Series or No Series

Some lessons are indeed better told in short novels. There are some instances where a simply written 150-page book can leave one with a fresh, satisfied feeling. Take Tuesdays With Morrie as an example. Also, some series go on for far too long, and the story gets too random. Sometimes it depends.
All in all, series seems to have a longer lasting impact on the reader.

There are some standalones (like Thirteen Reasons Why) that are powerful because that's all there is, and it's perfection in a single novel. And there are some series (like Warm Bodies), where you're like, "WTF, that was a perfect standalone, why is there another one?"
So it's a toss up. But don't make a series just because you want to sell more books or think it'll give you a bigger fanbase. That rarely works. >>
(Oh, Above is a paranormal standalone!)

And sometimes I prefer when the author knows how many books they will write in a series, because if they don't, sometimes it seems to get repetitive, though occasionally, it can be great.
I agree with you Lu, I can't bear the wait until the next book in a series comes out.

Although……… most of my books are also part of a series as well…
