Rowena (rowenacherry) | 86 comments I'm not exactly tech savvy, and this may be a dead widget problem, but I cannot figure out how to remove from my profile page this code

//var filePath = "http://imagen01.247realmedia.com/Real... var TFSMFlash_PRETAG = ""; var TFSMFlash_POSTTAG = ""; var TFSMFlash_VERSION = "8"; var TFSMFlash_WMODE = "opaque"; var TFSMFlash_OASCLICK = "http://network.realmedia.com/RealMedi...-

What is it, please? And what can I do about it?

Rowena (rowenacherry) | 86 comments Now, it's

new function() { this.rand = Math.floor((Math.random() + "") * 1000000000000); this.dvparams = 'ctx=657803&cmp=907320&plc=298801296&sid=298801296'; this.tagsrc = 'n'+'ipt language="Javascr'+'ipt" type="text/javascr'+'ipt">\ndocument.write(\'\');\n'+'ipt>'+'ipt>'+'ipt>'; this.altsrc = ''http://network.realmedia.com/2/wfalfy... this.callbackName = '__dvredirect_callback_' + this.rand; var thisRedirect = this; window[this.callbackName] = function () { return thisRedirect; }; var src = 'http://rtbcdn.doubleverify.com/bsredi...' + this.call

Justin South (justinsouth) | 8 comments Hi Rowena
You can google Realmedia - I believe RM is a parasite organisation that has infected your computer to suck information about your internet user behaviour for their advertising client's purposes.
You may notice your broadband usage increase as a result of their interference, at your cost. You may also notice your computer speed drop significantly.
As for removing it, my suggestions are - try every delete solution you have, download Adblockplus and add realmeadia to the block filter or read their propaganda to find an unsubscribe button. If that doesn't work, contact and threaten them.

Rowena (rowenacherry) | 86 comments Really, Justin? Is that why I see it on my GoodReads author profile page? In that case, I owe everyone an apology if it is something that only I can see.

Thank you for the advice!

Patrick Brown | 276 comments This is a broken ad code that's been driving us nuts for months. I will have the developers take another look at it, but it's been intermittent and I don't think the problem is entirely on our end. I'll keep you posted.

Rowena (rowenacherry) | 86 comments Thank you, Patrick. Today, I see that rotating GoodReads-serving advertisements are back, so I am satisfied that the issue is not my responsibility.

Thanks again to Justin. I did have a RealMedia cookie on my browser, which I have now blocked.... I think!
