Cindyn | 3 comments This was a short story about a tree, perhaps a giant oak or redwood, and the story about it's life. One chapter was a forest fire that scarred his trunk, then the final chapter was a man saving him from being cut down. The only character in this story is the tree itself. I remember first reading it in about grade 5 or 6 in one of the school readers. Any help would be very appreciated.

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) | 1396 comments I'm almost sure I know this book but I just checked the "tree" books on my shelves and I don't think I see it, but it sure sounds familiar. Hope somebody knows!

Cindyn | 3 comments It was in a school reader, and one of the other short stories was Farley Mowat's Owls in the Family..that much I remember..but for the life of me, that title of the one about the tree simply eludes me.

LauraW (lauralynnwalsh) | 370 comments OK, this is probably not right, but is it Shel Silverstein's The Giving Tree?

message 5: by Cindyn (new)

Cindyn | 3 comments no thats not it. This would be about a grade 6 level reading.

This Is Not The Michael You're Looking For Hans Christian Anderson has a story about the life of a tree, but the plot is very different than what you describe.

Lorna | 213 comments I remember it too. Unfortunately, I don't remember the title either!

Cindyn hasn't been active on GR since her last posting (#5) in this thread. Sent a PM, no idea if we will get a response or not. If no reply soon, the next Mod should move this down to Abandoned.

You can bump it, but we can't move a thread to Solved unless we hear back from the OP.
