape scene. That book sounds horrible.

message 66: by La La (new)

La La | 132 comments Depending on how its written, rape in a book doesn't bother me. There was a historical novel that I loved, I can remember if it was by Jude Deveraux or Kathleen Wooodwiss that had a scene. But continous rape and by the hero and others. That was a turn off. I didn't see the romance in that. I just felt like that was all that books was. There was just no redeeming qualities to the novel

MrsJoseph, I have Swords & Dark Magic. I will get back to you when I get to that story. :)

It was horrible. The only reason I read it was The Kadin was a favorite. I'd read a couple of other Beatrice Small books that weren't that bad (she does seem to enjoy a good rape, however). This one put the cap on my Beatrice Small experience. :( Never picked up another book by her.

I always stayed clear of Bertrice Small's books, but unfortunately tried to read one of Rosemary Rogers'. Gee! That one (Wicked loving lies) made a spectacular flight across my bedroom to crash against the wall. I was like, what the hell kind of crap is that? I don't mind sex, I don't mind violence as long as it makes sense... and I couldn't find any there.

message 77: by Wan (new)

Wan (wanwaddell) | 252 comments Hmmm...should have read this thread about Bertrice Small. Just picked up the Lara (World of Hetar #1) by Bertrice Small and A Distant Tomorrow (World of Hetar #2) by Bertrice Small . Luckily, they are 50 cents a piece. I hope I don't have to toss them.

lol!

Speaking of tossing a book against the wall - Johanna Lindsey's Heart of a Warrior made me CRAZY! Ugg! I hated the heroine, hated her. No one is that dumb, no one. Heart of a Warrior was a library book so I couldn't toss it.

The most tossable book by Johanna Lindsey for me was Glorious Angel. I hate that book!

message 84: by Zee (new)

Zee Monodee (zee_monodee) | 688 comments Reminds me of one I tossed (on the bed, not across the room though). Tongue In Chic (Fortune Hunter, #2) by Christina Dodd Couldn't get within half of that story, felt like the author was taking me for a complete idiot!

Gemma (bookmoodreviews) | 241 comments I do remember tossing an Anita Blake book across the room, but which one escapes me. Therapy has helped heal me of the last few.

message 86: by ~Jennifer~ (new)

~Jennifer~ (book_addiction) I've tossed a couple Anita Blakes...the series started off good but then devolved into massive orgies and kinda lost it's way. I'm hoping she brings it back around to where Anita can go more than half a paragraph vertical.

message 87: by Danielle The Book Huntress , Loves 'Em Lethal (new)

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 9851 comments Mod
LOL. I have given up on Anita Blake. I will read books 7-9 and I'm done.

message 88: by Gemma (new)

Gemma (bookmoodreviews) | 241 comments yeah 7-9 is about right. I think not long after that it kind of went tits up, so to speak! lol!

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) I refused to read Glorious Angel. Apparently I made a wise decision. :)

Speaking of Anita Blake - there was an article/blog post on Dear Author about a comment made about Anita Blake in a PC Cast Awakening House book. (not familiar)

http://dearauthor.com/wordpress/2011/...

message 90: by ~Jennifer~ (new)

~Jennifer~ (book_addiction) I read part of Awakened. She did blast Anita and made some remarks about Laurell in it. I stopped reading that book shortly after. I think it's pretty sad she had to resort to blasting someone else's work in her book. If that's all she has to say to further her story then she needs a new job.

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) I agree. I don't like for authors to comment on other authors inside of books. I feel that the characters should not be aware of each other unless they are in the same "universe" - in which case the two would need to collaborate.

message 92: by Arch (new)

Arch | 4246 comments Mod
An author had her character know another author's character and she blasted the other author?

That's low! I wouldn't want to read her book either.

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) Arch wrote: "An author had her character know another author's character and she blasted the other author?

Somewhat. The author of the Awakening had her characters comment on Anita Blake and the characters/books that LKH writes.

“whos anita blake?“ stevie rae askes “vampire killer chick written by a human chick who has a Totally Tragic fashion sense“

Note: All misspellings in the quotation are not mine :)

Wow MrsJoseph! She was wrong for that.

I'm a writer and I wouldn't dream of bashing another writer.

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) Arch wrote: "Wow MrsJoseph! She was wrong for that.

I agree. Some people feel it is ok because LKH is now considered a part of pop culture (and the PC Cast series drops names like rain), but I don't agree its ok to this extent. None of my other Urban Fantasy books bring up pop culture in this way. Honestly, I feel the writers are going to regret this later. They have just seriously dated their books.

MrsJoseph, I thought the hero in this book was a real a-hole. I posted a review if you're curious.
