Christian Hi my name is Christian, I just joined the group and feel already there are a lot of people out there being as crazy about books and reading in general as I am.
I'm a German living in US for the last few years, one of my first discoveries in this country was the Barnes & Nobles stores. If they would allow me to put a bed in there I would live there.
Since this year I also own a Nook, giving me the opportunity also to read material written in my native language, it was a good investment but will never replace the feel of real paper for me.

Bianca (silverbutterfly) | 3 comments Hi, I'm Bianca. (this really seems like one of those meetings... xD) I'm almost 20 and Italian, and I'm so addicted to novels that I taught myself english till I could read in it. I'm not as good as I should be and my pronunciation is the stuff of legends (in a REALLY bad way), but who cares: I can read! xD
All my problems started with IBS, an internet bookshop: small taxes, a lot of books, a lot of sales. AND the fact that the nearest bookshop was small, far and so friggin' slow in ordering books you got old before you got your novel.

Bianca, that is amazing. I love books too.

Tiziana Hi everyone. My name is Tiziana and I'm addicted to buying books. I had to laugh out loud when I found out there are so many of us book addicts out there. It's a nice feeling to know that I'm in good company.

Johanness (cookiesandcute) | 23 comments Oooh! An Introductory page!
Johanness, here! Born in Philippines, we (parents and I) moved to Australia and now here I am, buying books when I can, as much as I can =)
Fiction, Fantasy, Young Adult and History Fiction are some of my FAVOURITES! <3
Pleasure to be meeting you all, :)

message 8: by Neko (new)

Neko Just joined tonight :) Seems like a fitting place to post on GR as I seem to have an addiction to buying books/comics/graphic novels/etc..hahaha.

I'm trying to limit my spending on books as I've now gotten more than I can read...Not the quickest reader at times but then on the other hand I can speed through my reading material.

I'm from Australia :D

Tracey (stewartry) @ Christian - "If they would allow me to put a bed in there I would live there."

Heh - I worked at B&N years ago - dangerous, verrrry dangerous, but kind of wonderful in that I got to explore all the books - and I was a little worried when they put in couches: people did settle in for the day, and often fall asleep. Between the comfy furniture and the cafe, you almost could live there ...

message 10: by Lee (last edited Mar 08, 2011 07:15PM) (new)

Lee | 5 comments Hello...I'm Lee. I LOVE buying books. I usually keep my buying limited to the second hand stores or garage sales. If I really want a book that I don't have the patience to wait and hunt for, then I will go online or to B&N. I usually buy at least 3 books a week, but it definitely can skyrocket from there if I visit the bigger town over.

message 11: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenskyye) | 5 comments Hello, I'm Lauren and I just joined the group today! I am a college student, soon to be culinary arts sudent, living in California. I LOVE LOVE LOVE buying my books. In highschool I would average 3-4 new books a week, and always hard covers. Now that I'm a broke as a joke college kid, I only buy 2 books a week, almost always with a coupon, and almost always mass market paperbacks. But sometimes I like to splurge for a hardcover.

message 12: by Noortje (new)

Noortje de Graaff (lordkiwii) | 5 comments Hi I'm Noortje and I think this group is amazing xD I had no idea there were so many book shoppers out there :P I LOVE reading and LOVE buying books as well. If I read a book I actually want to own it ... and hold it so e-books are not for me.
I hope to have fun here and meet great and crazy people like me ^^

Lori (charm72) | 11 comments Hi I am Lori, I love books, I love reading them and I love buying them. I don't care for e books either. I love Barnes and Noble and Half Price Books. I always keep my books I usually read some of them more than once. I need new bookshelves:)

message 15: by Nessa (new)

Nessa Hi! I'm Nessa and I am a Book Buying Addict (sorry, couldn't help it, lol).
Ever since I discovered online buying (Chapters is my fav place to buy...free shipping over $25 always gets me into trouble, lol) and Ebooks, my collection has not stopped growing. My E-reader is always full...with plenty saved on my PC and SD cards...to constantly move the books around. I am a bit OCD in the way that I NEED to buy full series' once I find one that I like, and will usually try to get most other books by that author. I love building a collection. Sometimes I don't even get a chance to read them until months, even years, later. But I have absolutely NO self control when it comes to buying my books. Maybe I need help (hubby seems to think so anyway, lol) but I love it too much and rarely feel guilty...especially when it's a good deal.

