I think exactly the same.

Lexi (lexiihope) | 13 comments Series all the way!! There is so much more story, more depth, more complexity in a series. I fimd myself emotionally attached to a good, or even mediocre, series. So much more can be explored.

Some lessons are indeed better told in short novels. There are some instances where a simply written 150-page book can leave one with a fresh, satisfied feeling. Take Tuesdays With Morrie as an example. Also, some series go on for far too long, and the story gets too random. Sometimes it depends.

All in all, series seems to have a longer lasting impact on the reader.

Thalia (thaliaanderson) I'd like to see more standalones, actually--paranormal ones, that is. The OP is right--there are hardly any paranormal standalones (I can only think of The Replacement), and there are very rarely realistic YA books that are in a series!

There are some standalones (like Thirteen Reasons Why) that are powerful because that's all there is, and it's perfection in a single novel. And there are some series (like Warm Bodies), where you're like, "WTF, that was a perfect standalone, why is there another one?"

So it's a toss up. But don't make a series just because you want to sell more books or think it'll give you a bigger fanbase. That rarely works. >>

(Oh, Above is a paranormal standalone!)

Ronald | 16 comments Series are the ****. But I would like to see more stand-alones here and there. Too many people are caught up in making a trilogy, and they don't even have the first book planned out yet. It's so funny.

Haley | 11 comments Series for sure. Gives more to the story, get to keep the characters with you longer, can develop a stronger connection to the story. Stories never really start where the book begins, nor dose it end at the back of the book. You know... unless everyone dies. Then it kinda ends.

Chelsea (chelc13) | 2 comments Series, because you get to see the character develope more than in a standalone novel (not saying that characters in a standalone novel are "blah", but you only see a segment of who they are, whereas in a series you can see them more fully. Or at least that's what I believe.

And sometimes I prefer when the author knows how many books they will write in a series, because if they don't, sometimes it seems to get repetitive, though occasionally, it can be great.

I agree with you Lu, I can't bear the wait until the next book in a series comes out.

Morgan Reeves (moreeves218) | 14 comments I absolutely love series! I get attached to the characters in one book and I just want to see them develop and their world grow, even if it is set in a world like ours. If it's not a series, then it has to be a long book, I just don't think I'll enjoy it as much if its short and sweet. I need depth!

Eeverythingsmagic | 10 comments Series! The more books the merrier!!!

message 60: by Mindy (new)

Mindy Diamond Paranormal needs to be series because it's a whole new world, so it has to be given a chance to exist a while...

message 61: by BlackTea (new)

BlackTea | 16 comments It's so sad, when you already know that "this will be the final book" I'd rather live with the tiny hope that the author MIGHT write another book :)

message 62: by Kira (new)

Kira Simion | 8 comments I do like series but not ones that end on a cliffhanger (if they end abruptly). Also I prefer trilogies more than series that have more books most of the time. Don't know the exact but i think it's because trilogies are more action packed in less pages so it's a nicer pace to read. :)

message 63: by Jordan (new)

Jordan (thewritejordan) | 14 comments It depends on the length of the series -sometimes I feel like they can be too long so I tend to prefer trilogies unless I hardcore love the world and/or the characters.

message 64: by idiffer (new)

idiffer Mmm, as a general rule for me if a series is longer than three books then it's garbage. There have been exceptions: Harry Potter (book 7 was still shit), Dauntless (only the first six books are truly good). But even if a series is good, I tire of the characters and setting very quickly, and the books of even a trilogy are read inbetween other books.

Milla (active on week days) | 6 comments Sometimes I enjoy just reading a stand-alone book because I don’t have to wait to read the whole series, I’m just finished with it

Although……… most of my books are also part of a series as well…

message 66: by Leila (new)

Leila | 1 comments Series for sure, bc I get so attached to the characters in good books!!