I feel much better getting that off my chest, lol.

message 16: by M (new)

M | 6 comments Hi, my name is Melania. Like all of you, I, too am an addict. There's very little I don't read, and in the past few months I've joined three book clubs to revel in my addiction. I've been trying to limit my purchases to used books as of late, and am trying to be more selective even in those as my bookshelves can't keep up with my collecting. I have books in almost every room in the house, meticulously cataloged by author, genre, etc; and a near replica of the Tower of Pisa recreated in my bedroom of my currently reading/reading next pile. I too, can easily live in bookstores and libraries, and in fact have worked in three libraries "just for fun"!

message 17: by BookAddict (new)

BookAddict (bookaddictgirrl) | 1 comments Hello my name is Cheryl and I'm not an addict I'm a junkie. I'm such a junkie that libraries are really wasted on me and I had to buy a Kindle for the everyday fiction type reading because I have no more room in my house to build more bookcases. I inherited the gene from both my mother and my father's side of the family so I was doomed from the start. Unfortunately my addiction isn't restricted to a certain genre and I still buy the occasional older/garage sale book bargain and have acquired a new addiction for cookbooks and travel books. So many books and not enough time to read them all.

message 18: by Laurel (new)

Laurel Rogers (laurel6) This is the first group I've joined here on Goodreads, and I just had to giggle when reading some of the comments here! I'm Laurel and have always been a book hoarder. It shows! My living room is chock full of titles, and my hubby promised to build some bookshelves for me, but he has yet to do so. Arggh!
So my books are 2, 3 deep and it drives me to distraction when I can't find certain titles.
I'm certainly enjoying Goodreads, thanks for having me!

message 19: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa My name is Vanessa and I'm a bookaholic. Most of the time I buy my books from AbeBooks online but when I go to a physical store it's always Half Price Books or another used book store. I have nothing against new books but there is something enduring to me about a worn out paperback with some old cover art. I buy older edition paperbacks for all of my favorite books. And yes, I am addicted to buying books and usually go to AbeBooks or Bookfinder for harder to find books I want to read and HPB for browsing and stuff I know I can probably find there. I've got way too many ebooks saved to my hard drive (don't own an ereader yet!). At first I thought I would never buy me an ereader, thinking it was blasphemy! But then I realized that ebooks are the wave of the future, it's a much cheaper way of getting a hold of the latest releases and the ones I really like I can buy a physical copy of later, and as a home business owner who is on the computer all day anyway they are a convenient way of sneaking in some reading. Yes, I buy books the way other women buy clothes!

message 20: by Lacie (new)

Lacie O'Bryant | 31 comments Hello everyone!! My name is Lacie, and I'm a book addict! I'm 26 years old and I'm currently a stay at home mom to two wonderful children, (Akari, who will be 4 this year, and Tobias, who is 3 months fresh out of the oven), and I moonlight as an Interior Designer when the economy isn't left in the pooper.

Since it's been difficult for me to find a job after I got laid off, and I've witnessed deteriorating health in several members of my family, some of my new years rezzies have been to change my eating habits, exercise more (I'm getting an elliptical!!), and to read the snot out of my Amazon wish list!

Currently I enjoy sneaking books that I purchase at the store from my husband, for reasons unknown...I just enjoy doing it? I love to online book shop and forget about them (I order a lot of books WAY before they are released) and when they come in the mail, it's like SURPRISE YOUR MAILBOX LUVZ YOU!! And I have made many complaints to the City about not having a legit bookstore. We have a woman who owns a secondhand store and buys books from amazon, and pretty much her entire collection consists of the two YA books that are popular at the moment, about three hundred copies of each Twilight book, and an ass ton of Dean Koontz and Nora Roberts. Oh and she's never open.

I first became a book addict at the tender age of ten, or maybe eleven? Anyway, once upon a time we had a book fair and I discovered the Animorphs Series by K. A. Applegate, and I was hooked. I read the entire series as I grew up, with the exception of like, the last four books. I think in the back of my head I don't want the series to end because it's been with me for so long. I still have all of the books boxed up in my attic, and I re-read them all when I had my daughter almost four years ago, and again could not finish them. From that series, I then discovered Anita Blake by Laurell K Hamilton, and was hooked on the sci-fi, urban fantasy, paranormal romance, vampire, werewolf, tasty goodness that is fantasy novels. I then shed the Laurell K Hamilton novels after Obsidian Butterfly because her books kind of turned into crap and I got really disappointed. Now I'm getting into more of the post-apocalyptic stories, and fictional books like Where The Heart Is, The Millenium Trilogy, and Push. I also enjoy stalking my favorite authors online; Kelly Gay, Rachel Vincent, Richelle Mead, Jenna Black, Jeanne C. Stein, and Dakota Cassidy.

Some day I would love to write a book or a series of books, but I just don't have the knack for it. But I can design your kitchen or bathroom like nobody's business!

Charles D Hartik (chalex) | 2 comments Hi, I'm Charles D Hartik. I've been reading and collecting books since I was a child. I recently authored a science fiction novel, Strander, as a result of my concern over the cascade of worse case scenarios within Earth's ecosystem.

message 22: by Paulapsn (new)

Paulapsn | 1 comments Good evening all, my name is Paula and yes, I purchased a book or two in my time. But, I can quit anytime I want.

My home serves as the foundation for all the shelves which hold over three thousand hardcover books - paperbacks are stacked in the closets. I love to read books. I love to own books. I love to touch and smell books. One of my favorite activities is to quietly sit while sipping a cup of coffee and stare at the room length shelves neatly stacked (and in systematic order!) with my books. I own most every book I've read and I've read most every book I own. And yet, despite this I still can function like "other" people in society. So there!

message 23: by Jocelin (new)

Jocelin | 151 comments Hello everyone, I joined the group a couple of days ago. I am so very glad that there is a group on the Goodreads site that is for people like me. I love read, buying and discovering new books. Currently I have about 50 books that I have not read and I went to the store closing sale @ Borders and just bought another 6 books. I hope that this group will be able to embrace me since I do have this problem. Looking forward to posting great comments in the group. Have a great week (reading). ;)

message 24: by [deleted user] (last edited Mar 19, 2011 09:09PM) (new)

Hello. My name is Shay and I am a book addict. It's been about 8 hours since I bought a book.
I am an avid reader and I buy books faster than I can read them. I buy books and then realize I already have them (I have been getting better with that). I am out of shelves and have started storing some out of the way.
Today I went to a big library book sale and got 22 books for 12 bucks. Then I went to a smaller library and bought five books from their used book section.
I have a Kindle and a Nook. That's bad isn't it? I don't have more than 50 books on each though. I have only had them a few months. I am sure there will be more on them soon.
My husband is a reader too and my enabler. It's nice to know that I am not alone.

message 25: by Abi (new)

Abi (abi_b) Hi I'm Abi and I just can't stop buying books.
Being a student, this is a real difficulty as there is very limited shelf-space in my student house - I have had to resort to storing books in large piles wherever there is space, not to mention passing books onto my parents whenever I see them so that they can put them in my bedroom at home. Despite this lack of space, my book-buying doesn't seem to have slowed down at all, and I have dreams of one way having a library in my own home. It is good to know that I am not alone.

message 26: by Rebeca (new)

Rebeca (bvel28) | 1 comments Hi, everyone! I LOVEEEE collecting books. I go to bookstores all the time and buy, buy, buy. I don't even have enough time to read all the books I buy. It's a never-ending cycle. I want to read everything. I wish there was more time in a day. Anyway, my books are like my babies. When I look at my growing library, it makes me so happy. I'm so happy there's others like me!
